_dV - well i didnt use those pink+yellow sping set up as my Flux Baja 5b will be between 6kg -7kg heavy, so i will not use them.
But maybe good for heavy loaded trucks..

Well the thing is...DB are made to transfer the power. Well i didnt see no cups that can take bigger "DB ball ends" so there would be no point for manufaturer to make those bigger or thicker...but thicker DB in a longer truck like 5b is always welcomed in my :eyes: .

I am thinking to put 1520 or 1717 in this thing... any advice?

I think red is a bit too stiff. I'm running yellow right now, with 50weight oil, and may go back to white.

Would probably be better off with a red spring and the plastic tube that comes with the stock shocks then that double spring?

I really don't think the setup you are using will work. The point of the dual springs is to have a dual-rate spring setup without needing dual rate springs which means that HPI could use existing stock without needing to create new (the big bore shocks are using the old Hellfire springs, which are truggy length springs) springs. The smaller spring is much heavier than even the red spring and is meant to help absorb the really large impacts. Unless you running short tires, or tires with flexible sidewalls, a 5B/5T/5SC conversion more than likely will never bottom out; not enough travel in the suspension! So _dv's suggestion of replacing the short spring with the spacer probably isn't a bad idea.

As a point of reference, fully loaded mine weighs 16.4lbs. Thats with a 5mm TCS TVP, the tranny, bulletproof diffs, flux motor mount, torq motor, 5S 5000mah batteries in a custom battery box, Mamba Monster, Spektrum receiver and HiTec servo both mounted in the plastic Savage servo/raido box without the lid, and lastly running 24mm Baja 5B/T/SC hubs on XL axles with ProLine 5B Badland front/rear tires on Proline 5B Desperado wheels.

Thicker != better. Not sure that a new dogbone was needed for the rear, probably should just have used the standard XL rear dogbone as that would have provided the space for bigger motors. Thicker just means more rotating mass. The longer dogbone does probably need to be a bit thicker to avoid flexing as I understand it; but then again not a mechanical engineer so can't say for certain.

Oh and there are larger cups, 11mm vs 8mm, for the XL suspension dogbones, but none that I know for the gearbox or the diff pinions.

I have been running a "HPI Torq", i.e. rebranded 1515 as it fits in the standard Flux motor mount, but am switching to the 1520 in mine as I switch to a center diff setup. In either case you need a different motor mount or you need to grind out the Flux mount to accept the larger diameter motors; only like ~1 mm with the 1520, like 5mm with the 1518.

toplakd 12.03.2010 10:20 AM

Hi.

The rear dogbone is standard XL rear dogone regarding lenght.

thzero 12.03.2010 10:32 AM

Then no need for a custom one really :)

But as i tested those pink+yellow was much harder than with short springs.
Than again could even use 2x red spring..anyway...well i need to test the shocks on Baja first and than will see how and what.

So Thzero - ur 5b is like 8kg with 24mm hex and baja wheels, that is not bad at all!

Must also say, there is space for bigger motors...can use 1520 or 1717 in this kit as hole is big so motors up to 100mm can fit also 1717 diameter is not an issue here!

About the cups, that is what i ment...no bigger cups for center dogbones that mach gearbox and diff pinions..well i didnt make the kit, but i like the FAT dogbones!

At the moment i got 2200kv CC combo, motor mount was grinded, works perfect ! Will order than that 1520 sucker. I also got 5S and 6S lipos will test them both. Hope V3 will not go Puff-puff ...no pass! ;)
Well i like 1717 becaus eof its size, also everything in the motor is bigger, will take less heat and so on...but i dont like RPM max.

Oh, and here how i marked and grinded motor clamps..pic already been posted in another thread but anyway...

14lbs is pretty good. Think the 1520 will move it ok?

thzero 01.05.2011 03:28 PM

Yes. The 2200kv motor I have in my 5T/5B moves it quite well, about 40mph or so. And mine ready to go (baja 5b tires) weighs in at 16.4 on 5S and about 17 on 6S. Moving to the 1520 though with the center diff conversion.

Knez 01.09.2011 02:52 PM

yes 1520 should be ok, i need esc that can handle 6S as my MMM V3 just keeps burning up on 6S...a bit later i intend to go with center diffs or GCM trany.

Knez 02.15.2011 01:33 PM

A teaser :) lol, tires are form FG MT, thsoe suckers weight like + 650g.
Will not use them, but culdnt help my self to put them next to a F5b.

Alza Baja kit is a lot better than tcs kit, more settings and options also a lot better weight distribution and easy to maintain as servo plate is not as big as HPI box so makes things easier, at least aproach to the steering kit.

Well there is like 158mm or maybe 159mm room.
i personally use HK 5000mAh 3S 40C/50C lipos so ther eis a space for a "foam" so lipos get protected a bit...

Do u mean my signature or the link that i provided or that Desertboy XL signature in the picture or all this ?

And here a pic, that slipped...

Knez

actually he is a copy cat. he just copyed my product, bashcatrc bulkhead braces, he just made some tweaks to the design. one piece was even a direct copy, but i got him to change the design enough so that it would not be mistaken as mine.

it really sucks to have worked hard on coming up with solutions for problems that the original design has, and having some guy with a cnc machine ripping your design off.

just wanted to let you know what this guy is all about.
