Ok guys, need some help now. Found out the hard way you have to install the included stub shafts in the diffs in order to use the Traxxas CVD's. The cups/stubs that came installed in the diffs are too short. So after assembling and disassembling the first one I was putting the second one together right the first time and have run into a problem. On one of these stub shafts that is included with the kit the holes were not drilled in the center of the shaft. This means I can't insert the pin through it and then get the gear that goes on the end of the shaft to seat down on the pin. Also, I can't get a drive cup on the other end of the shaft and get the pin screw to go through it to secure the cup to the shaft. Does anyone know what stub shafts these are? I believe the diffs are Hot Bodies and I have found the shaft with the cup made into it on the bay for sale, but I can't find just the stub shaft. Any help is much appreciated guys. Thanks |
Thay are Carster Racing diff and the stub shaft you can get at Mike"s shop under RCM parts hope this helps you???

I have LST diffs in my Revo and used Traxxas Stub Axles with the threads cut off.
http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXHFY7&P=7 I think you can take the stub axle out of the driveshafts that you remove from the truck. Test fit that to make sure it fits, then cut the threads off with a dremel (I had to cut just a bit more than the threads so the end of the shaft would sit flush with the spider gear). This picture should help: http://s177.beta.photobucket.com/use...f78b3.jpg.html |
Thanks for the help and PM's guys. I contacted FLM and they said they will have 2 new ones in the mail tomorrow. I'm still going to make one at work tomorrow in stainless or just steel and harden it. These have to be done and RTR Christmas morning and I don't really have faith that the USPS will have it here by then, so better to be safe than sorry.
The second issue I had was with the alignment pin hole in front bulks of the second truck. It was .003 too small and the alignment pin wouldn't slide in. So I took them to work today and put them on the mill and reamed them to the correct size and the pins fit perfect now. |
WOW FLM has some quality issues going on apparently.
Good thing you have a machine shop to make the parts. -Travis |
Well I don't want to say anything bad about FLM as these Bulks are the only thing that I have ever had an issue with out off the products I have bought from them. Plus they have been very helpful in getting the issue resolved that I told them about. Everyone makes mistakes, it's what you do after the mistake that defines you, not the fact that you made a mistake.

Nice work man :great:

Thanks Wheelman,
Got both trucks finished up Friday night and delivered on Saturday. I ended up using the output shaft I made because the replacement from FLM still hasn't arrived. In the future I will keep using my proven parts with the GA bulks and UE diffs, they have never given me any troubles and don't require any mill or lathe time. Im sure it won't be long and both trucks will be on lipos as soon as the kids get used to the NiMH speed. http://i48.tinypic.com/28tjgae.jpg http://i49.tinypic.com/deo7x4.jpg http://i46.tinypic.com/axxliw.jpg http://i49.tinypic.com/5xssow.jpg |
Looks Good man! Im a Machinist too, but i never really get to make anything for myself :(

How are these trucks holding up? The kids must be loving them. Have they switched over to lipo's yet?
Nice job, Nick |

I was wondering this as well. They must be having a blast! So how many shock caps have blown off!? -Travis |
Thanks guys, the trucks have been holding up well so far on NiMH. Only issue has been drive cup set screws coming loose. A generous amount of loctite has fixed the issue on both trucks so far. Lipos haven't been ordered yet, but better chargers that will also do lipos have been ordered. I'm sure lipos aren't too far of. So far no shock cap issues yet, very surprising.
