My wife had a gti vr6 10 years ago. Fun car, but the damn thing broke all the time and all the local mechanics couldn't ever fix it right. Seems like everything was done backwards fromthe rest of the industry. Plus the parts were insanely expensive. I know its not the same experience all over the world, buts its hard to justify the premium for VW in the US when the domestics are so good (and cheap.)

My Golf R was just under AUD $60k which is USD $61750 +/-. In the US it's probably $35-40k new?

Ouch... idk what the golf r is new, but that figure would be priced right out of the market. I would think 25-35(Max) would be right. Too tough of competition inthe $20-30k range

Designed by wackos on crack and assembled by monkeys with robotic hands. Parts either snap together (and break during removal) or are assembled in such a manner that require proprietory tools and large does of lsd. Overly complex (all german cars are this way) with no real benefit. I hate working on them, MBs and BMWs too.

Did an engine swap on an 99 Audi A4. Had me scratching my head at all of the house routings. Used 150hp B5 engine was $1100, and that seemed to be the average price when looking at Car-part.com. I get the water/oil cooled K03 Turbo. What I dont' get is just WHY they routed the coolant flows the way they did, so MANY T-fittings in there. And some of the harness plugs use the SAME connector both color/shape. :neutral:

Between that and experience on fixing my Moms Cabriolet shoving my fingers into an operating turbo would be less painful.
