Thanks for the info! Glad it's working well for you now and that you reported about UBEC/link issue, hadn't heard of that before. Wondering whether the root cause of the issue is that the ESC does not have its own power switch? If so, then the issue might apply in general to other ESCs of which the power switch has been removed (quite common for users to do with mamba max pros and mamba monsters) or where the switch is left in the ON position.
Very nice driving with the Porsche, what's the weight and no-load wheel-speed you have it geared for and how much Power are you putting though on average in those ~7 min? Can imagine the ESC needs to work quite hard there :). EDIT: Just confirmed that hooking up a Q-base ESC (rebranded Mamba Max Pro) with removed powerswitch (i.e., always in ON position) to the Castle Link, does indeed result in 3.9V Voltage on the power leads. So would any load be connected to the leads (fans, BECs, etc.), Current would flow. I think that's something to be aware of :). |
If you read the product page of the Castle Talon HV 120 ESC you will notice this at the end of the page: "*** Remove BEC Power wire from receiver before connecting to Castle Link"
Not sure how to interpret this the right way: - first i thought ... oh castle might see an issue related to the XL2 sending power through the battery wires when it is connected to castle link and this could lead to esc failures. - on the other hand: in order to connect the ESC to castle link you would have to unplug the "cable" anyway from the receiver and plug it to castle link (maybe it works differently with the talon HV esc, since having to unplug the esc from the receiver each time you want to retrieve data from the esc is not very practical. A design change would make sense ... as for example a second wire only for retrieving data which you could route outside of the receiver box for quick connecting ... idealy a bluetooth/wifi connection to a smart phone would be the next step). - or: if you remove the "red" wire from the plug (leading to the receiver) the esc won't power up when connected to castle link (at least the xl2 needs the red wire in order to be powered from castle link ... which is also a source of error if you don't use the internal BEC of the esc (as i do with the xl2)). So ... i got a little confused. Regarding the porsche: geared for 95km/h. Not wheighed yet. i suppose something between 10 to 11Kg. Start up clogging
Like the title says, I get really bad initial clogging. No matter how easy I get into the throttle, start up clogging horrible. Once I get it going, the issue goes away, but getting to that point has me pulling my hair out. I have checked the mesh, but did notice the start-up power was set to low. Making a few changes to the ESC settings giving it a go again tomorrow.
