To clarify everything. 2 3s packs, maybe around 4000 mah, wire in series. One LVC, one balancer? Anything else i need to know?
Okay so here is my final run down:
Quark Monster Pro 125B (no need for seperate LVC right?) Hyperion LBA6 Balancer Hyperion EOS7i Charger MaxAmps Lipoly 4000mah 3S 11.1V packs w/Hyperion taps |
TheOne: what truck are you putting this in?
Aluminum G2R runninng 17mm Hpi rims and tires with full stock suspension and what not since I'm blowin all that money on a Lipo set up.
Sounds like a good setup, however, you will have to charge those packs in parallel to charge them both at the same time. You can charge them as a 3S2P at 7.5 amps (the max for that charger I believe). It would take around an hour and 15 minutes I would guess since that would be slightly less than 1C.
Okay, that sounds good seeing that I might get six of those packs when all is said and done. Just for the sake of asking is there a better charger and balancer for them?
The new MRC 989 is slightly better and would allow you to charge them in series at 4 amps or however you see fit. As for balancers....thats a pretty good balancer already. There are however, modifications you can do to charge/balance at the same time, in line, at a higher amperage since it heats up charging at higher amperages.
What type of runtime would I get outta this set up? I want 30 mins and good speed to keep up with truggies. If there is a better combo that would fit me, what would it be?
On 6S at 4000mah, it would be rather close. I would recommend at least 6000mah if you need to run 30 minute mains.
OK. I just want to make sure I do this right the first time through so I don't waste money.
One last thing(hopefully). If I wire the two 3s packs in series to give me a 6s pack, how would I charge them if they can only be charged together in parallel? Do I need to make a second harness and have extra wires? If so, will the unused connectors cause probs while charging?
Another thing I'm not quite grasping is what gives these BLs that long runtime, voltage or capacity? Cause I'm bout to buy a setup that puts out 22.2 V when in series but only has 4000mah capacity. Would I be making the right move in getting some MaxAmps 6000mah or 8000mah 2S2P 7.4V packs to make 30 min of runtime, but only making 14.8 V? Will the voltage loss effect my performance (mainly speed) a WHOLE lot or will it be barely noticed? I still have gearing to consider also. I am trying to get every Q I have out of the way. Thanks for the help. A thousand times thank you. |
In a gmaxx, would it be better to run a higher mah than 4000? In series 3s2p? I'll repeat my other question as well here: "To clarify everything. 2 3s packs, maybe around 4000 mah, wire in series. One LVC, one balancer? Anything else i need to know?" I would like run time, and speed as well with my gmaxx. I'm running 40 series all the way around. I'm starting to wonder if I should go to something bigger in Lipo than 3s2p, or maybe just get some packs that have a higher mah....thanks squee for all the help!

If id go for lipo, id get atleast 6000mah since your already spending alot of money. You will need one balancer, as for the lvc if it can handle the specific voltage than you should be fine with one.
TheOne-Maybe a compromise? 5S lipo at 6000mah? Thats a great setup and will get you over 30 minutes runtime. Your partly right as well, the voltage loss will affect it, but its not something to worry about that much. When selecting a motor, choose one thats gonna run around 35,000rpms at the voltage your gonna run.
newuser-Same thing....5S LiPo would be plenty IMO for the 10XL. What kinda runtimes you need? 4000mah would get you close to 30 minutes if not right at it. I would personally go for at least 6000mah. And yes, only one LVC and balacer. |
OK. so here is what I'm thinking from all the help. 3s2p, one 3s for each side of my truck. I'm not sure how i would do 5s? Anyway, the lvc (one), and a balancer. To do 5s and understand how that would work in series, i would need a pic. So also thinking, 5s 6000 mah....is that with two packs together? or 6000 mah per pack? I don't think my MRC 977 would handle that much.
If i run 4000 mah, i'm assuming that's combined mah? if so, i would want more i think. And 30 min is fine. I get that with my 16 3800's. |
