Do this motor really have to have a rear brace? I was planning on running mine without one, but maybe that is a bad plan? On another motor I had, I used a piece of 1/2" plastic with a saddle cut to fit under the motor. Then it was mounted to the chassis.

It probably doesn't have to have a brace, but this motor is big and heavy. I'm worried about the g-maxx motor mount bending/flexing over jumps.
Actually, now that I looked up the data sheet on the Feigao XL, its not any heavier than the XL that I have been running and its actually shorter.?.? I guess the increased diameter just makes it appear much larger. Maybee I'll give it a try with just a block under the back to support it on landings and see how that goes. |
Glassdoctor made a rear brace for his Neu motor. It's pretty cool, but you'll have to wait for him to chime in...

OK. Got the 1515 installed... I think I'm gonna try running without a rear brace for a while and see what happens. It looks like it should be OK and there is just no damn room to put anything under the motor at this point. The rear suspension is literally right under the motor. Only a few mm clearance between the bottom of the motor and the springs. These revos sure don't have much room. You pretty much just have to pack it in there and make it work.
Side note... I just went from a 9XL to the 1515-2.5d. Just got in one 2 minute run in the dark to test the setup and reprogram the radio and ESC etc.... Can I say..... :dft008: Holly CR@P!!:010: In just a little short run I can tell a huge difference. Way more torque then the 9XL. And the 4 pole is unbelievably smooth at low speeds. Not even a hint of a cog. Can't wait to get in some runtime on it this weekend.:027: |
You will be blown away by the runtime I think....
As for the rear brace thing, I will get some pics of mine tonight or tomorrow for any interested. Basicly what I did was used some 1/4" thick plastic to make some plugs that fit tight into the holes in the endbell. The plugs are bolted to a brace or rear motor mount. So it's almost like having a brace bolted the rear of the motor as far as vertical movement. It's just that it's not really "attatched" to the motor like normal... the brace it just attatched to the plugs which are shoved into the motor holes. It actually is working very well. I have these on both the truggy and my buggy that has the motor up in the air over the center diff. If this is clear as mud... wait for pics. :D |

Not much. 2 plate's of 5 mm 7075, hmm I guess somewhere around 30-40 $ pending on design and excluding shipping from holland to anywhere. You still have to drill and tap the hole's yourself.

The diameter is 7mm, and the endplate is 1mm thick. If you are going to make some plastic plugs, I'd be interested in buying some from you. I don't need them for a motor brace, but I just want to keep dirt out of the motor. Otherwise, I'll just use electrical tape to cover the holes up. I don't think I need a brace, because I got a 1512, so it's shorter.
