Yes, Korea... At least thats what the box mine came in says.

They do have an office in California somewhere for support though.

Yeah, and according to their site, horizon hobby is their exclusive US distributor.

untill a month ago you couldn't even get one there. Now they are exclusive...? You cant even get a decent motor to go with the controller from them. Why are they even bothering with the controller if they don't sell a motor to go with it. All they carry in the way of brushless motors is a bunch of airplane stuff, 1/18th and then the usual sensored stuff.

What would be a good gearing to start with, with a 7xl on 14 cells? Would having 4S2P allow you to gear higher or not so much?

with the 7xl, you shold not need to gear up high at all. If it were a 9xl, then yes, you may want to gear it up some.
