Since you're taking lots of stuff off anyway, I'd take everything apart and clean all the bearings and joints and replace as necessary.
If you want the end result to be "pretty", you could de-anodize the chassis (use Easy Off oven cleaner - don't get any on your skin though), make any alterations and then have it re-anodized any color you want. |
okay, i have all the other stuff off. and yes sean i had all this done last night, just couldnt post it cause my internet was messed up.
http://img140.imageshack.us/img140/2834/p2140507yi2.jpg i think ima hack up the box with the brake servo in it for the mount. now once i order the motor and such then ima go to home depot and get some metal to make mounts. i put new springs in the rear, and have to do so in the front. |
Does the brake servo go in the same spot as the throttle servo went? I've got a Tekno RC throttle servo mount, which replaces the box for the throttle servo with a smaller piece of plastic. Let me know if you would be interested in taking it off my hands.

I think 4S/ 8XL is a great way to go. I would make the suggestion to relook at the LIPO option, it does not have to be expensive, for example TrueRC has a very nice 2S2P 8000 mah pack for $75, so for a 4S it would be $150. If you compare the mAh/$ they are very comparable to NIMH cell, if not better. For example: Ib4200s from Maxamps.com cost $10/cell. To get the equiv capacity and (almost as much) performance of the 4s 8000 lipo pack, you would need 28 cells ( 2x 14cell packs), => $280. W/ lipos you will need a few accesories like balancers and a good lipo capable charger, but once you have them you are set.
the best is that you do not get (big) voltage drops under high loads, so the truck is punchier and has more power than the nominal voltage (14.8v) seems to suggest. On my packs I easily get 30 min of runtime, but in practice 45-1hr as I'm doing lots of different things (not just WOT everywhere.) Its really nice to just drive the truck for a long time and have the same level of power nearly start to finish. Lastly, I'm not so keen on the Home Depot alu option for the mount. That grade alu tends to be quite weak and bends easily, not somethign you want in a motor mount. You are best of getting strong 6061 alu either locally or online. |
i actually have had more trouble with FM radios and UBECs than with AM. My AM radios have been really reliable w/ the ubecs and many BL setups, but my JR FM Rxs glitch like crazy when paired with a ubec. I switched to the RX pack and its been fine. I know this is counter convention, but its been true w/ my particular equipment (2 diff escs, 2 rxs and 2 ubecs.) the ubecs are nice, but hold onto the rx pack just in case. If its just bashing, the weight is not that big a deal, (and would be easily made up for by the lipos  )
So why did I switch to the FMs then? Having servo trav adj and brake adjs are really nice. |
well im not buying brand new cells and making the packs, i konw lipo's are good, but i cant afford lipo, i would rather just get 2 6 or 7 cell 3800mah packs off ebay or a rc forum.

G/L anyway, just be careful buying used batteries. Mke sure what you are getting is good. The most common mistake in staring off in electrics is wasting money trying to go cheap on batts. They may seem cheap upfront, but they don't deliver good performance and die sooner had you got quality batts to begin with. Not saying it can't be done, just make doubl sure what you are getting is not someone else's junk or cheapie lo qual batts you'll be replacing in a year.
Anyway, lol @ your name, when I first read it I thought it said "CanadianRacist... Wow...at least he's honest I guess..." :P |
yeah, lol. people think that too sometimes :P O.o
but i know about the batts (that happened to my friend on ebay) but i got some of my money from my other rc's, so i might be ordering some stuff soon :P |

|
got all my stuff on saturday from mike, and got some metal to day, working on the mount and the battery tray right now. and ima probally make a tray for the reciever and ubec and esc.
