Is the only difference between the Feigao 540C XL motors and the XL motors that they have a built in heatsink and the removeable bell end ?

neweuser 04.04.2007 09:36 AM

Yes, they are pretty much the same motor. One with an integrated heatsink, and one with smooth can. The other difference is that the Feigo has a screwed on end bell I believe. Other than that, the guts are pretty much the same.

Thanks neweuser. My wishlist now contains the following

Warrior 9920 Brushless Car Controller
Feigao 540C XL Brushless Motors- 8XL
External BEC/UBEC
Strobe Slipper Kit w/Bearings
Nylon 51 tooth spur gear - Ofna
pinion size - mod1 -5mm: - 16 tooth carbon steel
pinion size - mod1 -5mm: - 18 tooth
Hardened steel idler gear-Emaxx transmission

I'm going to email Mike about a 15 tooth pinion and also the locker for second gear.

One other question i had was about running times. What will the difference be for the following combinations? 8XL with 14 - 16 cells and 7XL with 12 - 14

Otherwise hows it looking ?

I think thats it but before i do, hows it look ?

It looks good. I would personally get the smooth can Feigo xl with the RC monster Heat Sink though.

any reason why the smooth can is a better motor ?

GorillaMaxx360 04.04.2007 07:51 PM

quick question for you guys is an 18/51 gearing to much for my maxx?
(setup includes quark 125b with rc monster heatsink no fans, 40 series tire, a123 (2) 2s 4600 lipo packs, 7xl w rc monster heatsink, and buggy diffs)

One question more for you brian. In you speed calc it says more balloning equals more speed. so if i am using strapping tape i put .5 inches of balloning, it i put .00 inches of balloning my top speed goes down a whole 6 mph does this sound right. does balloning really dramatically effect the speed this way.

While the 540C XL motors hace a screwed on end bell the case is still pretty thin and there have been anumber of members here who have popped the front end bell off of the 540C XL motors. (me included)

With the smooth can the Rc-Monster heat sink takes alot of the stress and its solid aluminum so it can take it. In the end the smooth can with the heatsink/clamp is tougher than the 540C.

You did mention wanting to do some jumping and other stuff so I'd second that recomendation of the smooth can with the heatsink. A couple extra bucks for the heatsink, but in the end it will be more durable for you.

The 540c cans are a bit wider, because of the fins. Some people have had to dremel a couple of the fins off so it dosen't hit the side of the transmission, limiting gearing combos and I think it won't reach the standard motor plate holes without the dremeling.

ozdave 04.17.2007 06:31 AM

ok guys so Mike is having some problems getting the smooth cans so I think i am just going to go with the finned motor.

I have read a few posts recently about people toasting the warrior esc's quite easily and them being difficult to program. Is this something i should be concerned about ?

jollyjumper 04.17.2007 06:57 AM

he wont stock the bk wanderer anymore but the feigao 8xl shouldnt be a problem.

ozdave 04.17.2007 06:58 AM

yeah but he doesnt know when he will be getting any smooth cans in unfortunately :(

jollyjumper 04.17.2007 07:00 AM

haha, go crazy and get a neu 1515 1700kv:004: or 2200kv:026:

neweuser 04.17.2007 09:14 AM

For the esc, I would get the quark. If you can, get a Neu, they run flawlessly.

ozdave 04.17.2007 09:45 AM

125b or would the 80b be sufficient?
