I would say a small cut would tear sooner than a hole? i know most of the buggy guys make little holes in the tire instead of the rimm.

I think you'll find that a pin hole isn't big enough. The rubber tries to seal itself off. A half inch slit work's best for me. I just uses scissors to cut the small slit, and I've never had any trouble with them tearing.

I'm going to do this on my next set of tires (don't want to do it on current G2R set because they aren't belted). However, I'm going to heat up a needle until its a good temperature, then use it to puncture holes in the tire. The hot temp should partially melt the tire and help keep the hole strong (no tearing).

You need a hole bigger than that. Most people use a leather punch or cut a small 1/4 inch or less slit on oppisite sides of the tire.
