Anyone got any input on making this a single speed so that I can use engine braking instead of manual?

ok sorry here, but kd is a wiener compared to mike!

send him the truck, say i want this this and this like that and he designs it, machines it and test fits everything, just MUCH better!

I've never owned a Hacker, but if that's the way you want to go, you could save yourself some money and go with a Feigao. If you are determined to spend the money, go with a Neu motor. The Quarks do very well with the Neus.

The 7XL is about a 2200kv motor. On 6S it will self destruct. Besides, the Quark won't do 6S very well. Stay with 5S. If you are going to run 5S, I'd go for an 8XL in a Feigao, or either the 1515 2.5D for a fast setup and will run cool, or a 1515 1Y for some insanity.

The 8XL on 5S in my Muggy is just sick.

If your truck has got the heavy duty 2nd speed you can modify it so it is stuck in 2nd. All you need to do is dremel two slots in the hardened ring and put two setscrews thru the 2nd speed engage thingy.

How did all this turn out for you 2FastSS4U? I'm thinking about doing this myself...

I ended up sending the Savage off to Mike and having him make a custom brushless savage that has now spawned the conversions that he now sells on this and FLM's website.

Wow very cool... congrats on that! Is it worth the extra $$$ and work to go with the flm over the KD? like 180 compared to like 70?

I have the kershaw design on my savage xl. It allows me to move my lipo battery inside the frame. I didnt like the look of the bateries hangin on the out side. The motor is up in the air, truck still handles great. If you have an XL buy just teh motor mount, and then move your lipo inside the frame. Didnt cost me much at all.
