That's what I thought! And I did try to do the "right thing" to resolve the issue, but if the company doesn't want to respond, I'm not going to chase them down!

AAngel 06.04.2007 09:44 AM

Something like that would never happen to me. You made a good faith effort to bring it to their attention. Your conscience should be clear. LOL

Hmm even the prices are not bad (kinda sucks getting stuff made in czech Rep. cheaper from us :) )

coolhandcountry 06.04.2007 04:14 PM

They pushed the 160 down one notch.
The big boy 224amp model has the top big dog spot.
Still handle 18cells and 6s lipo. That is impressive.

Serum 06.04.2007 04:22 PM

Sounds like a candidate for 6S flightpower 5000 cells on a Neu 1515 with a 2200 kv.. make it hot..

How bizarre. I was trying to find the MGM website last night using google (didnt know the web address or if they even had a site). As luck would have it I found the site easily enough and wet myself when I saw the new line up of controllers- the 160 amp & 18 cells jobby is just the ticket for me! I would only be running 14 cells max of course, so no chance of frying it unless I dropped it in the fishtank. I like the programming card idea, and the option of using the receiver lead or this new ICS lead thing looks great too for connecting it to a pc/laptop for programming. The prices are good too- £135 ish for the 160-18 model, very reasonable, plus you can pick & choose upgrades like heatsinks etc.

On a side note, I wonder if you could somehow transfer the programming software onto a PDA type device for programming the esc?....

AAngel- let us know if MGM are willing to give you an upgraded model in return/part exchange, and how it performs. Im getting all excited like a school boy.

AAngel 06.04.2007 06:40 PM

I just heard from MGM and they said that there is nothing wrong with my controller. They also said that it would cost half the price of a new controller to upgrade mine. I almost went for it, but then I wouldn't have any guarantee that the controller would work for me, since they said that nothing is wrong with my controller in the first place and I couldn't get it to work properly. I just told them to send it back to me as it is.

Either I'm just an idiot, or there is some sort of incompatibility with my radio or something. I'll try it again when it gets back, but I have a feeling that it's going to wind up in the trash. I waited for over a month just to be told that there is nothing wrong with the controller. The lag time in support is enough to make me hesitant about buying another MGM product.

The specs on the new stuff look good though. I just can't keep throwing money at this stuff. I'm going to sit it out until either the Tekin or Castle controller is released.

suicideneil 06.04.2007 06:46 PM

Thats rather odd. Just what exactly wouldnt work when you first got the MGM controller- symptoms/ motor & radio used with?

waterdog49 06.04.2007 06:52 PM

pop tart

i'm a fast electric r/c boater with a new interest in electric monster trucks...

have any of you folks ever tried a Schulze 40-160 esc in your 1/8th scale buggie/truggie brushless applications?

Where are you guys finding the prices for these new controllers? Even on MGM's e-shop I could only find the prices in Euros and they were not nice with the exchange rate.

lxmuff 06.04.2007 09:10 PM

I hope the same happens for me too.

I'm hoping that they just threw mine in a pile of "to be fixed" units and boxed up a new one for me. I'm not that lucky though.

AAngel 06.04.2007 09:53 PM

lxmuff, see my post above.

The problem that I had with my compro was that it would not freewheel. I programmed it several times and the freewheeling wouldn't stick. I am running a Spektrum radio. I would have tried a different radio, except that all I own are Spektrums. Besides, if it doesn't work with Spektrum, I don't want it. I have too much money tied up in Spektrum equipment to move on to something else, as long as the Spektrum stuff is serving its purpose for me.

bdebde 06.04.2007 10:51 PM

AAngel, before you throw that MGM in the trash... throw it in the mail to ME!

and if the Lehner doesn't work out for me, i too will likely run 1/10th scale until MMM

AAngel 06.05.2007 01:13 AM

Hey, if that Lehner doesn't work out for you, shoot me a PM. I have a buggy that I was trying to sell that never moved, so I might have to put it back into service. With a 1930 in it, I'd stick with the MM. It's a super controller for 2 pole motors. Perhaps would could work something out.

Serum 06.05.2007 01:40 AM

@ neil; where did you find the price of that controller?
