Ok what motor do you want to run? A 8-9-10 l leigao would be fine in a pede. I have a 12s which is 3000kv or so and run 15/54 gearing in it on 3s lipo. No problems at all, tems are acceptable, and run time is around 40-45mins bashing on a 4000mah 3s lipo. My truck is mostly stock, so it is light, a heavier truck would be ok since you would be using a l motor. I would say use a 3000 kv motor, 8l, and 14-16/58 gearing, on 3s lipo and it will be a hoot.

well, guessing that you will use the emaxx tranny and diffs and a stock sized tire. That gearing would give you about 32-34 mph in 2nd gear. I gear all my stuff for 40 so an 18 tooth would be my starting size and test from there. I have a felling that the 1515 1y would not get hot with a 18, but you could start with the 15 to be on the safe side and gear up during testing.

The general conscensus(sp?) is that the neu motors work with the mm if the gearing is lower and the mm is setup a specific way. It would be nice if someone could post their esc setting and then the rest of us idiots could copy it! IIRC the start power had to be at the highest setting and the punch control disabled. This got the motor spinning from stop and I think the timing worked better set low. Not sure if anyone adjusted the throttle curve or not. Working with my sh***y memory is not easy, but I would love to try a neu motor.

On the pinion front, would it not be cheaper to bore out a 1/8" 32p pinion to 5mm on a lathe? Granted it would be expensive to get a pro to do it, but if you could find a friend with a lathe it wouldnt cost anything really except a $3 pinion & 5 minutes work. Only catch is they arent hardened, but you could do 5 pinions for the cost of one 'proper' one that way....

i thought about that today, my dad has a drill press at work all you need is a 5mm bit and a really straight hole i tried it today but my hole was too big so it spun wobbly.

Yeah, I thought about using a drill press too but you have to have the pinion centered perfectly and a really precise drill bit. A lathe with a 3 jaw chuck would hold the pinion exactly right, and then you just feed in the drill bit slowly with plently of lube (oo-err). There is an engineering shop in my town that sells all the attachments & cutting tools for all kinds of machinery, and they also sell drill bits which are accurate to within .001mm, so you could use a 4.9mm drill bit so get a nice tight fit when you put the pinion on the motor. Might be a nice idea for someone to try if they have a lathe, even a small one.

I thought about doing this but the hub off all the gears I found would not have much material left when bored out to 5mm. Did not look like there would be much left for the set screw to thread through. |
well a 66 or 68T spur gear with a 14T pinion will put you in the same ratio ballpark.
