It depends on how many cells you want to run as to whether the 2400xl or 2800xl is better. As for speed controls, the 2400xl can easily be run with the 7020 (I run a 2000XL on a 7020, and it doesn't even get warm after very hard running on a hot day). The 2800XL could be run on the 7020, but I would personally want (for 50$ more) the assurance of the 9920. |
I am going to run between 12 to 14 cells
The 2800XL would be just at home on 12-14 cells. As for which controller, you could run the 7020 but you would be pushing it. Personally I would reccomend the 9920. Maybe someone who has run this system could give you a better answer...:)

So the XL2800 with the 9920 is the best choice out of all the motors correct and how fast would you say it would go
I don't really know exactly as I don't run this system. I would guess high 30's on 12 cells, and upto mid 40's on 14 cells. It could be geared over 50mph for speed runs, but you wouldn't want to run continuously on this gearing.
my xl3100 does mid to high 40s easy with 12 2400 sanyos with a 14/66 gearing with is pretty low. my motor and esc donr even come close to running hot. about 140*ish....lets put it this way i can put my finger on the motor fro 2-3 seconds easy. i would say get the xl 3100 and if its to fast just turn the thottle down on your radio. like i said, the xl3100 throws my 8 1/2 lbs. truck around like a ragdoll. not to mention im getting about 12 minutes runtime with OLD (4 years to be exact) 2400 cells not even charging 2400.

maxxdude1234 and squeeforever thank you so much for the help and what esc do you use squeeforever
could the XL 3100 handle 14 cells?
thats no prob.
I believe Mike said the 3100XL can handle 14cells, but it will run very hot. With 14 cells you will have absolutely stupid amounts of power (50mph shouldn't be too hard...) Personally I would go for the 2800XL if you plan on running 14cells. |
Because I got 3 sets of gp 3600 on 14 cells and 3 sets of 3300 on 14 cells and 2 sets of gp3600 on 12 cells
personally i dont think the xl3100 would run hot on 14 cells with the right gearing and possible a fan if neccesary. i use a warrior 9920. the xl3100 can handle 14 cells the only question is can your truck.
What gearing would you recommend and where could I get a fan from
i have 14/66 on 12 cells with stock size rims and tires. on 14 either a 13 or 14, not really sure. you can get a fan from your local hobby shop or even from ebay. some people bet them from computer stores but i dont think it would have a z connector or a universal.
So the 9920 could handle the XL 3100 with out a problem correct on 12 cells and 14 cells right
The 9920 should comfortably handle the 3100XL and 14cells. I don't run the 3100XL, so squee has better knowledge of the motor than me. If he's run the motor on 14cells with success then fair enough, you should be able to do so to. All I'm saying is the 2800XL will run cooler than thr 3100XL on 14cells....just my opinion...:)
