Now, THAT's funny! I was thinking about the same scene as I was shooting!

Nice, I've been looking at getting this Gamo instead, it'd be pretty sweet to have the combination of a shotgun and .22 air rifle in one.

suicideneil 11.16.2007 05:56 PM

Interesting rifle that one you found dabid- there have been a couple similar in the UK; one could fire 3bbs at once (but that was about it), and the other had a large diameter barrel that used special waxx wads to hold a variety of lead shot in the barrel. Nothing amazing really, but it beats getting a shotgun license....

coolhandcountry 11.16.2007 06:28 PM

What is a shotgun license?

ib4200 11.16.2007 06:53 PM

i think he means a shotgun hunting license

I don't think thats what he means. If I'm not mistaken, we've had a discussion about it before and in the UK, you have to have a license just to own a gun.

ib4200 11.16.2007 07:59 PM

oooh

coolhandcountry 11.16.2007 10:25 PM

That would suck if had to have one per gun a person owned.
I remember talking to some mates over seas. There laws alot different then ours.

dabid 11.17.2007 03:56 AM

Yeah, even in super legal California it isn't that bad, I've only been to the shooting range once though.....sure was fun!

I really want to get that Viper Express, but honestly have better stuff to waste money on.......like $300 in upgrades for my TLT crawler, yay!

nativepaul 11.17.2007 12:42 PM

yeah you need a licence to buy a shotgun over here and that license will stipulate a maximum amount of ammo that you are allowed to own at any one time, also semi auto shotguns are illegal and pump guns over here have short bottom tubes as a shotgun is only allowed a 3 shot capacity, the requirements for a shotgun liscence are not stringent tho, you just need no criminal record and the police to say your not the local unconvicted troublemaker, if you have a genuine use for a shotgun, ie your a farmer not someone that wants to hunt or shoot clays you can even get one with a criminal record as long as there is no violent offences on it.

Firearms licences (rifles and pistols) are a lot more stringent, you need to have a clean record and local police consent, to have been an active member of a nationally recognised shooting club for at least two years, be signed off by at least 2 members of that club including a regesterd committee member and have a charachter referance from at least 2 "persons of high standing" eg doctor, policeman, magistrate that have known you for at least ten years.
that will get you a single shot eg martini or bolt action full bore rifle, max 5 round magazine or .22 rimfire semi auto max 10 round magazine if you can demonstrate good reason like your a farmer or gamekeeper.

That $%*&ing *"$£^& Tony Blair banned all cartridge pistols a while back tho through a loophole you can still get muzzle loading blackpowder cap and ball pistols, my dad has one a reproduction colt and very surprisingly it's pretty much as accurate as as my 357 was.

suicideneil 11.17.2007 12:49 PM

UK firearms laws are tighter than.... rude joke. To get an FAC (firearms cert.) you have to be a member of a rifle range for 2-3 years, and get loads of references before the police will even consider letting you purchase a gun.

Pistols/ revolvers are banned outright- the UK olympic team have to train in switzerland I believe because you cant own handgun in the UK, no exceptions.

Shotgun licenses are easier to get though, since you just need to have a clean criminal record, and a few references & metal gun cabinet, though if you live in a rural area that would probably help- no-one in a city really needs to have a double barrelled shotgun normally....

Air rifles are limited to 12 ft/lbs of power, and pistols 6, before you need to have a full license again, but with pistols if they go over 6 ft/lbs they are illegal as before.

All it takes is for a few nut-jobs to go on a killing spree with illegally held weapons anyway, and the government caves in the the angry mums brigade and bans handguns, or with the VCRA make it very difficult to purchase even airsoft guns without proving you are a memeber of a skirmishing site etc. The thing the goverment and angry mums neglect to realise is that criminals dont buy guns (even when they could) through legal channels, so introducing ban & ban only effects responcible, law abiding shooters; the crims carry on as normal & get their stuff from overseas and the underworld black market trade. I dont know why immigrnats want to flock to the UK, this place is really going down the sh*tter lately under 'New labour' government...

EDIT: wow, hows that for good timing Native Paul! I like your more accurate explanation more than mine- I have trouble remembering specific info, and went for the general gyst of it.... :)

nativepaul 11.17.2007 01:57 PM

Yeah great minds think alike! good timing there.

Interestingly handgun crime has risen fourfold in the (roughly) 10 years since Lionel Blair banned them.

Your right about the Olympic team practising in Europe, I wasn't good enough for the Olympics but I was better than average and only a kid, who knows how good I would be now if I had kept it up. If Ihad to spend half my time out of the country to practice I'd apply for nationality and shoot for Switzerland in the olympics. :na:

suicideneil 11.17.2007 04:26 PM

As Corpral Jones would say " They dont like it up 'em!". That would be the best way to knock the government, especially if you were interviewed on Tv and explained why you had to live in Switzerland to carry on shooting. You are also right about gun crime- it has sky-rocketed in the cities, but the government would rather ban water pistols and sticks that look like guns, rather than deal with gangs and blackmarket importers. Makes me sick that they would rather appear to be doing something to win votes, instead of actually doing something- good old paper work keeps the coppers busy these days, not crims.
