EDIT: Unless Im mistaken, the concept truck at the expo with the hvmaxx mounted was a static model, so no one saw it running, or inside the gear cover- traaxas probably didnt even have a pinion mounted...

No, it isn't pretty. Someone needs to tool up and make us some spur gears that are worth using with brushless.

The design of the spur gear would be MUCH better if it were dished like the spurs on the rustler design. It would then come back around the clutch pads and move the mesh much closer to the motor plate.

IMO, this design puts the load out on the very end of the "already long" Titan Motor shaft.

@Neil - Do you have yours all taken apart yet? :lol:

I removed the transmission from the Chassis and opened it up. The gears are much wider. All steel used on the input AND the wide idler gear is steel also.

The output gear is still plastic, but it is MUCH wider than the original design.

Spacers are used on the input shaft and the output shaft where the 2 speed kit gears will go.

There is one thing that really makes me curious here. Take a look at this output gear.

See those little "teeth" sticking out? The ones arranged in a circle?

On this transmission case, there is a "window" that has two screws and a block off plate attached. This is positioned right over those "teeth" on the output gear. hmmmmmm...........

Could this be for some sort of future speedometer upgrade?

My idea of dished spur gears won't work to pull the mesh closer.

There is a clearance issue with one of the transmission mounts.

Have you ever heard it said that most things happen for a reason?

I think it was a very underhanded thing for Traxxas to display that truck with the Novak setup when there's NO WAY that would even work.

I also think it's pretty strange how the Velineon motors just happen to have came out with a longer than normal motor shaft. Just by looking at it, I would say it's just as long as the Titan motors. Hmmmmmmm......

Traxxas has the twin Velineon setup displayed on their website. They also know it's going to be a huge burden for motor manufacturers to suddenly stop production and accomidate this change. Even though this change puts more stress on the motor shaft. It's gonna be a shaft breaker if too much power is hooked up like this.

What about all of us that have GREAT brushless motors for this setup? Oooooops, one problem! The motor shaft is going to be too short. I guess we'll just have to buy new ones. :yes: Now for a look at the market for something that will work for this........Hmmmmmm. There's the Velineon motors. :yes:

The Marketing Genius's over at Traxxas think they have created for themselves a "window" of sales opportunity.

AS SOON as I can get my hands on a copy of the single motor plate for this, I'm going to do everything I can to create a bullet proof motor plate that will clear the clutch AND pull the motor closer to the spur.

Gentlemen, I think we've been had. At least until we can figure out a way around it. :whistle:

Maybe I am dumb, but I do not see too much problem with using a motor that has a 15mm long shaft and just spacing the pinion out a little more. There is still plenty of shaft for the set screw to hold onto. Just my feeling on the subject. Plus who is going to try and use a novak hv motor in that thing? We all know that 1/8" shafts are crap for high power applications.

I honestly don't see that much of a problem either.. just ask Mike to make up a Wider Pinion or a pinion with a wider hub... I know it puts quite a bit more stress on the bearings/shaft.... but the 5mm shaft could handle quite a bit of stress as well..

Just put a neu motor in it... it has a longer shaft than most other motors.

I had the thought of using a motor with a 5mm shaft & longer pinions too. The only trouble is most of the younger guys, like on the traxxas forum, already have the hvmaxx system and cant afford to upgrade to something more expensive, so they are pretty much stuck. Novak are working on the 5mm shaft upgrade though, and hopefully the engineers will take this issue into account (they are buying a new emaxx to check the tranny issue out)- hopefully that will be a fairly simple fix.

I dont have the new emaxx or tranny- Im happy with the old one!

Maybe I over reacted a little bit.

I swapped out the motor shaft on my Cyclon Car 2000 motor. The original shaft was a 5mm turned down to 1/8" where the gear mounts.

One of the most dependable little motors I've owned. It's been ran alot with no problems at all. Good for 18 cells and 1300 watts. :yes:

There was a longer 5mm shaft here out of a Century 600 outrunner that was a perfect match.

I'll play around with this setup for awhile. Everything lined up really good.

That is one of Mike's 20 tooth pinions for a 5mm shaft. Isn't it pretty?

i'm sure in a worst-case-scenario for the new emaxx owners with a novak system, they'll have to pay $30 for a new, longer rotor to replace what they have. problem solved. (maybe novak will make the shaft thicker, but then everyone will have to upgrade pinions too).

i do agree with your conspiracy theory - it seems too 'planned' by Traxxas engineers to be just coincidence. older motor shafts not reaching as far forward just cannot have been overlooked.

Not too sure if I agree about the "consiracy". The revo style slipper is a certain thickness, as are the new stlye maxx spur gears. The titan motor shafts reach just fine and that is what the tranny was designed around. Plus the hv maxx is a bit long in the tooth, and needs a shaft upgrade IMO. Pinions are a cost to factor in, but we all know by now what speed to gear a certain weight to with a certain tire and motor kv. I can pick the correct gearing first time and be happy with it.

The new E-Maxx tranny with revo spec slipper looks like a great design all around.

Just use a Mega Motors long shank pinion and a revo spur and you're all set :intello:

Novak seemed on phone that a longer shaft solution was not really a option cause of costs etc ....we will see ....I see trinty has those DUO 550 Monster Truck Brushless Motors do you need 2 of them ? Anyone use em? http://www.teamtrinity.com/shop/item.asp?item=TRI10211
