So I gave it another run tonight. Stopped about 10mins in to replace the crap stock steering servo saver with a 1/8 scale type of servo saver. I used the HPI kit, as the lhs had it and it was fairly cheap. Big difference, and I am still using the stock steering servo. I have a hitec 5997 to put in, but I wanted to see the difference that the better servo saver design would make.

Had my buddy radar it, 41-43 mph at best. We also built some jumps and beat the truck a bit. Nothing broke, and I would say that I got at least 30 mins of mixed bashing. This is with the polyrc 3600 12c cells, 8 in series. I have a pair of flightpower 3700 25c 4s packs to get from the lhs. That should allow me to gear up to a 16t pinion from the 14t.

Temps were good, batteries and esc were warm, the motor was hot, but not as hot as the last run. I found that the slipper was set too loose, and was letting the motor spin up almost unloaded. I tightened it up, too much actually. I was doing backflips if not careful! I adjusted the slipper a bit and got it where it needed to be.

I do need to install the twin disk brakes, and have the hex at the lhs. I have a single disk at the moment, and it just does not have the power to stop this truck the way I want. I also put a wheely bar on it, a must IMO!

Still need to get some pics, but I may wait until I get the wiring finalized. I am still looking for a cheap bec that can handle 10s lipo. Hobby City have a turnigy bec that looks good, and is 20 bucks. I need some other stuff from them, so I may order a couple to test out.

What servo saver did it have on it and what saver have you changed too? I have been wanting to upgrade mine but haven't looked into it yet. Good to hear that it runs well and you really need to get some pics linc. No one really cares about the wiring.

Haha looks familiar, heres my bro's solution for a savage conversion, including twin outrigger battery trays. Good having it clamped like that, though gearing is somewhat limited - no problem unless your aiming to break any world speed records.

It had a stock servo mounted saver. I replaced it with this: http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXJSS6&P=V

Night and day difference, much better. I will upgrade the servo too, and this kit comes with all of the different adapters to fit all of the servos.

More progress

Got my Hobby city order in a few days ago, with the hv becs!

Bought two of these: http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/s...idProduct=6320

Wired one up to the savage and it works great, no interference, and it even has an on/off switch. It is not small, and has a ferrite ring (big one) mounted about halfway along the rec wire. That righ is almost as big as a ccbec, and the main part of the bec is easily twice as big as a ccbec!

Other updates to the truck are a new steering servo, hitec 5997tg, and i relocated the rec to the area in front of the servos. Also added the twin disk brake setup, HD center cvds, and rebuilt the front diff to a 4 spider design. Also added a rcm heatsink to the motor, and put a set of 17mm hexes and some pin style tires.

Still running the 2 4s 3600 packs, and they work fine. Bashed it hard today, and 20mins later had a 2wd truck! Something completely let go in the front diff.

It was a blast though, tons of power. I was jumping it off the side of a ditch that runs down the middle of my grassy bash area. Got at lest 6ft of air and the truck flew well on power. I will open up the front diff and have a look at it, may be time for some al diff cups! The hpi ss ones with the steel inserts look good, I will have to try them out!

I demand pictures.

That BEC looks rather good for the price, and the on/off switch is a great feature.

My, aren't you getting needy Neil! HAHA

I will take some pics tomorrow, and see what happened to the front diff.

MTBikerTim 04.25.2008 10:04 PM

Ahh that's right. I have to check the front diff in my nitro savage. I think it's toast.

How about pics and video linc. I wanna see the beast go.

lincpimp 04.25.2008 10:09 PM

I will talk to my buddy tonight and see if he can bring the camera tomorrow. I may try to set it up on a tripod and get a few long shots of my bashing area.

Hope i have the parts to fix the savage, may have to make a trip to the lhs!

lincpimp 04.26.2008 05:38 PM

No video, my buddy had to get his mom out of the hospital (strained her fat or something like that) and it rained.

Found the problem, I run the HD center cvds, and the screw in pin in the front fell out. So the cvd was just spinning on the pinion shaft. Must have forgot the loctite! So my front diff did not grenade!

I rebuilt the front diff anyway, the ring gear was worn and slightly chipped. Inside the plastic diff cup looked fine too. I have no idea how old it was, most likely the original! I used stock hpi ring and pinion and the hpi alloy diff cup with the steel insterts. Added some ofna 5k diff fluid too.

The rear diff still has the 4 spider plastic cup in it, so I need to change that. I ordered another new ring and pinion as the lhs only had 1 set. I also shimmed the fron diff, and it seems fine in the plastic bulk, but we will see!

Heres some pics, the ferrite ring is that thing on the tranny case. Absolutely no glitching or range issues with this bec. Worked flawlessly, and did not get warm. My radio is a futaba 3pm, on 75mhz FM. Also got a shot of the RCM heatsink/clamp. It lowered the motor temps to around 140-150, so about 10-20 degrees. The esc ran cool too, not much over 120.

Nice setup, I like how you use heat shrink tubing to attach the antenna wire to the side of the antenna tube, I do the same thing! I can never get my old beat up antenna wire to go through the tube, hell I cant get new wire to go through the tube either but thats another story:rofl:

Well, if you put a little glass cleaner in the tube, it makes sliding the antenna wire through much easier.

That is actually masking tape I used, but I will try heatshrink now that you told me! I do have the wire in the tube, but there was alot of extra that I had sticking out, so I taped it to the side. I usually finalize my electronics mounting as I test a setup. I usually takes a dozen runs to get everything just the way I want it!

I really liked your motor mount I would like to copy it if you donīt mind?
What is the measurement of it??

Sure, I do not mind if you copy it. As for measurements, I will have to get them next time I take the truck apart. All I did was cut the al angle until it fit the space, and left enough room on either side for it to slide for gear adjustment. I then took the plate out and out the motor in with the pinion on it so that I could make a mark where the center shaft would have to be. I made the mark on the nitro motor plate, and then place the motor mount back in and transfered the mark to it. I used a 14t pinion, so I figured that that would be the about halfway between the smallest and largest pinions that I would want to use. So when I transfered the mak I made sure the motor mount was set in the middle of the adjustment slots. That way I had room to slide it close or father ways from the spur. Sounds more complicated than it is.

Thanks, this truck is for sale actually... I just stopped running it and it is taking up space...

BitHed 01.08.2009 11:47 AM

...finally got the pictures :D Clever motor mount LP :yipi: Simple is best...Did you / would you consider making them for sale?
