Thats good news, hope it stays like that

Yes, please let's hear from those who have NOT had problems. This controller is my only hope of durability...............

killjoyken 05.11.2008 09:10 PM

Although I didn't get to do some extended bashing today, I did do some test runs in front of my house with the Monster. Since I'm still waiting for my 1515/1y to show, I'm still running an 8xl in my FLM Savage on 4s. I programmed in the exact same settings that I had in my MM: Start power-high, Traction control-off and the low speed cogging issues I had before are GONE. The throttle is now super smooth and I swear the acceleration is faster. I can't wait to jump this thing.

I guess I'll have to wait til next weekend to give it a good beating.

DickyT 05.12.2008 10:29 AM

New MMM on the way! Castle is the best, 1st round quirks aside ;)

BL_RV0 05.12.2008 10:41 AM

Hmmm. I'd be worried because a 1y on 5s seems like it would kill any ESC, and so far it has.

The way it died was weird though. it died after a slow reverse, it did not let smoke out. the way the quark died was spectacular and the the way the MM died was my fault for plugging 5s into the MM. I'm considering going 4s since I can't get WOT on 5s anywhere unless I set the slipper loose, then it slips and throws pads. it has sooo much power.

If I decide to stay with 5s i'm using an ubec....

finfin 05.12.2008 12:45 PM

What is the main cause of mamba monster dead?

DickyT 05.12.2008 01:14 PM

failed bec.

Arct1k 05.12.2008 01:29 PM

Does it work it you leave the red wire in and use an Ubec. Can you reverse power the brain board I wonder....

DickyT 05.12.2008 01:50 PM

No, i did not try ubec, was not soldering just to test, but pulled red wire and tried rx pack I had on hand. only got steering.

and it decided to castle link again, i reinstalled the drivers on my pc. but still will not power on, and the fan just twitches when you flip the power switch.

Arct1k 05.12.2008 01:59 PM

What happen if you lead the red wire in - Ie power ESC from rc pack...

I wouldn't try that if it were me. With doing so, he'd be backfeeding voltage across the BEC circuit that has already failed and he measured to be 1.47V at the output. There's some sort of low impedance shunt in that circuit and applying an external Rx pack will apply 5V directly across that low impedance. I'd bet that there will be some smoke as a result.

Well, I just had the same problem. After the first 5 min of running my bec went to 1.09 volts. I came in and tried a receiver pack and everything runs fine off of it. My setup is a 9xl on 6s in a 3905.

I say let it smoke.

Wow, I'm surprised. I'm curious as to how much current the Rx pack is having to provide in this instance. Does the Castle Link work on yours without having to power the ESC with a Rx pack?

DickyT 05.12.2008 02:35 PM

I'm done messing with it. If I damage it further trying to breathe life into I ruin Patrick's ability to determine failure point. I would like to see this issue get resolved for future generations of the ESC. So I am done tinkering with it.

xtremelimits285 05.12.2008 02:45 PM

when i get mine , i think ill try mine on my 3s 8000mah pack on my 8T with my neu 1515 1y/f motor, ive been running 3s on my 8T since the begining of the year when a cell went bad in my 4s 8000mah pack, and i made it into a 3s pack....

it doesnt have monster torque, it runs/feels like a nitro, a hair more power overall witch is just fine its easyer to drive at my backyard track... And when i finaly go to my local race tracks to finaly race it (havent been racing in a few years cus im handycap/in a electric wheelchair an need someone to me hook up batterys an fix stuff, etc,, PLUS I CANT WALK/GET UP THE 12-15 FEET HIGH DRIVERS STAND, SO I HAVE TOO BRING MY OWN 2' to 3' HIGH ONE THAT 8' x 8' with a 8-12' ramp I CAN DRIVE UP WITH MY WHEELCHAIR SO I CAN SEE THE HOLE TRACK(i have to make a new one too cus my old one is rooted out, so its going to be a while till i go raceing, plus i have too make it come apart in 2 or 3 peices so it will fit in my van or in my trailer).....

but i do want too run 4s an 5s on my 1515 1y(2200kv), im not sure if i should try 6s, i know more volts is better, an the monster mamba is rated for 6s, im not going to try untill others tryed it, besides 5s is balistic, cant see running 6s all the time, mabey just for onroad speed runs, but thats for my motor/truggy combo... with a 1800kv or lower motor i cn see the need for 6s..

anyways, im in the second batch so hopefully it just a bad batch....but still only 1-2% of the monsters are going bad....thats not bad.... 1 or 2 out of every 100....
it sounds like the bec is going bad an frying the board...or a bad componet...

im not sure how many they make at one time(or how many fets or componets they buy in each batch)

id say they probley make 20-50 at one time......
and mabey get the same amount of componets.....
THIS IS WHAT I THINK......

so i think theres 20-50 bad ones out there that they made...

im sure castle will fix the problem if there is one a.s.a.p.
an for those who have blowen theres up, i know castle will fix urs or just send u a new one, u just have to pay an ship it to them and they will pay to ship it back, it should only take 1-2weeks to get back to u....

Castle is way better then Novak/aveox/ or hacker.lol..... there customer servise is second to none....

Nope, cl doesn't even see that it is connected to the computer. The weird thing is after I connected the receiver pack I disconnected it to put a Castle bec in its place and tried it again and it worked normally for a few minutes then flaked out again.

I'm willing to bet the power from your PC USB port isn't capable of providing enough current to run it. That's likely why you can't see it with CL. Powering it with an RX pack while connected to CL may solve that issue.

Sorry for the off topic but could you please tell me your whole set-up & run time? car,Motor, gearing. I just finished an MBX5 conversion & am using A123-6s. Plan on testing later tonight.

3905 E-maxx - 9XL - 24/68
I only ran it for 15 minutes before I twisted a drive-shaft. I haven't had time to fix that yet so it sits for now.

They are sending me a new one. Patrick said in another thread that they have not received any back yet for post mortem diagnostics. I'll get mine to the as soon as I have the shipping materials.

finfin 05.13.2008 10:26 PM

glad to know that you will get new one....
Congratulation..... DickyT...

On Monday I spoke with Thomas who said give it 2-3 days and I would see my replacement. today is day 4 and the mail man just left. I gave CC a call, Bernie answered, I gave him my incident number and he said that my case notes said "Setup Questions" not dead MMM. Bernie will look in to it and call me back today, but this blows. I was hoping to have at least 1 working RC this weekend. Buggy, touring car, and heli parts failed to arrive too, so I will spend the weekend on the sofa rotting my brain with television :D

She is out of town of I would. She goes out of town every Friday night and returns late Saturday night or Sunday Morning. I'm trying to quit smoking right now, day 16 today tobacco free but it is still a by the minute fight, locking myself in will be the best bet if no RC to play with.

OHH! Keep it up! Great job being 16 days free!

I quit in January myself -- it gets MUCH easier! Just keep it up!

DickyT 05.16.2008 01:02 PM

Thanks for the words of encouragement Patrick and coming form someone who knows the troubles saying it gets easier is music to my ears. A working MMM on my doorstep and the sound of my 1515 spinning would be even better, but I'll take this for now and run with it!

Sounds to me like a good opportunity to get some stuff done that you've been putting off. (assuming you put stuff off like I do.)

Here's some of what I might do if I were stuck alone in my house for the weekend:
-Re-organize the basement, garage, and/or office
-Detail my real car or R/C cars
-Make a video of the last year of my kid's life to send to their grandparents
-Make a how-to video tearing one of my R/C cars down and putting it back together
-Backup all the pictures, videos, and music on all my computers.
-Reformat one of my computers to give it a fresh start again

Some ideas anyway to keep your mind busy.

Good luck with kicking the habit! I know it's hard, but you can do it!

DickyT 05.16.2008 01:29 PM

If only I had a list like that. Everything to be done is done. My condo is 850 sq. ft. and recently remodeled. I don't want to look at my rc's if not one of them is running. I do weekly backups of vital data and have a bi weekly tape rotation so one set is always in a fire proof safe. I have no kids to make a video of and don't think my wife would approve of me having any with her out of town. No need to reformat any of the pc's, I re-image them twice a year and July 20th is my next scheduled imaging day.

I never watch TV, hate that tube thing really, but it might just be the ticket if I'm not out throwing dirt around with brushless powered vehicles. I have many hours of Nat Geo on DVR and some comedy central stuff.

Arct1k 05.16.2008 01:35 PM

Well if I pay for your plane ticket can you do all those things at my house?

That's impressive! No matter how much I do, my to-do list just gets bigger.

I used to be more organized and kept on top of things much better, but having a couple of kids changed everything for me.

Maybe you just need to buy more R/Cs to increase the chances that one of them is always running.

I like the way you think! My wife does not :( 1 was allowed 2, pulled some strings, got 3, pulled some more stings got 4, out of strings.:na:

"But Honey, think of all the money we're saving by not spending money on tobacco! This one vehicle could be the difference in me quitting and going back to that expensive habit. Essentially, this new *insert vehicle here* will save us money and help me live longer. If you don't let me buy this car, you're basically telling me that you don't love me anymore."

Or did you already use that for the 3rd vehicle?

I'm not a very good person.

SunnyHouTX 05.16.2008 03:21 PM

Evil genius ^^^^^ :diablo:

DickyT 05.16.2008 03:55 PM

No I did not use that for the 3rd. I gave up the ramp for the 3rd. No more 3 story high truck smashing jumps for me. lol I hope I get my call back soon, I'd really like to know why they have not shipped my replacement when I called early Monday morning.

edit: pardon my frustrations, they are not right, just a combination of nicotine withdrawal, a horrible week at work, my condo flooded with raw sewage on Monday, and bad rc luck has my rationality askew.

DickyT 05.16.2008 05:49 PM

Looks like I slipped through the cracks. Bernie said they will get one out to me. Here's hoping by next weekend.
