Great videos!. Nice build George!..
|
Thanks.
I did some more mods tonight by installing the Gorilla maxx single speed tranny I scored from Ebay for $50. It was a complete tranny and also came with the traxxas lightweight shafts. Anyway, here are some pictures: http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/h...Picture084.jpg http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/h...Picture083.jpg http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/h...Picture085.jpg http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/h...Picture086.jpg More pics: http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/h...Picture082.jpg http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/h...Picture081.jpg http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/h...Picture080.jpg http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/h...Picture079.jpg http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/h...Picture078.jpg http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/h...Picture077.jpg |
Great Truck....Nice Vids too
Those PVC stands is a pure genius, this is the 2nd time i saw it. Im still bout to make mine :) My Truck is yet to run. Still waiting for my MMM OT: on one of the vids I hear you speak a foreign language or was it a guy watching your truck? Just curious |
That was Tagalog or Philippine language. Two of my neighbors were asking me how fats and powerful the truck is. I speak the language too, by the way.
The PVC stand was the brainchild of one of the traxxas forum moderators. |
Cool I speak that language too :)
Good luck with the rest of the mods... Keep the vids and pics coming |
Another update. I decided to use the GA bulkheads instead of the VBS. However, I modified them so the hinge pins will be the "captured" type like the VBS. No e-clips to worry about. All I did was drill 2.5mm holes and tapped it to use 3mm setscrews. Then I made my own hinge pins using ejector pins (through-hardened steel) and cut a mortise in them for the setscrew to bite on preventing the pins from moving. I have these done on the GA bulkheads on my son's supermaxx too.
I also installed a set of 8 spyder diffs. Anyway, here are some pictures. Feel free to ask any questions about the bulkhead mod. Love the build so far!! I don't suppose you have some 'sweetride' braces coming for those GA bulks  Nice vids as well, looks like it has a ton of power

In fact I do ahve a set ordered. But by the looks of it, I might just keep the braces in my parts bin since the stock braces with the maxxtraxx logo looks good too. I have also decided to use these bulks instead of the like-new towered VBS I scored from Ron. |
|
Looks GREAT!!! Nice Vid... quality work all the way..
Good job George16... |
Dammit, I never got to see the vids. Oh well.
|
Here's the video. You're not missing that much.
http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/h...h_Video016.jpg Here's a couple of pics of the broken tranny output shaft. http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/h...Picture095.jpg http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/h...Picture097.jpg |
A couple of videos. My son didn't want to come with me so I placed the camera on the table and ground for these.

Nice Air...
|
I received a pair of like new setback arms this morning. I also finish gluing my new badlands on proline 1/2" offset rims.
Here are some pictures. http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/h...Picture108.jpg http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/h...Picture110.jpg http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/h...Picture109.jpg http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/h...Picture107.jpg http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/h...Picture111.jpg http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/h...Picture112.jpg http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/h...Picture113.jpg |
It's funny, I steered away from metal arms & stuff on my truck to keep the weight down & the plastic I believed was far more forgiving too.
I like the vids, it was funny to hear the car & then 'pop' up it came flying through the air. I see you have enough room for another Neu too. hey, hey, hey?? Oooooo, imagine how quick you could get it to go. |
Dang, that is one sweet ride!!! How is that Neu, MMM, and LiPo combination working for you? How long of run times do you get? I was thinking about running this setup in my truck.
|
Thanks.
feistyacorn, the combo is very nice and powerful, albeit too powerful at times. I'm getting about 25-35 minutes of runtime on those batteries. The hottest temps I recorded was ESC-112*F; motor- 134*F; batteries-98*F. Mozzy, the weight is not far off from when it has plastic. Right now, the truck weighs 11.7 lbs. with everything (batteries, etc) ready to run. The weight is negligible too since the Neu 1515 1Y is way more than enough to power this beast around our track. It still flips and wheelies on command. Those metal arms are all made by UE out of billet 7075T6 aluminum. They're very strong. My 8-year old son have a nitro setup like mine and run it into a curb at WOT and managed to just bend the titanium skid plate. All I did to fix it was to bend back the skid :). |
Dang.. That’s one sick looking build you have there Sir.. Nice job.. Very nice indeed...
|
How much did you pay for the setbacks? I see some loony is asking $300 for a pair on ebay, he must be stupid....
|

Anyway, I just came back from the track a few hours to test the truck with the setbacks. The front end stays on the ground now and wheelies are now almost gone unless I stab the throttle really, really quick. The power of the 1515 1Y goes to the ground more than ever before. I did find out that the 8mm cvds rub against the shock spring retainer so I decided to relocate the shock to the inside. http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/h...Picture114.jpg |
hey lito, on the spring relocation, do you think it would still hit if it were the 6mm cvd- maybe go to 6mm if it doesn't hit the shocks, since your week point is definitely not the cvd- i've seen a lot of tranny shafts snap with the brushless power lately...
also the setbacks look like they fit nice without any need to shim. have you tried this setup on your other trucks to see if the shocks will fit inside the arms with 8mm cvd's on different bulks? what's your wheelbase now with the setbacks? sorry so many questions, just gotta love your setup... |
Jim, my predator with setbacks don't have a clearance issue with the 6mm Titanium cvds I have on it. I tried it on my VBS and when I still have a set of Traxxas aluminum bulks. It only rubs with the 8mm cvds but not with the 6mm.
You're right about the tranny shaft being the weak point. I had since stockpiled some hardened steel output shafts. I'm not sure what my wheel base now with the setbacks and monoblock. Whatever the stock gorilla maxx plus 52mm for the setbacks and mono. |
looking good George.... You do need to stockpile output shafts, I've gone through (4) in last month on my GEVO...
Got any new Video (??).. Have a great one. Shaun. |

Shaun, Thanks. I have 2 as spares and just ordered 2 more from Amian hobbies. |
Just an update.
I installed a Mugen radio box to house the rx and 6V 2500 mah NiMH batteries which I'll be using in preparation for the new ESC I bought from Lutach. The box itself is held in place on the chassis by 2 screws. http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/h...Picture128.jpg |
Nice truck George...
|
Looking better and better Lito. Hmm, integrated limiters i see, nice!
|
Thanks guys.
I was lucky to buy 3 sets of new Strobe integrated limiters :). Anyway, I received the ESC from Luciano(Lutach) this afternoon. I finished the installation and setup but can't do an all out test run because of continuous rain. Hopefully it will clear out tomorrow. My test truck: http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/h...Picture143.jpg http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/h...Picture142.jpg My daughter doing an inspection of the truck  http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/h...Picture139.jpg Mugen radio box containing the rx pack and Futaba rx: http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/h...Picture145.jpg The adapter I made so I can still program the ESC with the wire and program card. http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/h...Picture144.jpg http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/h...Picture132.jpg http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/h...Picture134.jpg Soldering 6.5mm bullets and dean's: http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/h...Picture136.jpg I did do a few slow runs in the hallway . |
looks great Lito.....
I have the same servo extension on my MAXX..... let us know how it goes...... (hope the rain stops...crossing my fingers) |
Thanks Jeff.
I just looked at the weather report and they are forecasting rain for the next 2 days :diablo:. |
Very nice, as usual!! Keep us posted.
|
It’s hard to say which it better looking your beautiful daughter or that bad ass build you have.. I would have to say the Daughter though..:yipi: Truck is looking GOOD too..:party:
So when are you going to post some more Vido updates of your build George (?) |
Thanks Shaun. She loves tinkering with the trucks. She sits next to me everytime I do something with them.
Here's some more pics of her: http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/h...Picture054.jpg http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/h...cture088-1.jpg http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/h...cture086-1.jpg No vids until the rain stops here. The forecast is not good at all. It's kind of funny how our weather was so nice before I received my ESC but now that I have it installed, the weather is not cooperating at all. |
All right!!! That's what I call bring them up right from the start..
She totally adorable George, MOM must be a “Knock OUT”! You lucky bastard… |
Thanks. I guess it's nice to be in the military sometimes .
Tell you what though, I think she's more fascinated of the shine from the aluminum. She does not like the Revo as much as the supermaxx . The supermaxx in front of her used to be my son's truck (he's 8 years old). I just retired it from active duty and now will just be on display . He likes driving the revo better so I will be converting it to brushless. I 'm thinking about ordering the Tekno RC revo conversion kit and will run a Neu 1515 1Y or Medusa 36-70 (when they come out) and MMM (once I get my replacement from CC). |
Might as well update my build :mdr:
Here are some pictures of the 3mm aluminum plate I cut and installed on the bottom of the ESC. I also added the 2200 caps killajb gave me. Performance wise, I got the ESC temps to 150*F, motor at 112*F, and batteries 98*F yesterday. This was stop and go running on asphalt. I also experienced hesitation when I tried to run wot. Batteries are Neuenergy 25C 5000mah. Anyway, here are some pictures: http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/h...Picture171.jpg Also glued a piece of rubber underneath the aluminum plate. http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/h...Picture184.jpg Added caps on the power wire. I also shrink-wrapped the standoffs. http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/h...Picture173.jpg http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/h...Picture172.jpg http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/h...Picture175.jpg http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/h...Picture183.jpg I also installed some plastic spacers to clear the capacitor wires. The spacers widened the gap between the board and mounting plate. Better airflow for better cooling. The gap is about 3/8". http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/h...Picture174.jpg http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/h...Picture170.jpg Gap before I installed the plastic spacers. http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/h...Picture169.jpg |
wow man nice!
why did you give up on the MMM? have you run it yet? looks sick! get some vid up with the new esc when you get a chance |
Quote:
I bought this ESC from Lutach as a backup for the MMM until they sort everything out. |
oh good to here as i just ordered mine as well. but lutach's exc looks beefy too!
give us your thoughts between this and the monster. this esc might be a viable option for when my dad converts his savage! |
