ok just got back from bashing and my fan just stopped working. i was about 30 mins in and, took a 5 min break and plugged the batteries back in , turned the esc on..few secs later i hear a slight psh..fan no workie. mmm still works phew. so after i call CC to get the replacement, how hard is it to install the new one? any soldering have to be done? or do i send the esc back to them. CC is closed now so ill have to get some answers here for now.
thanks

5 mins - Just pop the case and put the new one in no screws / soldering involved

blueb8llz 06.06.2008 09:33 PM

greatttt...i suck at soldering. esp now i have to solder a lil thing on a small chip board.
anything i need to beware of when soldering?

BrianG 06.06.2008 09:41 PM

There is no soldering involved...

blueb8llz 06.06.2008 09:42 PM

how does the fan plug into the chip. so whos right there you or artc1k?

BrianG 06.06.2008 09:46 PM

Both. He said there are no screws / soldering involved (meaning no screws or soldering).

The fan plug has a little tab you push down and then slides out of a mini connector. The new one slides in.

blueb8llz 06.06.2008 09:50 PM

ahhh ok i misread what he put. thanks for the clear up...i feel alot better knowing theres no soldering involved. so i been reading this thread and it looks like all i do is remove the stickers on the side, and pop open the tabs. so theres 8 tabs in total. any tricks to remove the tabs. i heard a few people have broken their tabs already.
so if i was to purchase the novak fan, that one comes with a mini connector as well...or will i need to solder that sucker on?

BrianG 06.06.2008 09:54 PM

If you push on the tabs only as much as you need, you shouldn't break them. Just loosen one, and gently apply a little opening pressure on the case to keep that tab from relocking while you work on the other ones.

If you get a fan with different connector than the one on the MMM, then yes, you'll need some soldering.

ok got it. thanks for your help briang , arct1k

If you fan stops working would it be best to stop straight away incase the blowen fan does something to the board?

blueb8llz 06.06.2008 10:09 PM

from what joe ford from Castle is saying...yes stop running the vehicle. if you run the mmm without a fan, it voids the warrantee as well.

killjoyken 06.08.2008 04:41 PM

Well, my fan is now dead. One blade on the fan broke off and may have blocked the fan causing it to burn out. I'll put the Novak fan in and see how long that lasts.

blueb8llz 06.08.2008 07:20 PM

im gonna have to start carrying a bottle of air compressr with me to blow on the fan to make sure no particles are in there. and those cans arent cheap either. maybe i wont. hehe

The standard fans break cause they are only cheap, can't see why the Novak one would fail, were you running it off the board or reciever etc.?

Still running it off the board. I've been running the MMM completely stock. I've gone through about 6 fully charged 4900mah 4s Neu packs and got about halfway through a 6s pack. I had no idea the fan had died until I broke my rear diff and had to stop running.

I'll be running the Novak off of the rx.

Five-oh-joe 06.09.2008 04:38 PM

They're both right. Arct1k said there's no screws/soldering (read it as screws or soldering or screws and soldering).

There's probably a little white molex connector that plugs into the board. Probably quite simple to replace.

Well, the MMM has been run beyond the 1 hr mark with minor mod to the fan. Removed the lead from the esc & plugged it into the receiver. Also using a UBEC to power everything. So far, so good. The fan is mounted in the front of the buggy above the steering servo with 1 hole offset to the rear of the esc. I.e. no hole in the shell directly above the esc. With this configuration, after an hr of running hard around the track, esc was 10 deg C above ambient with fan. More tests this weekend...

Joe Ling
