well im stil waiting for my MM to come back from castle so another wait wont make any difference
plus if they are decent packs it will save me money from the truerc one i was going to get

it says "JST-XH for balance/charge and Deans style T-connector for discharge." i have a JST XH balance adapter already but when i plug it in to charge do i only need to plug the balance connector in? and not the deans plug

also would it be a good idea to get a lipo sack considering i am new to lipo's?

gearing and temperature go hand in hand like this:

if the motor is too hot and esc barely warm = gear up as you are running to close to full speed all the time (which makes the motor run hotter yet is easier on the esc)

if the motor is cool and esc too hot = you have the opposite problem you are over geared which means your over taxing the controller running at too low of speed and the motor isnt even breaking a sweat.

for optimal gearing it all depends on how your driving and such but i like to equal out on motor and controller both in the 135-140 range on these 96+ degrees summer days.

if both are running too hot (over 160) then your prolly under powered or something else could be wrong

rcsammy 07.10.2008 04:01 PM

ahh ok, that makes sence. i always thought that the motor ran cool on lower gearing because its not working as hard to move the car and that it ran hotter on higher gearing because its having to work more

unfortunatly the heatsink clamp is out of stock at the moment but im hoping it will be back by the time the zippy lipo's come back in stock

also have you got a link to a feigao 9L
i might buy it anyway but that one on hobbycity just seems too cheap, has anyone actualy ran that exact motor?

azjc 07.10.2008 05:08 PM

if you buy Zippys buy the R cells they are the only packs that have Korean cells I just recieved a 6s pack I have yet to run

rcsammy 07.10.2008 06:33 PM

ok, they are only 4150mah though whereas the H packs were 5000
...but they are instock

the R packs use Korean cells which is where enerland cells are made, these are the highest quality packs you can buy..I am expecting a higher discharge rate than the 5000 packs and the run time difference will be minimal...and at the price they charge you could but a few

rcsammy 07.11.2008 04:04 AM

ok then, what runtime should i expect from one of those packs?

how long does it normaly take for mike to get parts back instock?

killjoyken 07.11.2008 08:20 AM

Impakt RC has the 9L in stock:

I have read that those hobbycity motors are going bad pretty fast. I would stick with a feigao. We know they are cheap but they work well. As for the lipo I would go truerc. They underrate their packs and you will get it in less than a week. The hobbycity orders are great but shipping can take a long time and thats if they have it in stock. No stock and it could be months and months before you see anything. My truerc packs never get warm under heavy load and I have been very impressed by them.

rcsammy 07.11.2008 09:18 AM

thanks killjoyken, i did find one on a site called offshoreelectrics, it was the same price but i have heard of impaktrc before so would rather buy from them

i was looking at the truerc packs, they are pretty well priced
3S 8000mah 15C=$150 10C=$110
or 3S 6400mah 15C $132

either one of those packs or 2 zippy R packs

hemiblas 07.11.2008 10:07 AM

I run the 8000mah 10C packs in my BL emaxx and they dont get 5 degrees above ambient temp while running. In my opinion they are overkill. The 15C packs are beyond overkill. I run a 4S 5000mah truerc pack in my bl buggy and its only 10C and doesnt break a sweat.
If this is for a slash, the 3S 5000mh pack would be more than enough.

rcsammy 07.11.2008 12:59 PM

i will go with a zippy R pack aslong as they are instock, it will cut the costs down a bit
maybe i will get a truerc pack or another zippy pack later on if i need one

rcsammy 07.11.2008 03:14 PM

what plugs will i need to order to get the feigao to connect to the mamba max? my MM is in for repairs and i dont know what size the bullet connectors are

the MMM comes with 6.5mm connectors but you will need to solder them on yourself, they do take a little more to solder them on than smaller connectors, I think you would be fine if you used 5.5mms especially if you run more than a 4s pack...when you solder them on just make sure you use at least a 75 watt iron otherwise you wont have enough heat the bigger connectors act as a heat sink

rcsammy 07.11.2008 03:33 PM

its just a MM not a MMM..confusing.. or do they use the same connectors?

Arct1k 07.11.2008 04:35 PM

4mm connections for motor and none to battery - you would need to put your own deans on.

3s 8000 is HEAVY for a slash - I think I'd be going for a max of a 3s 5000...

rcsammy 07.11.2008 06:02 PM

ok, thanks
i guess the motor will come with no connectors?

the 8000 was my original idea but i have now learnt that i dont need that much and it is too expensive at the moment anyway
will be geting a zippy R pack

depends on the motor..most do not but the Tekno Neus do have 4mm connectors already on but I would remove those unless you are planning a less than 75 amp draw.

people will go with a higher capacity in a pack to compensate for a lower output (less than 20c)

brushlessboy16 07.11.2008 06:57 PM

Do you still need a motor? i have a Feigao 10l with RCM heatsink clamp.. pm me if ur interested

killjoyken 07.13.2008 07:27 PM

Guess what? My 8L can finally separated! Guess I'll have to grind down my heatsink clamp after all. Considering the amount of abuse I've put this motor through I'm surprised it's lasted this long...

rcsammy 07.14.2008 05:51 AM

 hopefully my 9L will be ok for a bit without one as mike is out of stock

killjoyken 07.16.2008 12:25 AM

Yeah, just watch the tail landings. I was giving it too much throttle and jumping nose high. Once the nose is up the damn body acts like a sail making it almost impossible to bring the nose down.

I shaved down the heatsink clamp to fit and pressed the 8l back together only to have the front bearing fall apart after 20ft. Like I said, I've abused this motor. But now I'm thinking of trying the Medusa 50mm.

rcsammy 07.16.2008 07:21 AM

found one :yipi: i looked on a UK forum last night and a guy was selling one, unfortunatly its blue, i might de anodise it

edit: sorry this is a bit of a noob question but should i have my esc fan blowing onto the speed controller or blowing away?

Have it blowing down, and space it away from the esc heatsink about 1/4 inch for best results.

Oooooo, I'm telling BrianG!!!!

rcsammy 07.21.2008 07:34 AM

well my lipo, lipo sack and motor and all that stuff has turned up
im surprised at how short the motor wires are, hopefully they will reach
should i dremmel a flatspot on the motor shaft? or will the pinion grip ok

oh and just a note to people dont get ofna diff lock lube on your hands....its like an oily glue that you cant wash off:lol:

BrianG 07.21.2008 09:44 AM

Now now, everyone is entitled to their opinions on the use of fans...

... but those opinions would be wrong if they aren't mine.

rcsammy 07.22.2008 08:03 AM

how much do i need to grind off the heatsink to get it to fit in the slash?

brushlessboy16 07.23.2008 04:06 PM

For anyone whos interested i have a Feigao 10l with an RC-monster heatsink on it
