rear mount is in the works |
Here is a body I've been designing for speed runs with my Ultra GTP. I'm still revising it on paper. I'll post up the revisions when I'm finished. I'm using Autodesk Inventor 9.

nice, Gotta love solidworks :D
Revised top plate chris,

I just found this one, too. It's a dual 90mm ducted-fan mount. For another Ultra GTP kit sometime in the future.
http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g4...inFanMount.jpg brushlessboy16: It's Autodesk Inventor... |
oh, has the same OI as solidworks
Oh. I did not know that! SolidWorks is real nice, too. I've been using AI since high school, so I kinda stuck with it.
bb16 - I'll be sending you some questions soon about solidworks... I have the program but can't figure out how to use any of the features for the life of me...
i run proD, then make things look pretty in solidworks :D
Hey ben, im me i got somthing for you to draw up for me
The motor plate looks great - Just need to tweak the top plate now :)
it IS tweaked
It would be great if there was a place to mount a MMM on the top plate.
bb i am about to buy a mill this winter and convert it t cnc what g-code cad software you recommend, i am totally new to this cad stuff but need figure it out just need to know good software to use.
the cnc software and the CAD software are completley independant of each other- as long as you export your files from CAD in a format that the CNC can read your fine
yeah that is what im saying i dont know what ones to get.. My cnc machine will use mach3 and what ever else i need and that is what i am confused on.
hmm i wouldnt know what software to use for the cnc itself...
I believe this may be a all in one type deal not sure. this is what will come with my stepper motors and control box but it seems this can design certain things but not a total cad type software. http://www.machsupport.com/
well i dont know what files that can import...
Allows direct import of DXF, BMP, JPG, and HPGL files through LazyCam
neither solidworks or ProDesktop can export any of them... idk
hmm i will have to do some serious research then to see what is possible.
you want to look for
.inges .step |
what are those file extensions used for? The cad software? I know they must be the design files of some sort.
yup those are the magor export files, universal really.
guess i should have took cad in high school lol. Oh well i learn fast and have taught myself many things so this will be no different.
What type of interface do you use with your PC? A controller card of some sort?

Hows AutoCAD? Looking for something to play with.

I will have Sieg X2 Mini Mill (http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/cta...emnumber=44991) CNCfusion conversion kit (www.cncfusion.com kit 4) xylotex controller and stepper motors which will connect via Parallel port of a computer. (http://www.xylotex.com/Econo4AxSpecial.htm) Will use Mach3 software for Cad to CNC interpretation (http://www.machsupport.com/) and a CAD program i am unsure of yet. |
Plan on doing it for profit?
There was a guy who built his own machine on instructables.com |
not directly for profit but wouldn't mind dong a few small projects and i have seen that desktop cnc on instructables and figured i might as well get one that can do some big stuff too while i am at it. Also ebay sells the above mills converted to CNC with the software and everything BUT CAD for about 1600.
hey, sorry i'm late.
my site has some old stuff on it: http://a4dtm.com hmm, the only new pics I have are for my job. I design full sized controllers for electric vehicles. but what I'm working on is all concept design right now, and I don't think I'm allowed to show them.. I'll ask about it on Monday, and post if I'm allowed. |
1600 isnt bad at all.
yeah might just go that route but kind of wanted the self satisfaction that i made it into a cnc, you know what i mean.
by the way, my current computer's 2ghz/768mb.. Solidworks didn't like that, so I ordered this today:
Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 Kentsfield 2.4GHz LGA 775 Quad-Core Processor Model BX80562Q6600 - Retail $189.99 G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model F2-8500CL5D-4GBPK - Retail $104.99 Western Digital Raptor WD740ADFD 74GB 10000 RPM SATA 1.5Gb/s Hard Drive - OEM $149.99 LITE-ON 20X DVD±R DVD Burner Black SATA Model iHAS120-04 - OEM $23.99 Shuttle SG31G2 Intel Socket T(LGA775) Intel Core 2 Quad / Core 2 Duo / Dual-Core / Celeron 400 serial support Intel G31 Barebone - Retail $209.99 I'll be able to model at home again, and get decent renders without taking ALL DAY :). |
The shuttle will take 45nm chips - Q9440/9550 - the Q6600 that is a little old now - The newer ships will use less power which is good for a shuttle (i've built two shuttles before - my wife still uses one)
If you want the full 4GB you will need to look at running a 64bit OS The built in graphics will be ok but not up to gaming... Rather than a Raptor (again this is the older model) it might be worth looking at some of the 750/1tb drives they actually have great transfer rates acres of storage http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822148274 |
Just got done with my custom HV ESC. Let me know what you guys think.
