Here's one made with Thunder Tiger parts, like the original made by cowboy a few years ago. Again using sjcrss idea of threading holes in the spur gear. I made this one for my 3.3 Revo. I think I said it before, the only difficult part for me making these diffs is threading holes in the hardened steel spur gear. So I decided to order an all carbide tap. Expensive stuff but I use M3 taps so often, it will be used often.

Looks great.

Hopefully someone will sell these already made...I am doing a 3.3 Revo conversion and want a bomb proof transmission when I am done...so is there anyone who would be willing to make one? I do not have access to what is needed to complete this diff.

E-fanatic 03.14.2009 08:10 PM

I would buy one b/c I really like the 4 spider design. I like the fact that you have more diff oil options than with the traxxas one. Please someone sell one!!!!!

making parts for other people is very time consuming and you don't make any money at the end. It actually cost you money, I know a little something about it. That is the main reason why I post whatever I do in as much detail as I can. So that people who think it was a good idea can give it a try and make it themselves. I love this hobby and I like tinkering and trying to improve my RCs. Some say I post too much stuff that seem impossible to make for the average Joe. I am an average Joe, with limited tools and knowledge so I say, what's stopping you? Some like to disagree with whatever I do, some love the stuff I do and some say I'm crazy to post pics of all the stuff I do and that I could get rich selling them. I don't care, I like to share. And I tried making a little money selling parts I made. Didn't work

Looking good MC, im glad my original design is proving to be quite universal, since it seems like there is some interest in them, maybe we can get mike to take some interest, I have all the info for him.....I just need to know if he would be interested, and if there is enough people wanting one....so I suggest, everyone getting in contact with Mike, & we can go from there....

squeeforever 03.14.2009 11:43 PM

This makes me wish I never sold my diff from cowboy...

On a side note, hey Brian, you still got it?

mistercrash 03.15.2009 08:37 AM

It's been a long time since I've seen that avatar  I never get tired of watching it.

Trying to get Mike to modify that spur gear like sjcrss did in the first place would be great. And the shafts are pretty simple to make also. I made mine using 6 mm stainless steel rod bought at Fastenal.com. The modified spur gear and the two shafts from Mike with a materials list needed to complete the diff would be nice. The only thing difficult part to get is the output gear from the Traxxas center diff. They still don't sell it separately. I wonder if the 3984X output gear would work? I have one coming to study it.

alangsam 03.19.2009 03:19 PM

has anyone discussed this with mike?

sjcrss 03.19.2009 07:48 PM

I sent Mike the original design info a few months back for the 4 spyder CD I designed, and i never heard anything back from him, I guess he is still real busy with the slipperdiff design, hopefully we can get his attention....and or his input as well.

mistercrash 03.20.2009 09:34 AM

hey sjcrss,
I thought I'd share this with you. I managed to get the TRA3984X gear to fit your Hyper 7 CD. It is not as pretty as the gear from the Traxxas ERevo CD but until they start selling that CD gear separately, it's a cheaper alternative than buying the whole ERevo CD just to get the gear.

sjcrss 03.20.2009 10:39 AM

Thats great, & awesome....I didn't even think of that, One question though, the shaft length stayed the same correct...

mistercrash 03.20.2009 02:13 PM

yep, same shaft lengths. Only one thin shim needed on the back shaft to make it perfect. I went with four holes since the cap was already drilled and the holes were threaded. The back of the gear has 5 spokes so 5 holes lined up between the spoke could be done too. Question is, do we really want one more hole to drill and put threads in?

madmaxx 03.20.2009 02:30 PM

again, as always EXCELLENT work mistercrash :yipi:

sjcrss 03.20.2009 02:31 PM

considering how much a PITA the 4 holes are....i think we are ok, but 5 couldn't hurt, as for me, i'll stick with the 4...

sjcrss 04.04.2009 09:11 PM

Took CD out just for a little TLC and see how it is holding so far, and here is the update.....
No leaks or loose screws, at all, the gear is holding up well also.
Bearings... no slop and still roll smooth
Internal 4 spyder gears, holding good as well
30k oil , a little dirty but that is expected, due to break in of the spyder gears
Shafts , are holding there own as well....very strong..
This is just a FYI, for anyone who is interested in the info

SpeedAssault 04.09.2009 06:13 PM

looking forward to seeing it finished and knowing what parts to get

sjcrss 04.11.2009 08:51 AM

I have been using it for a few months, if you want the info, I can supply it, or if im not around, Mr.crash got all of his info from me, so he has it as well, if you read thru the whole thread, the hole pattern, and info is in the thread, but PM if you wish for me to send it that way....

Burnsi 06.22.2009 10:23 AM

hi,

can anybody show me what parts i need for doing a center diff with a hyper7 diff?
i have a hyper front diff here and ordered a traxxas diff.
will the hyper diff work better than the traxxas?
what fluid will i need for racing with my e-revo brushless?
the traxxas have 500k inside, this sounds really thick for me.
