Thanks .
Keep us informed of how your 200amp esc goes on the weekend on 4s .For the 2s speed car which esc would be better suited , your 120amp or the 200amp ?

I haven't ran the 200A yet, so I can't compare them. I'll be using the 200A in the drag car so I won't be able to use it with the TC3. I am though going to use the 200A to run the Novak HV1.5 and hopefully everything will handle all the power.

Oh yea , looking forward to this .

Me too. Do you know where your sponsor got all of that CF for his Recoil?

The guy I'm sponsoring is using the Recoil Pro Spashett Edition. I have the same one that I'm testing my oown little 4 pole motors for them. So far it looks like the perfect marriage with the 35A eZRun ESC and I'll be racing it as well. Kind of funny going up against the driver I'm sponsoring.

BL_RV0 10.15.2008 10:00 AM

... Is he as good a driver as you?

I'm still trying to get used to carpet racing. I give him a run for the money though and if he gets too cocky, I put him on the wall. I've done it a few times with my Recoil and my 1/12th scale. He couldn't keep up on the tri-oval though. I used to race a banked oval down in Florida.

BL_RV0 10.15.2008 10:58 AM

Nice. I've never tried carpet racing and have always wanted to. Is it worth getting into?

It's harder as you need the right set up to have your car running perfect. I used to race asphalt, concrete road and oval track and I also started racing oval clay. Carpet racing has proven to be more challenging though.

Luciano were do you get the Novak HV 1.5 and 2.5 from ?

I have looked but cannot find any , lowest i got was 3.5 . Did you go with the Novak HV because it has a 5mm shaft .

I found the Tekin in 2.5 but don't know if it has the 5mm shaft . I'm thinking the 5mm shaft would be of benefit to a speed run car .

ffactory666 10.16.2008 05:30 AM

Forgot to ask the kv ratings of those two Novak HV motors .

I found the LRP Vector X-11 3.5T and it's got 9800kv :oh: , thinking this might be good one for the speed run on 2s , that's 72,520 rpm .

Luciano have you used any other esc for speed runs and how did they fare ?

The Novak HV1.5 and HV2.5 were custom request. The normal HV is from 4.5 up to 7.5 I believe. Yes I got because of the 5mm shaft and the longer motor would make a little more torque to push my car better. All the other smaller motors only go down to 2.5 and comes with 3.2mm shafts and those have a Kv of around 11,000-13,000 depending on the diameter of the magnet. I just added a test dummy in my TC3 now. I found a good deal on a Orion Vortex 2.5T, so things should get going Saturday at English Town.

The HV1.5 has a 12,630Kv and the HV2.5 has a 8000Kv. I used the Novak Velocity 4.5R and my TC3 went 67mph and my gearing was at 35/69 and it was still going, but I ran out of space. The only ESC that I've been using is my Xerun 120A, but it'll soon be replaced by my 200A one.

lutach 10.17.2008 05:02 PM

Tomorrow is the big day. I'm going to use the 200A again in my dragster and I'm starting out with 3S lipos. Afterwards it's 4S lipos to see how everything goes. Hopefully the Velocity 4.5R can handle such abuse. Good thing it's rotor is wrapped in Kevlar . The drag bike will run on 3S lipos and I'm going to use my own 5.5 motor and 100A esc. I hope it gets bellow 2.0 sec. as I heard it's a little difficult. I'm also going to do some practice runs with my TC3 on 2S lipos. I have the Orion 2.5T in there now and lets see if the Hobbywing Xerun 120A will be ok afterwards.

Hope all goes well , once you have tested a few set ups i'll see what esc you recommend for my 2s speed pan car .

What kv is that Orion 2.5t you are using , i found it in a few stores but no info or specs . Does it have more than the LRP 3.5t at 9800kv ?

I will use either one in my speed car to fine tune the cars handling and for me to get use to speed runs before i look at a faster set ups.

Ok found it on RC Tech forum , 13800kv for the Orion 2.5t . Next question what pinion range should i look at for this motor in the pan car with a 48p 72T spur gear ?

Thank you for the Kv info as I wasn't sure . I had my pan car doing 80mph with 19/72 and I was using my Aveox RC7 motor and a L160 with 3S lipos. It could've went faster, but it was freaking scary. I have gone faster with my other pan cars, but that one still is my pride and joy with the Dale Earnhardt body one it. Not very aerodynamic body, but it looks awesome.

That's great to know , what kv is the Aveox RC7 . Trying to work out what rpm you were spinning on 3S as if it's similar to the Orion on 2s i will gear very similar with 19/72, pitty i only have pinions from 22t - 26t i will have to buy a couple more.. 80mph is plenty for me to get started as i haven't gone over 60mph before :oh:

I'll get use to that and how the car needs to be set up and feels and will then try and go faster .

The RC7 motor has a little over 4000Kv. Your 22-26T pinion will be nice .

What are you going to get? I'd go for a buggy if you don't have one already.

I am getting a BMI DB10R pan car for a 2s speed run car .

It was too cold and windy. I couldn't get m drag car and the bike to hook up right. I almost destroyed the bike. It launched straight and then for some reason it went to the left and I couldn't bring it back to the right, so it went off flying. Only damage though was a broken CF wheelie bar. I'm going to wait until summer time now. Plus I might make my own drag bike as I don't like the design of the one I'm running.

lutach 10.20.2008 12:18 PM

Lincpimp,

The sensored ESC got shipped out today so you can test it in the crawler. Please post feedbacks here.

Regards.

Sorry about the bike man , it would of been spectacular to capture on video . i didn't even know there was rc drag bikes .
Was looking forward to reports on the 200A esc .

Sounds good. A little background for everyone else.

I am currently running a novak xrs with a 13.5 motor in my cr-01 tamiya crawler. It is a bit of a fast setup, but it is geared as low as possible, and has very good low speed driveability, plus about 10mph top speed. So it is fun to play with, and plenty capable when crawling.

I would like to run a 21.5 motor on 3s, but want to keep the sensored design. Novak does not make any escs that can handle 3s lipo. I may also try a 17.5 motor as it would have the same rpm on 3s as my 13.5 does on 2s.

I will test the esc to see how it does in the crawler enviorment...

The bike is ok and I did get it on video. The 200A has proven itself it the previous race. When the weather warms up, I'll be trying to put it in the record books.

Sounds good lincpimp. My sensored ESC will handle 3S lipos and you don't need an external BEC. I used 3S lipos in my drag bike and I used the ESC's BEC and it worked fine.

lutach 10.21.2008 10:10 AM

The drag bike had my own 100A sensored ESC, 5.5T sensored motor and 3S 2200mAh 25C pack. Here are a few pictures of the bike that I raced (Video will be added after it's done processing ):

Yes, it was a good launch, but I have no idea what went wrong at the end. I didn't have time to correct the bike and it went off flying in style.

Sell the esc for as cheap as possible :mdr::na:

I'm sure you will work out a competitive price , when you do PM thanks as i will use it in my 2s speed record pan car .

Question on the speed car , do you think heavier lipos are better or lighter ones . I am looking at either the SMC 28c 4000mah or 5000mah packs , but i am thinking the heavier battery would help keep the car on the ground .

Any other battery you can recommend that will handle the amps drawn with the Vortex 2.5t motor and gearing you recommended . I have chosen the SMC packs as i know they will fit in the car i am buying and they are top quality cells .

2.00 with a bike is impressive , good luck on the challenge .
