i think i have some in the garage, is it possible to fuse the corners somehow?
i remember my grandpa doing it, something with laquer thinner or acetate that fuses them together... |
Well guys im possibly out for the night.. Just got back from a party, ended up playing manhunt, ran head to read with my friend mike (eovnu87435ds) both of us at full speed, my forehead to his temple.
I blacked out, his temple is swollen.. it was all in good fun- im going to go to sleep |
whew, rough night but im back.
I think im going to have a shot at fabricating my own components. motor mount will be out of 2x2x 1/8th aluminum angle, and battery tray will be from 1/8th kydex plastic, going to try to make a die out of wood to use as a form. and use another peice of wood as the die to form it. is aluminum sturdy enough to tap into, or should i use a nut and bolt |

1/8 al is a bit thin. Go up to 1/4 or 5-6mm. Then you can drill and tap the edges. Kydex makes great trays. I like to use the velcro strap and cut slots in the sides to thread it thru. |

how would i bond the corners of te kydex? |

Not knowing your design, I cannot really comment on material thickness. Sketch it out and I will take a look. You cannot drill/tap the edge of 1/8 al easily and it will not be that strong. |
whipping up a sketch now.

Sorry had to do that! |

this is what i had in mind |
I am guessing you plan to form a L with 2 pieces. You can use the thinner 1/8 to bolt thru, but I would make the motor plate out of thicker al and drill/tap it so that you can bolt the L foot to it. That would require the use of countersunk screws as the heads would be on the chassis, and you want the lower plate flush. I would just buy so L angle al, that is what I used on the GTP...
|
you lost me. that is all one peice of 2x2 angle. bolted to the center brace and the chassis.

That should be fine, have fun making it. Will you do it by hand, or do you have access to a machine? |
by hand

Yes, there is a product that fuses lexan quite well (type 3 acrylic adhesive). Unfortunately, its fumes have been proven to be quite harmful to us humans and is therefore tough to get ahold of. Like Linc said - Kydex will likely be easier for you to work with, and is plenty strong. |

hahaha will do , shimming shouldnt be that hard- why not just bend the aluminum into the correct angle?. im wondering just how much flex there will be in the chassis with that composite center brace? Quote:

email from mike:
Me: Hey mike, im getting a second hand Cen matrix TR FRE edition. im wondering what is the smallest and largest pinion i can use with a 66t spur and your mount. thanks -ben Mike:I don’t think there are many pinion options with the 62t spur – I made the mount with the 46t spur in mind (12-25t or so pinion range with the 46t spur). I would guess about 11-14t or less pinion range with the 62t spur. Mike RC-Monster so thats out of the picture anyways. |

how much pinion-to-spur flex would i be expecting without the mount tied into the CD and what are the effects of this?
|
So far i have on my list
12x12 .125 kydex sheet m4 tap, and matching drill bit 90 Degree countersink Some m4x10 countersunk screws Some 4x10 button head screws, am i missing anything? |
Unless metric are different from SAE, thats actually an 82 degree c'sink. How much do those run BTW. I just get them from work.
|
all metrics are 90 degree
im ordering all this stuff from McMaster.com also added some 3/8x3/8 delrin blocks to mount the tray to the chassis, thanks mike :D |
Good news, im at school now- just got acces to our cnc end mill :D:D:D
 so the motor mount will be machined instead of done by hand- maybe some custom odds and ends- we also have a cnc lathe Cnc machine is: Denford MicroRouter Compact http://www.westwirralworks.co.uk/Res...il.asp?MacID=1 |
Cen was shipped...
|
yayyyyyyyy!
|
Nice build ben, am looking forward to seein how it turns out
|
Just put the order in for:
Greatplanes 4.0mm tap and drill set 4x8mm countersunk screws 13t pinion Red Aluminum Servo arm Some Axial Battery straps Antenna mount 90 degree countersink truck should be here tommorow or friday everything else monday or tuesday |
no truck today  but i did get a set of Hyper st Mud guards (thank jhautz for inspiration) to keep some of the dirt out. along with a set of new crystals for my radio- brought temps down considerably- now they hover around 120 degrees..
|
Should be their soon...
