s Dont mean to be a negater, Those are nice builds of Robins parts. Now you're going to fashion your own, no offence but those dont even look driven once. Dont mean to be mean as I love it, but have you even fired up the pletty/lighteneing yet ? What if it drives like turd is why they stopped makiing it.

I don't care if does! I'm a maxx maniac, have built about a dozen, and will build this one for speed and looks, with Nic Case's 140mph 1521 (yep, I'm a name dropper)

my RM250,raptor700,trx450R and all my other toys are in the same CLEAN like new condition!

suicideneil 12.10.2008 11:34 AM

I concurr. I drive my truck through mud and crap (damn dogs and seagulls), but I always clean it up afterwards- think of these trucks as trophy wives; they always look stunning and perfect, but that doesnt mean they arent 'goers'...

mtbnjim 12.30.2008 01:45 AM

Agreed. Different folks are in this hobby for very different reasons, and even the hobby itself is defined differently for each individual's tastes. Clearly there are those that love building and racing these trucks...there are also some who love bashing and running them until they break and then jerry rig them to run until they break again. Those reasons for being in this hobby and the way those folks have defined the fulfilment of their hobby needs are great...and naturally those aspects of the hobby require a specific set of RC knowledge and skills.

I have a couple of RTR "turds" that I bash the snot out of and don't really even clean or maintain them. It is fun. However, all of my $2K-$3K+ RCs (I currently have about five) are pretty much a continuous work in progress. For me the hobby is about trying to build the best RC I can...finding the best mixture of components for the best (as I have defined it) performance. Sure I run them...but you won't see them taking the big jumps at the track. The best part of the hobby for me is the building process...in particular building these types of custom trucks. I only wish I could airbrush and paint my own shells:whistle:.

Please sign me...I would like to buy one of these chassis. How do I get one?

hey sssp...you can find tons of pics of the chassis in my photobucket album...follow the video link and check out the other pics!!...gope to have some fresh one tomorrow!!

George16 01.05.2009 11:27 PM

Hey Matt, is your direct drive compatible with the existing Strobe slipper or do I need to get your 8mm ones too?

plettenbergs 01.05.2009 11:36 PM

Hey Lito,
if the hole in the center of the strobe slipper is 8mm you can use it...but you will have to use my pressure plates!...the chassis comes complete with RR slipper, slipper pads and custom pressure plates!!:gasp:....i am using the smaller RR slipper(66-70 tooth only)...did this answer your ??

George16 01.05.2009 11:39 PM

It's great to know that the 8mm slipper plates, pads, and slipper are included. That definitely answered my questions. I'll just keep the Strobes as spare for my other truck. Thank you.

On another note, can you pm me the cost of a separate slipper system because I might have to get one as spare so I don't have to worry about shipping.

SHOULD I POLISH THEM ALL OR NOT???
I WILL BE POLISHING MINE ,FOR SURE!!!blimg, bling:whistle:

you guys all should be looking for a GOOD steering rack!!!gen4 if you know what i mean!!

I vote polish...

_paralyzed_ 01.06.2009 12:31 AM

I prefer not polished, to keep the cost down, and I drive the crap outta my trucks so it will get scratched. It could possibly be an option for more money??

Also- You said you had the mgt rr slipper. Is it too large or will it bolt up? With the power people will put on these chassis' the mod1 mgt spur will be much more reliable than the 32pitch maxx spur.

George16 01.06.2009 12:40 AM

I'll take a VBS clip too just in case I get crazy enough in bolting my VBS for bashing :).

Unpolish for me since it will be seeing dirt a lot. Good thing I have 2 extra GenIV servo saver :party:.

plettenbergs 01.06.2009 08:47 AM

Harold...the MGT spur will bolt up!!...i think the center diamiter of the MGT slipper is 8mm just like the E/T maxx slipper!!....i am making them all the same to keep it simple!!....the slipper disc, pads and spur are stock RR...i just had to make custom pressure plates because the shaft has a large pin through it kind of like a CVD or dog bone to keep the slipper in place!!
http://i302.photobucket.com/albums/n...s/DSC01392.jpg...drool,drool,drool!!

_paralyzed_ 01.06.2009 10:10 AM

Awesome!!!!! Hear that guys? The mgt RR slipper fits. Mod1 Gearing! (sure are glad you sold me the mgt rr slipper aren't you Linc):lol:

JERRY2KONE 01.06.2009 11:09 AM

I agree.

I agree with you SSSconcepts about building the ultimate rigs. I have not raced a lick yet with any of my Maxx trucks, but some day I will be tearing up the tracks. In teh mean time I am having a blast just researching and building these things. Some say that the Maxx design is out of touch and outdated, but I think the engineering is one of the best made R/C vehicles, and especially with all of the aftermarket upgrades and specialty parts that you can get for them.

Matt thank you for trying to think of everything with these chassis that you are reproducing for us. I know that I am grateful for your efforts on our behalf. Having the custom slipper plates along with the mods that you are making is just awesome for an already incredible setup. I am looking forward to getting mine and building it up for another high speed project, and I haven't even finished the first one yet (my SuperMaxx). Anyway thanks for doing this and keeping us up to date on the progress. These are boing to be incredible toys and on a limited production run. Way to go Matt.

chrismechanic 01.06.2009 01:27 PM

servo mount

hi alll...very nice truck. just an observation from an engineer, why make that clamp? you are putting the stress on the servo casing where it is not designed to mount on. why not just get a 5-6mm thick oblong of ally10-15mm bigger all round than the total size of the servo, mount that using the screws that are allready there (they may need to be longer) then cut out the centre of the oblong to the correct shape of the servo using the correct mounting holes.
i would gladly machine that out on my mill but i live in uk so bit far away

plettenbergs 01.06.2009 01:53 PM

the BS clamp has been eliminated....i totally redesigned the steering servo mounting position!!....it will fasten to the chassis with the normal 4 screws!!!...thanks,GOOD POINT!!...i was looking for a new clamp before i decided to produce the chassis!!:mdr:

ssspconcepts 02.02.2009 08:39 PM

Hey Plett...got a status report for us?

plettenbergs 02.03.2009 09:31 PM

the first 12 are sold and i am taking names for the second run!!!

JERRY2KONE 02.03.2009 11:06 PM

Thats great news Matt. Even though you are a first time CNC custom Maxx producer/reproducer you are doing better than some of the major players as far as timing and customer service goes. We are all (first 12) looking forward to making this purchase and begining our next projects/builds. I have some special equipment set a-side just for this one Maxler build. Since you did some custom changes on this one what are you going to name your new one off kit? Matt's Shark Maxx?? Anyway thanks for the update and for the special support you are providing to us. I for one personally look forward to build this truck and getting some great performance out of it. Way to go Matt.

George16 02.03.2009 11:14 PM

Matt, did you extend out the battery area too? I'm too lazy to re-read the whole thread.

plettenbergs 02.03.2009 11:37 PM

yes...1/2" on each side...total 1 inch wider

George16 02.03.2009 11:45 PM

That's really nice!!!!!!

Candyman2 02.06.2009 06:11 PM

thats a nice clean design there, good job Jerry2kone

I remember seeing it yeeeeeears ago but I thought it was a German lad that originally made it?

JERRY2KONE 02.06.2009 11:17 PM

Mis-reading.

I think you have misread the thread. I am not the one making this truck. Matt AKA "Plettenberg" is the RCM member who is doing this for us. He has the first 12 comming out soon. I am just one of the happy customers on the first run receiving one of his creation. (Lucky Me). I was just sharing my thoughts on his support by doing this for us.

Candyman2 02.07.2009 05:10 AM

oh right, sorry, I did misread your post. So Plettenberg, do tell, who made the original one?

George16 02.07.2009 06:31 AM

Emaxxler made the original years ago.

plettenbergs 02.07.2009 09:01 AM

i got it from him with intentions of reproduction!
it cost me apretty penny!
i have also made many major mods to the chassis!
