Got it all wired up tonight. With 12.72 gearing the "whatever" motors must have done 30mph in second... So I wired them in series, and the speed is better, but still a bit too fast.
I have a pair of integy 45t lathe motors... I will look at the specs and figure out if I can do the gearing... I also have an axi outrunner, 2826 size. Maybe I will try that too... |

Here is the info with the outrunner, anyone care to guess if an axi 2826/12 would work well with this heavy rig?

I don't understand.

The older lst tires have no voids on the treads, the newer aftershocj tires have a void in the large lug every other one. Here are the tires with the voids : http://www.horizonhobby.com/Products...rodID=LOSB7201 |

Got a few runs on it now, works well. It definately needs solid servo horns, and I think I will run steering on the center set of wheels too. I just got a pair of 1/4 scale servos for cheap, and will make a custom flat chassis for the rear so that I can use them there. I will stick to the jr 9000t for the front steering as space is limited and want to keep the stock chassis up front.
I broke 2 plastic driveshafts, but I do have 2 pairs of cvds coming so that should cure that problem. The series wiring of the motors sucks, it has good crawl speed but not enough torque. I think I will try the outrunner and see how it does. I already have it so no real cost, just need to change my wiring (again!) I would have pics but I had to box up my work pc and camera due to office cleaning, but I will have pics next week (promise) |
And again the waiting for pimp's pics. :na:
|
No time for pics, I scratch build a 2.2 crawler chassis today and got it rolling. Took some pics of that. I am also working on installing a pair of 1/4 scale servos in the 6x6. Sick of the weak servos that i am currently using, and have a pair of hitec digital 1/4 scale servos that I picked up for 30 bucks each... May have to trim the chassis a bit, but it will have killer steering then.
Also ordered my 32p pinions so it will be outrunner powered by the end of the week! |
sweet, what outrunner did you pick?

It is really COOL.. Linc did a great job.. http://i264.photobucket.com/albums/i...7/IMG_3943.jpg http://i264.photobucket.com/albums/i...7/IMG_3944.jpg http://i264.photobucket.com/albums/i...cpimpmovie.jpg |
That is really cool! Looks like it's fun to drive. No problems with steering I take it? All you need to do now is find a body that will fit. :oh: Might have to splice two together.

Any problems with stress on that center bulkhead?

See if you can do it without the RWS, that's kinda cheating as far as donuts go.

Does that 820 have more torque than both 550's? I'd believe it if you said so... If that works out then you'll have to put the second 820 on the front tranny to keep the balance.
|
I have a feeling it will be more powerful. 550 motors are good for about 250 watts maxx each. The dewalt is said to be able to do 1.5hp. Not sure if it will do that on 4s, but I have a feeling it will beat 500 watts easily, and make more torque too.
The rear tranny is just to hold the lower shaft. It does not have any gears or internals. I plan to cut the top off the tranny, just above the mount area, and place a flat plate over it to seal it up. To make this creation crawl better I will have all of the equipment on the front chassis. Only the rear servo will be on the back. With the lipos on the rear chassis it does not like to climb and break-over ledges as well as I would like. Shifting the weight to the front should help, but I doubt it will wheely... |
Pfffftt!! It wouldn't wheelie anyways and you know it! You could try putting weight in the front wheels as well.

I do plan to make a tsr style 6x6 with a bpp chassis and the rear wheels close together. It will have lst diffs and will be setup with 6s and a large motor, most likely a kb45 xl motor. (I have a few laying around). That truck will wheely, I promise!!! |
Remember that Bond movie....I think it was "Tomorrow Never Dies", where he made a semi truck wheelie, and the front end pivoted around the middle axle?? That's what I just pictured in my head when you mentioned that other project!

I'd like to edit myself- It was "License to Kill" that featured the semi-truck wheelie. I knew I was wrong, it just took 10 minutes of Googling to find the right answer.

Still working on the truck, should have some progress pics by midweek. Everyone (especially Neil) will be happy that the red chassis is gone...
Figured out how to fit the 1/4 scale servos in, took a bit of "trimming" to make them fit. I looked at possibly making a mount for the 3905 tranny and think it is possible. I will investigate that some more. I think the axi motor will go in with the current trans and we will see how it does... |
Don't know if have already seen this built here (not mine).

I still need to get my 6x6 finished, but work has been very busy. I will try to get some more work done this weeked. I do like the hummer bodies, might do that with mine... |
Update!
So here is the next incarnation of the 6x6! Now it has an axi 2826/12 760kv outrunner. Using 14/72 gearing and it seems to be about right. I think I will play with the gearing a bit to get it just right. Also check out the 1/4 scale front steering servo, plenty of power there. I also repaced the rear servo with a hitec 5997tg servo for added power. I have the aftershock wheels/tires, but I want to remove the front tires from the wheels and add some weight. Still a blast to play with, easily goes anywhere I want, even thru foot deep grass!
