Wow. Just wow. Why brushed for the basher maxx?
|
Just because.

Just because I have had the setup since I started building this Maxx, and I do not want to waste it. Why not?? Yea Yea I know BL is better and more efficiant, but this is paid for an it should be a lot of fun to play with. Some guys have done this setup and have had fun with it, so why not try it out? If I am not happy with it, or when I am tired of playing with it I will change it over to one of my BL setups. All in good time right? |
Very nice Jerry though the Integy crap is blinding my eyes preventing me to see hte real beauty of your builds :rofl:.

Replacement??

i think i remember you were asking around about the High Dollar Fioroni's once!!...nice trucks...are you using the stock lightweight aluminum output shaft in your trani's....i switched to a hardened steel TRAXXASS one and have had no more probs(so far)

I put all steel shafts in our tranny's and even removed the role pins and did the BrianG allen wrench mod as well. I am trying to keep up with all of the problems that have been posted up in RCM so I can avoid to much down time once I get these trucks rolling. That is the one area where I have been able to demonstrate patients in not rushing these builds, and making sure to do everything possible to make them "Bulletproof" in every way. The shocks are still an issue, but until I come accross a good alternative that is actually available and fairly priced they will just have to do. I have two sets of the MSR8 shocks built and ready to go so that should cover me for the time being. I also really don't care for the use of diff oil, so I am using "Aquacrafft" blue Speed grease instead as it seems to have some fairly stiff consistancy and resists the sling factor keeping the grease on the gears. The diffs and the tranny roll very smoothly without any resistance at all, and the diff operation itself seems to be pretty well setup for my liking. I am actually beginging to get pretty excited knowing how close play time is getting. My boys have been very patient with me, but they are anxious to see them run as well. Then we will start working on their trucks. With the "Pay it forward" donations last week we should have plenty of parts to draw from while building thier projects (two pretty much stock E-Maxx trucks). I figured this was a good place to start for them. I am sure that they will get the bug once they have their own trucks running. That will be fun fighting for time in the shop. Of course Dad has priority. Thanks guys for the comments, concerns, and supportive info. This is truly fun for me, and even the wife is getting excited, and we know that is a good thing:intello:. |
yes the allen key mod is a MUST!!
got any ULTRAMAXXED aluminum gears in the trani's? |
Quote:
|
Does that mean???

Does that mean you will add them to my list of purchases Chief? I have not found a set yet, but I have the RC4WD gears in all of my two speed trannys. They work just fine even if they are not of the same quality as the Ultramaxxed gears. |
i was lucky enough to get Bnighs last FOUR sets as back-ups!!with all my power some day i will need them, i am sure!!
they ALMOST never come up for sale!! I did sell one set to mohan though!:diablo: |

SMART MAN!..never sell the last set!
my CNC guy has one of my sets,NOW? |

Update 02/feb/09
OK so I have tried to squeeze in some shop time but it has not been easy. Since I will be starting a new job soon (working at home) the wife and I have been working hard on setting up a new office space. I have been building a custom desk and hutch for our tower PC and my newest toy (26"HDTV/PC monitor $340). Once that is done I plan on getting back to the R/C shop again.
Although I have managed to do a few things at night after everyone else goes to bed. I wanted to try something that I had not seen done before and maybe save a little money avoiding having to purchase expensive high end axles. With the massive size and weight that my metal trucks will be dragging around once they hit the dirt I wanted to make sure that I avoid unwanted simple breakdowns, so I have been putting as much thought into these build to create the beefiest drivetrain setup that I can possibly come up with. The standard 6mm stub axles have always been a weak spot and can break under tremendous strain. Plus I am using primarily Axial beadlock wheels in my builds now, so 17mm hex's are the norm for me. Anyway what I have done is purchase 4 = 8mm stub axles from the Firehammer truck for like $18. Then I drilled each one out to receive the CEN 17mm aluminum hex adapters & pins. Finally I cut off the threaded end of the shaft just where the shaft flat spot ends, so it has a good place to setscrew the 8mm HPI heavy duty cups to. Now I am waiting on a shipment of bearings to come in so I can adapt them to my Revo/Maxx knuckle/carriers. So now I have 8mm stub axles with 17mm wheel adapters, and man are these things solid & BEEFY. So now I am going to have four custom dogbones made by RCAlloys to use as my main/CVD axles. I know it may be a little impracticle, but it will stand up to just about anything for sure, and for the cost I believe that it will work better than most high priced alternatives. I am still working out the details for extending the suspension on my high speed Maxx project, but what I plan to do is stretch each set of arms by approx 1" by installing 7075-T6 stand-off adapters to each arm where the pillow balls attach. Then just having extended custom axles made for it. With the double monoblock installed, and adding two inches in width to the entire stup this thing should be very stable for doing 100mph or so. I guess pretty much like a 1/5 scale with a lot less weight overall. Once I get all of this worked out, then I have to work on producing an arodynamic body to prevent lift, and apply downforce to keep this thing on the road. The last detail will be picking the motor, ESC, batteries, and whatever other electronics I will need for it. It already has a 333oz in servo, and the Specrum receiver for control. Plus I need a cheap GPS, radar gun, and a good temp gun for testing. I am taking pics as I go so once I am ready I can do one of those (Shaun like) build threads and share all of the mods that I am making. |
Also
Oh yea and I forgot that I am doing the Mod suggested by Lito. I purchased some (12 = 18") 1/8" hardened steel push pins from Plastixx to make up custom hinge pins. The front set are already done and installed. I drilled & tapped out the 3mm setscrew holes on the RCM hybrid dulks to 4mm. The pewny 3mm setscrews stripp out too easily. Anyway I cut each hinge pin to a custom length, and placed a precise capture groove where the setscrew hits the pin, and that keeps them from comming out. No E or C clips here, and no worries that anything will come apart duing opperation either. It is my hope that this Mod will help prevent bent hinge pins, and having to fight to remove them. We shall see.
|
You'll like the captured hinge pin mod Jerry. I still have to bend any pins on my trucks, even with my son's driving or lack thereof .
Somany things to do with little time :neutral:. |
VERY nice collection! puts mine to shame...
|
Mods are fun.
You'll like the captured hinge pin mod Jerry.
Hey Lito yea I really like the way it all goes together and I cannot see myself breaking any of them in the near future. I even left the heads on one end so they only go in one way. Quote:

WOW jerry, i dont know how i missed the latest pics on page 3. That double-mono lightning sure is pretty :intello: And a nice collection of parts you got there, looking forward to more updates!

Thanks a bunch.

Truckin.
"Keep on Truckin" was an ICON when I was a kid in the 60's & 70's, and thats just what I am doing. Well it is Wednesday night here in Korea and the RCM-Maxx is finally completed. I just finished making new turnbuckles and setting up the steering so everything is done mechanically. I will try to test it out this weekend and put up some pics as well. I am waiting on a new body for it, which should be here by Friday, and I want to post up some nice photos of the finished product.
This thing is a real monster. Most of it is RCM Maxx stuff like the chassis, hybrid diffs, and Extended suspension arms. I am running the Revo axles and carriers for now with Axial beadlocks wheels, and muslcher tires installed so I can play in the dirt with it. I have done the "Lito" hardened steel hinge pin Mod, the BrianG allen wrench Mod on the input shaft/gears, home made 5mm allthread turnbuckles, MSR8 shocks, twin Dewalt 970 motor Mod, Novak super duty XR ESC, all metal tranny gears, modded RR double disc slipper 65t with 48t stainless steel pinion gears. I am using the TRX radio for testing to make sure that everything is ok, before switching over to the Spectrum DX3R and 3100 receiver. I still have to mount the wing, and trim the new body as soon as it arrives and get it installed. I will go easy out of the gate and use some 7.4v Nm batteries and work my way up from there. This week should be interesting, and hopefully I will have some good news to report after having a little bit of fun finally(Bar any problems). Wish me luck. Once this one is up and running I will be working on my UE SuperMaxx for the high speed project. 2009 is great. |
