I have a pm into the guy that makes or made them on lst forums . when i find something out i'll pass on the info . If you get his link you will have to drill out your bell crank's for the link to fit . It is thicker than stock .

lincpimp 12.29.2008 02:16 AM

Very useful info guys, many thanks to you rchippie, and have fun with the builds jj. Do you still have both trucks?

Hey Mike, do you have a bl lst, or is it still nitro? How many vehicles do you have?

Takedown 12.29.2008 02:35 AM

Linc, Im looking to order some 3/16 kydex. You think that would be thick enough to keep my batts rock solid in place?

jayjay283 12.29.2008 02:37 AM

Yes link I still have them both, kind of said I'd sell you that muggy but im a greedy girl and just hid it in my garage cabnets from the wife. 4 months later no way she will remember (yeah right) ..Ill just tell her I have 2 lsts, like she know what a transmission is.

Should be fine, the stuff I am using is thinner, and it works great...

Ha, I have a muggy already, found a steal on one a while back... I may sell it on, not sure if I want one right now.

Takedown 12.29.2008 02:52 AM

Ok sweet. I found a 15in x 15in 3/16in sheet on fleabay for $15 shipped. Looks to me like a great deal.

Man, this is a great tip. Never thought of kydex for this, but DUH, what a great application for it. I have a friend who is struggling with trying to make a battery tray for his LSP/Hyper/etc. I have access to a metal shop, so I make mine out of stainless, but he doesn't. This will be great stuff for him. Thanks!

Gotta say that your build looks really nice, and is also really well documented. If I didn't have a emaxx already, I'd be making a clone of what you got. Great work!

Unsullied_Spy 12.29.2008 10:16 AM

You should try the Kydex, it's much lighter than stainless steel and very durable. I got one of those Kydex trays with the CRT .5 I bought off Linc and it's good stuff. I've got a Kydex sheath for a sword and it has taken a beating and is still in good shape, I need to get my sister a car made out of this stuff

HAHA, if only you could do that! Kydex is a great product for making battery trays and other stuff...

James how did you here about this kydex stuff  ?.

Makes me wonder, if a tree falls in the forest, and lands on a vegan, does anyone really care?

Prince (or the artist formerly know as dumbass) needs to write a song about it "When trees cry..."

KaztheMinotaur 12.29.2008 07:05 PM

Maybe it will land on an emo kid also.

Linc, try emailing him at firemedic@gci.net, that is his paypal addy. I got one from him back in July, 12$ shipped.

Hey Linc, do you think a 20T pinion will reach the spur? I've got some plans for mine, and I really didn't think about that when I ordered the pinion. I'll have the 63T spur to go with it.

If not, looks like I have another order to make. =/

Not sure, I have a feeling the mount was designed with the use of stock gearing, so 25/63. I have a 24t pinion on right now, and it is about the smallest that will fit with the 63 spur. I have a 59t spur also, but the 24 will not reach it. I have a feeling that a 26t will reach the 59 spur, so I plan to buy some larger pinions from mike. Maybe a 25,26,and 27... Just need to sell some more stuff to boost my gaypal funds.

I figured you would like that Ian. Concering ebays recent practices of holding the money till feedbaclk is received... well that is kinda queer if you ask me...

BL_RV0 01.28.2009 11:21 AM

I agree. Maybe it's because of underage people like me that are slightly less honest.

Gurrrrrgggghghhhhhh. Well crap. I guess I have to order a 24T now. With my luck the 20T will get here today. I'm going to be running a 63T spur too, so if you feel you need to move that 63 TiNi, I might be able to help you out in that department.

Hmm, well I will take a look at the gearing for the other lst (I have 2) and get back to you. I would really like to run the 59t spur on this lst, as I want some more speed. The 63t may go on the other truck as I think 35 or so will be as fast as I want it to go.

Got some new front knuckles today from New Era. Very nicely made and packaged. They do need a little cleaning to remove some small al bits, but otherwise look great. Definately much stronger than the plastic stockers!

Unsullied_Spy 02.25.2009 05:11 PM

How much were the New Era knuckles? I got some for my Muggy from Golden Horizons for ~$24 and they've been holding up great so far. I know New Era makes some excellent stuff, but these GH pieces have been great so far.

Just don't forget the threadlock on your steering screws, they'll jostle out in a hurry without it.

Paid 27 + shipping, which was about 3 bucks. Everyone on the lst forums suggested them to me, so i went with them. I also needed some specific emaxx bulks and new era had them too. So I saved a bit on shipping...

That works. Those are a little cleaner than the GH ones, there was a bit of a seam on mine from the casting but that doesn't bother me.

lstforums.com seems like a good place for info. Plenty of nitro users that race, and a decent selection of electric guys too. Most are over here as well.

Updates!

Started working on adapting the muggy bellcrank servo saver steering setup to the lst. It is one of the things that I do not like about the lst, and countless fixes exist for the steering, but none actually address the design's short comings.

I have made decent progress and should have some picture ready material soon. This mod will require a new chassis plate to be made, as I will run a single servo, and it will not reside in the facotry mount holes.

I also plan to extend the chassis length 1.55 inches between the front bulk and the tranny. I arrived at this length as the front center driveshaft can be replaced with a lst1 wheel driveshaft. This will do 2 things, give me more room to mount the battery tray, and the added wheelbase will tame the wheelies a bit. Plus my current setup is slightly nose heavy, moving the lipo an inch back will help that too. And I get to use an off-the-shelf part, and I have about 8 of them.

It is a reasonably simple mod, but does require trimming the side braces and front top brace. This mod can be done with the stock length center driveshafts, but the brake and reverse servos may need to be moved around slightly.

Pics to come soon.

Hey James, what do you think would be a reasonable speed range to gear for in the LST2 using a CC Neu 2200 on 6s? I am looking at lowest to highest speed.

I just ordered the TDR motor mount then saw the 20t pinion I planned using may not work with the mount. So if I am stuck with the 25t pinion that puts me at 60 mph with the big joes that are on it. Do you think this is too much considering the weight of the truck?

_paralyzed_ 05.16.2009 03:37 PM

conventional wisdom would say thats too much speed for that heavy of a truck. but that system is in a savage and geared for 60mph, so it just may work. I say try it and check temps often. maybe we're all being too conservative:neutral:

TwzteD 05.16.2009 03:57 PM

i burt that kb up so i had to get rid of it!

TexasSP 05.16.2009 10:44 PM

Glad I could take it off your hands too. That was an excellent transaction.

I agree. I will keep my trusty temp gun with me to try it out. I really wanted to gear it around 50.

I may just put the 2.5d in there and see what it does as well. It show 45 which seems like it would be a stretch for that motor in that truck as well. Anyone know what the new savage flux weighs?

TwzteD 05.16.2009 10:56 PM

Thanks You Too!

DO you plan to run a 63t spur? I am using a 23t pinion right now and looks like I could go down to a 22t, maybe a 21. The 2200 on 6s will be a bit high to gear under 50mph with the 63t spur. You could try to use the 70t spur...

The lst can handle speed well. just make sure you have sway bars.

TexasSP 05.17.2009 12:08 AM

Thanks, I had thought the 63t was the biggest spur for the LST2. Although looking at the 70t spur it looks as though it will not work with the TDR single speed hub. I looked and realized the 22t pinion and 66t spur will put me right at 50. My main concern is not the speed as much as can the motor handle moving it.
