sorry to get off topic but

your answer is the tekin RS run an external bec and cap and they are great on 3s and 4s.....ive been running mine in my T4 and slash on multiple different motors (8.5 sensored-2s, 10.5 sensored 2and 3s, and feagio 9l - 2 and 3s) it is an amazing litte (actually tiny) ESC, ive enjoyed it so much in the past month i bought another last weekend  the tekin redline sensored motors are also great (had 8.5 on 2s geared for 40mph in a t4 and ran two 5000 packs back to back (40 solid mintues on the track) and the esc had 4 lights out of 7 and the motor was 141 :gasp:

So, if the SP ESC is basically the guts of the 80amp unit that RCM sells, where can you get the outer case? What exactly is different between the two?

You could get it from Schumacher, but if you look at the Speed Passion site, it's just an aluminum piece that was added on. It looks cool, but you don't need it since it will add more weight to what seems to be a bigger ESC then the Mamba Monster.

Hmm, I wonder if it has a good drag brake? I am guessing the hotwire interface would be required to set that? I am not all that up to date on the tekin stuff, maybe I need to do some reading!

The Tekin RS ESC's are very nice. They seem over engineered so they can handle more than what they are rated for. You should be able to change the drag brake settings without the hotwire.

Which esc can handle heat better? Same setup (speed, vehicle, motor, cell count... etc)different esc. Which esc will run cooler?

I have only used the SP Esc in a buggy so I have no data for MT use. Both Esc's run about the same heat in the buggy. Personally, I would recommend running 6S in a MT or Truggy so my vote goes to the MMM for this. The SP Esc should be fine if you plan to run a sensored 4S motor though.

yes the drag brake can be set VERY strong and easily by remote the only adjustment you MUST have the hotwire for is to adjust the timing and to put it in sensored only mode (if you need this) other wise it runs all sensored motors in dual drive mode.

again sorry for yapping about something off topic.

I have an FX-R and the programming works the same via remote as the other tekin ESC's. It is very simple to do and there is a set of LED's on the front of the ESC which make it quite simple to see where you are at in the programming. This is a very nice feature for sure. The drag brake for mine with a brushed motor is very nice.

You guys don't know what your talking about, especially starcream.

You don't know the meaning of power until you get your hands on one of these, and this is just the prototype.

I am chomping at the bit waiting for this to come out. I saw some spy shots of it at RCX but supposedly it was going to take a year to get to the masses. I like all of the moving parts and the non proportional throttle has me stoked! Plus that big heat shield is very sexy.
