The C50 14.4 Hacker motors are nice. Pops wheelies like nothing in my crt.5. Plenty of fun in my Rustler.
Having played with the C50 L Hacker and Plettenberg motor, I have to say that both are near identical in my GTP. The Tekno neu's that I have used have uber chassis twisting torque, but spools up a bit slower. |
Just wanted to let some people know. I saw a brand new Lehner 2250 Hi-amp motor on ebay today. Not sure what turn it is.
hope this helps.. :) |
as mentioned in my previous post i had a hacker that i hadnt tried yet that i finally got put in my buggy and i am very impressed. much more so that the lehner i tried.
i am wondering though. i have been hearing that if the load is too light that a motor will run hot. could it be that the reason my lehner ran hot was becuase the load was too small? i mean, i was running a lehner 2250 in a truggy. i thought this would be fine but i dont know. any thoughts? |
Ryu, I'd say the 2240 was not loaded properly if it ran hot. Those motors work well in 1/5, so a 1/8 truggy, unless you're doing speed runs, is a little on the light side. If you can get your hands on a 1950, with an appropriate kV, that would work much better. I had a Basic XL 2800 kV in my aluminum Rustler and it ran hot on 4s, even geared for 80mph. I didn't want to go any faster, though.

Back in the day I had a 1930-5/ 9 wind... Had it soldered for 9 Wind and ran 18 cells on it... it had no heat issues powering a 15Lb Maxx back then... |
yeah, it must have been just the setup. i didnt even realize it was the hi amp version either. i didnt know there was a hi amp and a regular at the time i bought it. i did like the build of the motor though. how where the wires extrude it is sealed off tight, unlike the neus. however, i wish they used a universal mounting pattern that was like the neus. anyway, i will have to try another lehner when i come across a good deal. i am always checking ebay.

OH well, the 80mm medusa has been working well, but the support for the Neus is a lot better, so that might be a better option. What an awesome motor tho. |
as previously posted i run neu in all my setups but have recently tried both lehner and hacker motors. i didnt really like the lehner (but may have been due to setup) and i loved the hacker motor....until 2 nights ago. during race night i was 4 minutes into my first race and i felt something really binding on my car so i pulled off the track and inspected things. it appeared to be in the center diff. but when i removed the motor it was apparent that the motor had failed. it would not rotate smoothly and had a grinding and notchy feel. i was compeltely pissed. needless to say i will only be buying Neu motors from now on. not sure what happened with the hacker. it ran cool, the load and gearing seemed good. i really loved it until it failed. i have put my Neus through much more abuse than this hacker saw and have never had a Neu have a single issue. anyway, just thought i would share.

My Hacker experience was the same, but my endbell came off as the bearings failed so rather than put it back together I shot it and bought a Neu. Been running the Neu for several months now and it's been incredible! No problems what-so-ever.

IDk, it can happen to the best of them. MY 1515 had its rotor seperate only after a few hrs of use. OTOH, it was easy and cheap to send to Neu, they fixed it for free and I had i back in two weeks. HArd to beat that service.
That Lehner would have been awesome, but a 1527 is not that much more than the BIN of $225 that the 2250 went for. However, if something ever did go wrong, the price diff would get eaten up quickly. I have a LMT 1920 that failed a yr ago I have to send back. Between customs, expensive shipping and no guarantees on the repair costs, I am having a hard time spending $20 to ship it to Ger just to find it needs $70 worth of repair. F' it, the medusa I replaced it with cost less than that. ('course they are out of business too now..... :( ) |
Great talks of Customer service is what made me buy the Neus I have as well... I'm sure if Lehner's were based here, their customer services would just be as good as Neu... Just too bad they're way across the Ocean..
