SO, back to the general lee.

Awhile back, I stripped the bolt on the pedal arms which required me to get a new crank. I got a nice redline brand crank with sealed bearing and all that stuff. I have the old shaft which is the right size, 3/4", and I need the threads gone. Is the best way to do this is take it to a machine shop and have them take it on a lathe?

This is my jackshaft where I need the threads off so it fits in my bearings. It is 3/4" around the ends on the hex part.

Just go buy a piece of rod at your local hardware store. Would be less expensive than having a machinist take the threads off of your shaft.

Make sure it's high carbon steel, don't cheap out now.

Maybe go to a machinist and ask him for some H.C. rod, he would probably have some scrap he would give to you for nothing.

It's time for an update!

I got a 3/4" threaded shaft. My bearings require a 20mm shaft, so I made some redneck bushings.

To mount the freewheel, I took a grinder to a nut that fit and shaft so the nut fit inside the freewheel. I'll jb weld it in there later. The nut won't move because I'll tigten it against another nut.

Yes, the pic is blurry and the chain will be on the opposite side. I might put it back over on the other side if this doesn't work out. I just have to get that damn wheel.

To mount the gear on the other side of the jackshaft, I found the original wheel that the freewheel was on from the scooter. The gear was attached to a freewheel then the rim, so I removed the freewheel and I can probably weld washers to it and then a nut to make it work. I just have to do it then take pics. :whip:

This is the major things on the to-do list:
Get rear rim
Get Chain
mount batts/motor
Mount the other gear on jackshaft
