Biggest one for me would be buying a Nitro t-maxx. I suppose. First and last nitro I will have. To much bull crap.
|
bought a CEN....
Then another one!!! What was I thinking |
My first real RC was a Tamiya Subaru Brat, then a Hornet. We're going back to the stick radio days.... '84-'86 ish, so electric performance wasn't all that and I thought I wanted a nitro. So I ended up getting an 8th scale .21 'buggy' from (think it was) Hobby Shack. And a hot new Futaba Attack(!) 2 channel AM superdeluxe stick radio.
I was the SH!T Until I figured out what a piece of crap I just spent like 6 bills on. In 1986 dollar$..... Untuneable, clutch was garbage, brakes not even worth mentioning, and when it did run "right" it was uncontrollable. Sold it soon thereafter and decided the Tamiyas were still tough to beat, 3 step mechanical ESC with reverse baby! Fast forward to 2006, just got my V1 Mute done and ready to try the sky. So I got a Venom Night Ranger 3D! Yeaaaaah. I should have known it would have much in common with Night Ranger, the 80s band. Unflyable Walkera knock-off turd never-parts-in-stock POS wallet emptier. So helis + me = :diablo: Not one to give up easily, I thought, "maybe a plane?" I got a Diablo. I forget who makes it, I don't care. The emphasis needs to be put on the last 3 letters of that name. Total crap. Brushed EDF. Then bought a BL ESC, and a stupid high kv inrunner. Just crashed faster and harder. Not to mention the thing sounded like a pissed-off Shop Vac. Yeah, neighbors are gonna love this.... I was almost done with planes... until I got my Super Cub. I still suck at flying, but at least the damn thing crashes in the last direction I left it in and I have some hope now..... some. And what a blast making these things stupidly overpowered. I am running a CC T-bird 54, 25C packs and a 1320 kv outrunner which is good for a theoretical 17,000 rpm.... in a 30 ounce plane. I'm not sure if the younger guys can really appreciate how far things have come, but us codgers sure do. Used to be the stuff of RC dreams. I have two real good ones, I'll post later... |

another big mistake i had was when I just got my brand new RC-Monster 2s2p 5200mah 28c lipos. these were amazing! and $100 a piece. I wanted to run my hyper 7 with them so badly(this was an upgrade from a protek 4s,4000mah 20c) even though I didnt have a battery tray yet.(I'd velcro my lipo on.) so I taped the batteries together, velcroed it down, and started bashing in my school's parking lot. it was 15 degrees out, so I dont know what caused me to check for temperatures, but i did. sure enough, my lipos moved, and the spur started eating at them. It didnt eat through the case, but if it had moved just another mm closer it would have.
Many months later, my MMM detonated, taking out those $200 in batteries too. Now I won't buy anything but cheap lipos. I got a pair of 2s 28c 5000mAh neuenergy lipos off of entjoles for $50, and everything else is zippy powered. |

Remember this mike... http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s...E/PICT0003.jpg http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s...E/PICT0002.jpg Oh the joy of running in sub freezing weather in a school parking lot before robotics... plastic doesnt like to flex at those temperatures.. |
About 3 weeks ago, my buddy is coming in for a landing with his Cub, it's dusk, so perception is getting difficult. I have a massive field behind me with just fairly thin treelines. I look away a minute and hear "AW MFer!!!" I turned around and the plane is nowhere in sight. "You DIDN'T!"
Yeah, treed it. On one of the neighbor's property. So we made our way back to the tree, good 200 yards out. We get up to the bunch of trees, and it's hard to even tell which tree the plane is in. And it's about 20 minutes until sunset. "We can't leave the lipo in the tree, there's nothing to climb.....WTF!" So the owner rolls up on his quad and scopes out the situation, was very cool about it. In fact he offered to cut the tree down! We mulled it over a minute, and all decided it was the only way. He comes back with a logger's chainsaw, I said "you sure you're alright with this?" He was, and had to cut another smaller tree down to make way for the taller one! I still wasn't convinced he was cutting the right tree and it was getting dark fast. So he made a notch cut and dropped a 60+ foot tree with a SuperCub on top like he'd done it every day of his life.. and the plane floated off where it was stuck and hit the ground totally undamaged! How do you guys like to meet your neighbors? |
WOW, Awesome happy ending and a way cool neighbor. Most neighbors suck ?

And for the best one. This was just Saturday, decided to get some lake flyover on video. My friend's using my FlyCam because his is glitching, so we go to a point down the road to launch. Nice little flight, some higher altitude, some lower and lands no problem. Got a boat and a waverunner from overhead, kinda cool. So I asked him if he was going up again, said he brought 2 packs, so yeah.
About 2 minutes into flight #2 he says "something isn't right" but didn't seem too concerned, he has a DX7 with JR digitals and a good speeder and motor.... and is a good pilot. He turns it and tries for an approach, and came up only about 50 feet short. Words for the wise, if you are going to do a water flyover with a plane not equipped with floats, make sure both of your packs are charged. And guess what the only victim was in this? My beloved FlyCam! He f*cks up, I PAY. :whip::lol: BTW, if it looks like he's pointing at the plane there, he isn't |
here is mine starts out great end sad:gasp:

my mom bought me a used H7 PBS version for my Bday 2 years ago, it was the BEST birthday present EVER... at that time...
went down to the LHS and bought everything needed to run it, fuel, plugs, igniter, tools, etc. never once did they mention anything about a failsafe:gasp: needless to say, I found an open field with power lines runing accros it, my first tank of fuel and I had a big @$$ smile on my face, then horror struck when I tryed to stop:diablo: I had my mom in tears when I came in with 2 seporate buggys:whip: the only thing I have left of the buggy is the front inner hingpin. that is my "good" luck charm its a 5mm pin http://i272.photobucket.com/albums/j...c/IMGP4579.jpg |
Wow, that's a big hinge pin..
|
That's what she said...
|
Ummm, hinge pin?
|
Lots of good stories guys, keep em coming! Don't really have any good ones myself, but don't worry, I'll ruin something soon enough.
|
Haha, I see what you did there simple!
 I guess hinge pin isn't much of a...... interesting that's what she said joke eh? Or is it just me. |
It's just you.
Another of mine- spending $500 on a engine, conversion, pipe, new bumpers and such for my tmaxx pro .15, without upgrading anything in the drivetrain. And the engine never started... :oh: And this was a cen .46 engine... |
I remembered a blunder from years ago. I bought the first Generation LST when they were first released. I bought a aluminum antenna mount because the antenna tube kept slipping out of the RX box. The wire coating chafed thru and grounded on the aluminum mount and had my first run away at W.O.T . The truck blasted into a dumpster at 40+MPH head on. The damage consisted of every control arm broken, front bulk grenaded, front shocks mangled, body destroyed, crushed rims and torn front tires and more. That was 5 yrs ago ? Have ben very fortunate since.
|
I bought a nice SMC 4000 MaH 28c 2s pack for my xxxtcr racer. I was in a hurry and throw the battery in. I get through about 4 minutes of the race then after a jump my car started to smoke. I forgot to dremel a notch in the side for the battery. The battery was a 100% loss:diablo:.

blowing out the bubbles in tire glue, got too close and some dried on my tongue

-i got a couple, first taken my boat out to the lake and i had some new 3800 fusion batts and they were setting next to me on my bench seat in the truck, i started to hear a hiss like something was leaking, drove a little further and saw some smoke from the batteries (parked at a stop sign) a look over at the batts and one cell exploded and i was scrambling to get out of the truck with my seat belt still on , i must of looked crazy from the car behind me
the batts were touching pos to neg for a couple minutes, is that why they called them fusion batteries? -lets see not to long ago hooked up my 6s controller to 8s close call but still works - my boat took a dive and could not find it till next morning, only a bout an inch of yellow boat was sticking out of the water pretty far out - smoked my brothers evx esc by cutting both of connectors off and soldering new deans... yeah should have done them one at a time, and caught a batt on fire in the process i created a dead short, dont be in a hurry kids take your time and be safe |

Hitting a tree doing 35ish in mid air with a nitro pede ending in the result of cracking the pro.15's block and smashing the fins. Chassis got raped to. Another good one was when i hit my friends foot with my speed rustler. was doin about 50mph and just barely clipped his leg which ripped the arm off the rustler and sent it into a barrel roll of death. "peices flying everywhere".

This is the best thread ever...
|
Running my b4 on 2s lipo up and down the drive way- slick tires got cold and it went into the garage door at 30mph or so. you can see the imprint of the upper shock caps and bumper in the door.

The super glue or whatever they try to call it for $4 more. Lucias bought a truck from me last week, I think my finger print it still on the right front tire. 2 hours I waited for my wife to get home from walgreens with some nail polish remover, watching CSI with a tire stuck to me for 2 hours. Good luck using that finger print for anything though probably get the 8:am I want my money call. I could use some of that skin back if you have an exacto knife and a few minutes |
Quote:
LOLOL :rofl::rofl: Your wife takes 2 hours to get to walgreens and back? Or was she at work... That sucks... |
yeah at work, had wait for her to get off work with the goods, 15% discount LOL. I mess myself up alot 1 month ago I posted pics of me after I bashed my eye all up. She was at work then too and took 2 hours to take me to get stitched up at the hospital. Im sure ill do something else stupid before summer ends
|
Haha, I saw the eye, wow, sombody's clumsy..

little rustler could outpace my kia like it was standing still |
Not to mention, my Rustler, was in that video!
Boy, this rustler should be in the Hall of Stupidty of Mike and Ben! (No offense:lol:) It's a beast though...... I guess my blunder, was when I was resting my hands on the back of my Rustler tires, for a little to long, I had a mark on my hands, and I just couldn't get the flat spot off the tire.... I actually drilled a few holes in the sidewall..... Then I tried to get the flat spot out, again, by just pressing, and little did I know, it actually came out... Now I have a few gashes in my tires.... :oh: |
A few weeks ago, I was attending my first race at a new track with my 8ight-e. I had been practicing at said track for about 2-3 hrs and felt pretty good about it. I was putting down some good laptimes imo and not really crashing.
Well, the first qualifier comes around, and I am doing a few practices laps/getting my transponder in the system. The last half lap before we line up to race, I hit the big triple in front of the of the drivers stand. (Side note: when I say in front of the driver's stand, you literally could touch the cars if they hit the jump at the closest approach.) I hit the jump at a weird angle and smash my buggy straight into the wooden stairs leading to the track. Needless to say, the deceleration was brutual..lol. I broke my front bulkhead mounts and bent the crap out of my front shock tower, right before my first qualifier. Doh! The announcer made a wincing comment, and later on, the people in the enclosed shop 100ft away said they heard it! Pretty embarrassing. Luckily, i was able to compete in the second qual and get 3rd in the main via some handy ziptie placement and CA glue :) |
bump!

Bullet connectors are cheap, can handle a lot of current, and are easy to use. They are, however, very easy to short.. :eyes:
And that is why as of today there are less bullet connectors on my e-bike and more andersons. http://i345.photobucket.com/albums/p...1/S7302296.jpg |
