Hey Daf,
Your trucks are always impressive. This one looks great.
That is quite a rear dog bone you got there. :027: Where'd you find it?

Dafni 02.16.2006 06:55 PM

Thank you.

Mike got the dogbones for me. Apparently they stem from the same place as the ones he got for the G2R kits.

maxxdude1234 02.16.2006 07:08 PM

I'm guessing that driveshaft came from rcalloys. I've got one of their driveshafts on the rear side of my tranny (sounds a bit dodgy....), and let me tell you: if there was one thing on my truck that I knew would never break, it would be that driveshaft. Its nearly 8mm thick!

boss 302 02.16.2006 07:27 PM

nice truck daf you always amaze me with your designs evrything is nice and low on that truck. keep up the good work!!!

rchippie 02.22.2006 11:50 PM

Dafni your DVO 2 (as i call it looks great) .

Cadtech 02.23.2006 10:05 AM

My first post here - I've been looking to start another project, decided to do a BL conversion on a Revo, and found this place. I do alot of custom machine work on my own projects, but I must say Dafni, I'm impressed with your machine work. Very clean and simple.

A vew questions: I don't know much about center diffs vs. shifting trannys - the Ofna diff you show; does it use a slipper clutch of any sort? Is this just a direct drive (no gearing reduction)? If so, I assume all the gearing is accomplished with varying spur/pinions?

I was going to go the e-maxx tranny route, but definately like the looks of the center diff instead!

Dafni 02.23.2006 10:28 AM

Thank you Hippie!

And thank you too, Cadtech. And welcome to the forum, nice to have you here.
Well, those 1/8 buggy diffs have no slipper, unfortunately. The lack of a slipper is a downside, but I hope it just works. Some other people have used this kind of diff setup without problems.
You are right, this is a direct drive setup. The front/rear diffs offer some reduction, of course, as well as the center diff with its big spur. The pinion on the motor is the only place that let's you change gearing reasonably.
With a center diff truck, compared to a tranny, you need to select a different motor. Just calculate your overall reduction and choose a motor that gives you the desired speed at your particular voltage.

I guess you have seen my first Revo with the E tranny. This was done over one year ago, and I have learned alot about BL and RC since then.

Cadtech, how about showing some of your work? I always enjoy to see custom RC stuff.

Cheers
DAF

Cadtech 02.23.2006 03:47 PM

Thanks for the welcome, and the primer on diffs.

Lack of a slipper is a concern - but hopefully the diff-action from the center and ends would save the driveline. Although I imagine the Revo driveline is fairly bulletproof anyway (suppose axles are about the weakest link, eh?).

Without hijaacking you post with my pics, I'll point you to my webshots page:
GP-Maxx - a gasoline powered Maxx:

This album shows some of my other things (bl rusty, stampede, etc.); also have a bl Losi XXX4 (machined custom cf towers for that) as well as large scale gasoline powered boats I machine alot of parts for that aren't shown.

Dafni 02.23.2006 04:35 PM

You're welcome. And don't worry about hijacking, I myself are a wanted hijacker, gotta hide out in the woods. I guess they had put a reward on my head.

Thanks for sharing your pictures. I can see a BL revo would fit right in.

Yeah, the slipper is a concern, indeed. But, as you said, the center diff will be a bit of an insurance, and I think I have a well controlled throttle finger.
The weak link, for acute impacts, will be the rear diff I suppose. And for wear over time, the weak part might be the yokes. Just my opinion, only time will tell.

Sylvester 02.23.2006 04:37 PM

Have you put together any more of this beuty? If so, please do show :) :004: :004:

Dafni 02.23.2006 04:42 PM

Working on it as we speak :) Just put the file down to type this.
It will soon be finished, and I make sure to post some pics.

If only those days could have a few extra hours....gotta go to bed soon, but I hope I can get some work done over the weekend.

Thank you for your interest, Sylvester.

Sylvester 02.23.2006 04:47 PM

Good to hear:) If you dont mind me asking, what shock setup are you running? (spring/oil combination). What do think or want the weight of this G3R to be?

Dafni 02.23.2006 04:59 PM

No, I don't mind you asking, not at all. But I really can't say much about the weight yet. I expect it to be low, it will be my first Lipo truck. The motor is heavy, though. 360g for a 1950. Let's see. I'll give you the exact number when I'm done.

As for shocks, well, I have more than a year experience on my first BL Revo, and I would guess on the G3R 50 or 60wt oil and stock pistons would be fine. The springs on this one will only be one step apart I figure (weight bias will be different as on a stock chassis). I guess something like tan front and gold rear, or one step more or less depending on track.
BTW, on my first Revo I run the LT rockers, and I love it for "brawling" (bash-crawling :) )

boss 302 02.23.2006 09:39 PM

sounds good DAF cant wait to see the updated pics

coolhandcountry 02.23.2006 10:08 PM

Yeah dafni has some good ideas in that head of his. If I could just get over there to get some of them. :D Oh well. I have to stay here and read about them i guess.

boss 302 02.23.2006 11:19 PM

hey if dafni comes over to the get-together you can get them then chc

CrazyPhantom 02.24.2006 06:50 PM

JThiessen 02.26.2006 03:56 PM

Nice work Dafni. A question regarding a statemen you made early in the thread -
Quote:

Yeah, and when the bulkless becomes available
What are you referring to? are you talking bulkless diff's? Thanks.

squeeforever 02.26.2006 04:06 PM

yes, fastlane machine is working on a bulkless differencial system for the revo with 8th scale diffs.

Rcbros 02.26.2006 04:36 PM

indeed they are. Along with the other 100 things Jamie is doing lol.

Dafini has inspired me to think about putting a few toys on ebay lol. But I still need a basher truck :013:

Dafni 03.07.2006 07:06 AM

Here's another pic. Almost finished, only some minor things left to do.
Still need a motor brace, and some other small things.
For a street test, it would be ready to go!

coolhandcountry 03.07.2006 07:51 AM

I am waiting for the test drive and a video. I know it will come dafni. I just like to see it in action.

nl12 03.07.2006 07:52 AM

Awesome, you are very talented.

Dafni 03.07.2006 08:46 AM

CHC, expect my report soon!
A video will be tricky for me, though. I have no camera. I keep on looking for a filmer/editor for a while now.
I hope I'll find a guy with a camera one day!

Thank you, nl12

MaxxFusion 03.07.2006 09:03 AM

Well here is a thought. I just bought my wife Fujifilm F10 digital camera.

It takes some great video too. This may be the perfect solution for you.

Just get one or two of OLYMPUS TYPE H 1GB xD-Picture Flash Media

JThiessen 03.07.2006 01:27 PM

I've tried video with my Canon ZL-1. It does great with fairly still or slower motion, but with thte speed of the RC's, all I get are temporary pics followed by blurs.

MaxxFusion 03.07.2006 01:29 PM

Good point. I havent tried to film my rc.

coolhandcountry 03.07.2006 01:40 PM

I have taken a few videos with mine. It is not as good of quality as a camera but does get a video.

Don't sweat it daniel. It is all good mate.

maxxdude1234 03.07.2006 01:52 PM

That things a beat Dafni. Can't wait to see it finished!

Dafni 03.07.2006 02:45 PM

Tere won't be much visible changes, maxxdude. It's pretty much in its final form in the pic, all wired up and ready to go, even the batts are pluged in :)

Just needs some minor reinforcements.

Sylvester 03.07.2006 03:34 PM

PLEASE tell us how she runs! i bet your wiring is cleaner than my mouth lol!

boss 302 03.07.2006 03:35 PM
