Thats exactly what those two holes on the RR knuckles are for . Here are the rest of the build pics for those that are interested . The tires are proline calibers, in m3 compound .

Guys after reading about the ve8 chassis breaking up Fr & looking at mine that i just built . I think i may have come up with a idea to help strengthen the FR end . This is the idea i came up with . I was thinking 2mm or 3mm aluminum would work fine. Right know it's just masking tape to show what it would look like . It would double as a brace & skid pad . As you can see it would cover the seem were the FR plate & chassis are connected . The black line is there just to show were the slight bend would be . I would like to know what everyone's thoughts are on my idea ?.

I imagine those would make it stronger.

an interesting point about plastic chassis for 1/8 scale is the new traxxas slash 4x4. it is not 1/10 scale. wheel base and width lines up perfectlly with my 808. curious to see how that chassis holds up on the outdoor track this summer.

Here are some pics of a rough protopype skid/brace i made today .

bdebde 01.01.2010 07:03 PM

There have been at least 5 Ve8's at the local track, including mine; 4 of those 5 have all broke the rear skid, including mine, and never a single front. I got the aluminum skids for mine; much better than the plastic ones. But, your idea would certainly beef up the front end! IMO just get the aluminum upgrade ones when the plastic ones break.

I dont know about the nitro buggy . But the VE8 is 17 1/2 long . Thats from tire to tire . It might look longer because the body is flatter the the nitro buggy body's.

bdebde 01.07.2010 03:44 AM

The wheelbase is like 1mm longer than the D8, it looks longer because it is so narrow.

FastXR 01.07.2010 08:30 PM

As promised here are the pictures of my new Ve8.

Its sans esc (mmp) which as soon as they are back in stock I will be ordering one. Kokam 6s 4000 lipo (should give me enough run time to do a 20 min main), shown with Medusa 1600 kv motor for test fit (will be getting Tekin T8 1400kv). ACE steering servo.

The body was painted by my brother, it came out pretty darn good for his first attempt I think.

Yup it sure was, previously he had been hand painting bodies so I found a used airbrush setup for him with compressor and even some paint and gave it to him and thats what he painted me as a Christmas present. It looks better than the pictures show too. He's doing a body for my truggy next.

I love the Duracell too, thats a great idea!

That paint job is AWSOME :gasp:.

Bondonutz 01.08.2010 09:11 PM

YES, The Duracell is KEENO ! Somthing so obvious but never thought of ?

rchippie 01.08.2010 10:37 PM

Thats a really nice looking lid . How much did you have to extend the wires by,also did you use plugs or did you sloder wire to wire ?.

Frank H 01.08.2010 10:52 PM

Thanks! Painted it myself.

The stock motor wires ALMOST reached, but I cut them much shorter so there wouldnt be too much slack from the wires that came with the esc (I had a spare MMM esc that came with ~3 inch wires with 6mm connectors pre-installed.) I soldered wire to wire.

My motor wires are full length how much would you suggest adding ?. I'm asking because i have'nt taken my motor out of my ERT yet to find out . I may just end up getting another system . so i dont want to cut any wires yet .

big greg 01.08.2010 11:13 PM

that duracell body is the shiznit! what are you geared with the 1400 on 6s?

Frank H 01.08.2010 11:14 PM

seriously only needed a half inch. If I would have propped my esc on a spacer or something, I wouldnt have needed any additional wire.

Cool I will make up 3 jumpers about 1 1/2 - 2 long with a new esc side plug on them, to have them ready for when i mount the motor . Then i will trim them to the proper length when i solder the wires together . Im bored & looking for something to do .

big greg 01.09.2010 12:14 AM

have you not drove it yet hippie?

No SIR i have not driven it yet . Im still trying to decide if i want to take the servo & MMM/combo from my truggy or buy another system . Either way i still need another servo for the mechanical brakes .

big greg 01.09.2010 07:31 AM

im still trying to decide if i wanna run mech. brakes, everything gets here monday for mine, it will be like christmas lol, car/ batteries/ motor, and a few other odds and ends, i even bought a new power screwdriver to put it together!

Frank H 01.09.2010 10:56 AM

The mechanical brakes was the main reason I wanted ve8. That and the d8 suspension is just awesome. Go mechanical brakes!

Marvin 01.09.2010 12:10 PM

I'm running 18/50 gearing, but would like to get my slipperential in there - problem is it rubs on the motor plate, even with a load of grinding (with the 48 spur - the 52 won't fit in at all). I'll have to see if Mike could do me a special 50T slipperential spur.

Thanks for the comments on the body, one of the guys at the track I race at jokingly said that my car ran on AAs, so I though 'aha - Duracell, maybe they'll stop picking it up when marshalling thinking it has cut.'

The copper colour was a little hard to find though. It's brushed on (as in hand painted - I don't have enough money, time or talent for an airbrush, but I could always hand-paint well).

Here are some pics of the battery mounted with the spacers i made to prevent the lipo from sliding in either direction. There is no vecro underneath the lipo & it does not move at all .

Strap mod

I modded one of the velcro straps. This will make it eaiser to get the lipo in & out of the car . Plus i it will be more secure . I have to get another strap to do the other one .

You will need it when it comes to the diffs, the screws are very long and get pretty hard to turn.
