But that's probably not why the rear shaft snapped; that's probably caused by the greater traction of those paddles. CVDs would help that a lot. I've never been a fan of the smaller slider shafts; they are just too weak to handle serious power IMO.

No center diff, the thing would be useless with only rear paddles and a center diff. Can you say Front Wheel Drive? I was aware of the issues with different tire diameters, but I figured it wouldn't matter much in the soft sand. I mean worse case, the truck has to spin the fronts a bit faster, which shouldn't be too hard. You should have seen the truck after the back end broke. I tried driving it as a front wheel drive for a minute. Hilarious...

Here is what I have done so far.I have tried it on 4s and its awesome.WOT is not advised!I have been driving it on 2s and it is a blast.I plan to put in a alloy Motor mount and swaybars.Checked my diffs and shimmed when needed.Shimmed the axels behind the hex adapter, tightened all loose screws. The radio box does crowd the steering servo wire though.I will end up notching it.

ClodMaxx 02.24.2010 11:34 AM

has anyone heard a date yet for cvd's?

Shark413 02.24.2010 06:17 PM

In case you missed it here is a thread I posted on the Traxxas forum.

It won't make your truck faster or stronger but this optional Traxxas part is very cool. It is the optional clear gear cover and besides looking cool, it allows you to see if there are rocks, dirt, etc. in your pinion/spur gears. I have sealed both ends of the driveline (heat shrink on the driveshaft, plugged the water drain holes and the foam plug for the diff hole but still dirt, sand and rocks get into the gears. Now I can take a quick look and see if I need to get in there and clean out the junk.

FLM has 4X4 specific CVD's availible now. Slash 2x4 cvd's can be adapted if you grind the diff cups down to prevent binding when the suspension is fully extended. Traxxas hasn't announced the release date of theirs yet, that I've heard anyway.

WOW, a hundred beans for F&R, at least they have the lifetime garuantee.

I think I would go with the Tekno kit personally...

ClodMaxx 02.24.2010 08:56 PM

thanks squee.... didn't even know tekno made a kit until now. so far, the FLM kit is only for the rear.

i'll go with tekno's when they become available...although i doubt they'll be much cheaper than FLM's. man, all cvd's are probably the 3rd most expensive thing after a motor and esc.

No problem man...I've been thinkin on getting a Slash 4x4 myself, so I've been doing my homework.

kazuaki 02.24.2010 09:13 PM

I just checked out the Tekno kit. It steps up to 6mm stub axles and bigger bearings. Of course, this means the kit includes new hub carriers and steering blocks. I bet it is gonna be pricey. I think it will be worth the wait though.

ClodMaxx 02.24.2010 09:32 PM

crap. you're right. well, so much for 1/2-3/4 of my aluminum PE bling, lol

kazuaki 02.24.2010 09:35 PM

Yeah, but just seeing what they have planned, this is on my must have list.

ClodMaxx 02.25.2010 01:31 PM

agreed. my old UE supermaxx had the same design - the thing was bulletproof. definitely over-engineered for strength. i'm just worried about the potential huge price tag due to the kit. i just got on the mailing list to be notified when they're in stock....we'll see.

skellyo 02.25.2010 02:04 PM

Ok, so I'm officially obsessed with these things. I have a 3rd that should be on the way shortly.

ClodMaxx 02.25.2010 03:39 PM

:yipi:

you didn't happen to snag the other one on RCG, did you? if so, you got deal of the year. i got 2nd place.

Reading comprehension is key here Bondo...he said spur, not pinion. Mike doesn't sell any steel spurs for the Slash.

Bondonutz 02.27.2010 09:14 PM

Eh, I'm sick. Who cares.

I'm using mod1 spur gears made for the Tmaxx. They bolt right up to our slipper. The one in the picture is part of a Robinson Racing kit (RRP8644) that includes an 18t clutch bell and 44t spur. The 44t mod1 spur is the absolute largest that will fit. It is just slightly larger than the stock spur gear and is super close to the chassis. A cheaper alternative is a 42t mod1 steel spur that Hot Racing makes (SRVO442). I wanted the largest spur that would fit to allow more room for the big motor, plus I am hoping the RRP gear will hold up better.

Can a 100A rated 5000 4s 20c battery run in a lighter vehicle like the 4x4 Slash with a MMM/1512/2D setup.I know CC says 120A setup

They were in stock at http://www.teamgonads.com/. They actually ran out late last week and already got their 2nd shipment yesterday, which is when mine were sent out.

reno911 03.08.2010 02:31 AM

Where can I get a set of these losi 8ight shock plates? Or should I be asking who would like to make me a set? The losi shocks are what I wish to run and this would be a perfect addition to my 4x4.

Slash in the sand

So, I'm out in the sand dunes (Glamis, CA) this weekend. Had to snap a few pics of the Slash 4x4. This truck is a blast out here.

nice truck! sand.... eeeeesh. looks like your slash could really benefit from this that i just found today - although temps would be highly suspect.

Is pic number 1 and 2 the same ?

Who makes the liner that covers the inside if the chassis ?

Yeah, I fixed the pics, so they are all different now. You'll have to cut me some slack, I'm connecting via a cellular card from the middle of the sand dunes. There's no 3G out here, so this is like a 32k connection or something :) I just got some videos with the camera on a tripod, but no way I'm uploading those on this connection.

kazuaki 03.12.2010 09:09 PM

That is a JConcepts chassis cover. I have that on my Slash actually. Mine is clear, so you can't see it in the pics. On my last pack, I made a bunch of speed runs. It got pretty hot, much hotter than I would like. I'm sure the cover is to blame for a lot of that. I know the extra drag of the sand puts a lot of load on things, but running 3S on this setup (MMM/2650) shouldn't be an issue.

phatmonk 03.20.2010 12:56 PM

Hey guys beware of the aftermarket motormounts that are cut out around the driveshaft bearing.I got a small rock stuck between the spurgear and rear bulkhead it wore a small grove in the spur.Fortunatly I heard it right away but the gear should be replaced.I am gonna take the mount off a fill that opening with epoxy resin.
