Just tried it again...It goes to the 24mm hex hubs...

I'm curious, how did you set up the body? Does it hold?

thzero 04.18.2011 02:18 PM

The "wide track conversion" is nothing but the HPI 86249 Super Heavy Duty Wide Axles Savage XL axles.

rckcrwlr 04.18.2011 02:19 PM

I have one body post on the top of the radio box and then mounted a short post on top of each battery box.

It works great.

Could you snap a picture or 2 of how you did it exactly? :)

Nick,
You'll love it. I just ordered paddles all around for my trip to the dunes of MI.

Can't wait. Only issue I had was my slipper burning up. Fixed that with a set-up from Kershaw Designs.

NickRummy 06.21.2011 03:46 PM

Nice! Are you using a steel spur or plastic? Are you still running the stock flux motor? I just posted a thread with my project.

rckcrwlr 06.21.2011 03:47 PM

Here you go...

Working with my buddy Dan from Kershaw Designs, he hooked me up with a Slipper bearing set up that is designed for high voltage RC's.

http://i778.photobucket.com/albums/y...B/IMAG0307.jpg

http://i778.photobucket.com/albums/y...B/IMAG0308.jpg

The set up is two washers with bearing in between. The key to the design is the concave washers on the outside that keep constant resistance on the bearings and nut.

I took it for a quick run last night and she is alive.

Steel spur and stock motor. Haven't had issues with heat. I see you are running wider tires. I'm running 5B Trenchers. The tread is harder and narrower but they are heavier than what you are running.

thzero 06.21.2011 03:53 PM

Yeah I run (or ran) the same KD thingamabob... just cinched it down tight.

Actually, that's just what came on the roller I got. I'm using the 5SC wheels and tires. Got halfway through putting them together on lunch break today. I'm hoping today to have the wheels and tires mounted on the roller so I can get an idea of track width.

You are going to need the 24mm hex adapters for the Baja Wheels...

Got em sitting on my desk. Question is, do I need to get XL stubs.....

Those are good, but they suck because of Savage axle design. Nick knows about my solution, since he did them for me, so I would highly suggest that. Yes you lose a tad bit of width, but its a much studier solution (I posted it in my thread about my 5T here at RCM). I went through at least four axles where I busted it at the end of the threads; rather expensive.

Oh crap, is this Chris?! How's it going man! I'm hoping to work on a newer design that'll give me more width......

thzero 06.21.2011 04:16 PM

Yes, and do my customization using the BAJA 24mm hex hubs that came with the 5SC.

Haven't had issues with mine yet...must not be beating it hard enough.

Ya; it goes ok. More width would be good, but as they were they certainly worked much better than just 23mm or 24mm hubs for the Savage.

But speaking of, I'd still like to know what it'd be to do up a set of 24mm hubs for my RC8T. ;)

Problem is I'd have to get the rears. I'll definitely keep it in mind though.

rckcrwlr 01.11.2012 09:50 AM

I was testing some motors for a vendor so I go the Flux 5B out.

Ran different combos and had it dialed in...then..................... it stopped....

Got to finally get it apart and found this rattle can

Opened it up to find this...

Oh, there they are.

Here's the failed parts. Surprisingly there was no other damage.

Thanks...I just wasn't sure if the gears were supposed to look like that...

Ordered the upgraded gears. Then back to having fun...

coolhandcountry 01.11.2012 12:17 PM

Only if you spilt some invisible paint on them.

rckcrwlr 01.17.2012 11:16 PM

So I got my parts and installed them. Upgraded all the gears and I PUT GREASE IN THERE...

Only got to run it one time but what a world of difference.

I was going to sell it but now I have new found love for this thing...
