Freeze, you asked, we answered. When you have problems don't come back here whining asking for help and advice when you don't take what is given.
You have obviously made up your mind so why bother at all. Enjoy your decision and best of luck to you. |
Have fun with the flux dude, good truck. Buy some decent lipos from HC and get whatever charger you want. Just have fun. After that maxamps thread I am through with giving my advice. You are not a dumbass and I am sure you do research. Go with what you want and enjoy it. Who cares what the rest of us say, that is our idea on what is fun.
All this coming from a guy that has not touched an rc for about 7 months. I just gave up and moved on with my life... |
May I suggest a Traxxas Summit with a Dewalt Brushed Motor?
...I actually prefer this to the Flux (having had both). |
Ha ha, very cute with the toy rc suggestion, keep it up smart asses :whip:
Still trying to sell the 5T and its proving to be a PITA, not to mention im gonna take more of a loss then I wanted to sell it. Ung..... I have decided to go with the nicest Turnigys that are in stock at the time and I think i'll stick with the original Dynamite charger. If I have problems with it, I can return it to my LHS and go from there, but im not dealing with seperate DC PSU's no matter what. My triton 2 was a good charger, but just overpriced and the Dynamite can do more for less, so its a no brainer. Thanks for input all, It'll be nice getting a Flux with the bulletproof diffs and 2.4ghz radio outa the box Also, unlike my picky SMC batteries, have you guys had any issues with leaving your Turnigy's fully charged for long periods of time without using them? I really wanna be able to just charge my packs and then one day, go outside and bash rather then dealing with this lame 12 hour window that SMC batteries had. |

An LST comes with a spektrum:na: |
I wouldn't leave any lipos fully charged for "long periods" of time as its not good for the chemistry long term. How long you are talking about? A couple weeks is fine IMO, but more than that I would store at 50%. A decent charger will have a storage program, so it really shouldn't be an issue to store, then charge up the night before (or two) before you plan to take the truck out. A 12hr window is stupid BS and a sure sign of a scam.
|
Yeah, 12 hour window is a pile of poop- I've just done a long-term test on my old Zippy-H packs; they lost only ~200mah and ~0.10v after sitting fully charged for 6 months. Will test their punch and power pretty soon- summer leave is fast approaching, and its sunny for a change :mdr:
|
I'd only leave them charged for a couple of days or a week at most, not multiple weeks.
|
Leaving them stored fully charged can lead to a puffed pack as well... My dad bought some 5000mah 2s for his planes, charged them and never used them even once. Maybe 3-4months. Now they all have puffed cells.
Well he learned the hard way... But I have left packs charged for maybe a week or two and no problems. |
Sold the 5T at long last, The "Frostbyte II" project has begun!
|
Hmm ok, im also torn with buying two of these instead of the Dynamite Ultra so I can do 2 lipo's at once. Input? Are they quality chargers? The price is freaking awesome, even for two with shipping!

I think of them as the low-budget version of the Hyperion 606i- basically the same spec though the Hyperion does have a few more features for sure, but then again its $55 vs ~$110.
Alot of US companies are selling re-branded chinese chargers for a massive markup ( see: venom chargers ), so if you want a truelly good brand then Hyperion or the iCharger are top-dog. If you wanna buy a load of stuff from Hobbyking at once, then look at the various options; as I've said to alot of people lately, you can compare the various options for a week and not make a decision because you get torn between the top-quality $$$ option or the cheap and cheerful $ options. I've been recommending the AC6 as its A) cheap B) does everything C) pretty simple/ idiot proof D) hobbypartz have good customer care apparently. Buy one, see how you like it, if it works well and you can test how accurately it charges & balances cells with a multimeter, then buy another for quicker charge times on both packs, or spend about the same amount on a single top-end charger knowing that it'll last a long time and can be updated ( firmware updates on hyperion chargers are an interesting point ). Coin toss... |
I would buy that over anything dynamite. Never been a fan of dynamite myself, too many bad experiences.
|
DUDE, PLEASE LISTEN TO ME Do it and do it right, once, and be done.
http://cgi.ebay.com/HYPERION-EOS720I...item2c56311d5d Ac/Dc 150watt Hyperion Balance charger. With a couple simple connectors you can charge two packs at once. This is the way to go. Cheap it out if you want, but this is quality shiznit right here. |
I'm using the AC6 at the moment as I had a Hyperion and it s#at itself and was out of warranty. The AC6 was only intended to be a temporary measure, that was 8 months ago and it's still going strong. Great little unit!

If you dont mind 50w chargers why not get one from hobbyking? Much Cheaper than what you linked...
4-port, 50watts - each port http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...dProduct=11170 Yet another 50watt charger, half the price of the one you linked... http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...w/_accessories I use this one: 150watts - good for 8s lipo OR 7a charge... and still cheaper... http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...lancer/Charger  |
Because I have to buy seperate PSU's for those and I don't wanna deal with that.

Just get the AC6, if it craps out, which most likely won't happen, your only out 50-60 dollars.
It is a great charger. |
Yeah, I think im gonna go and snag up two of those. I also can't find out what the maximum battery mah size this charger can handle, anyone know?
|
I dont think there is such as thing as a maximum capacity it can handle, its more a case of charge rate; it will take twice as long to charge a 10,000mah pack vs a 5,000mah pack, given the maximum charge rate of 5amps. Seeing as these chargers are limited to 50watts, a 2s 5000mah pack will charge in 1 hour @ 1C charge rate, a 3s 5000mah pack will take 1 1/4 hours, since the charge rate will drop below 1C in order to not excede the charger's power rating ( 63watts required for 1C charge ).
|
Ok, I just remember seeing some chargers with like a 9000mAh battery limit or something like that. I do realize that beyond 5000mAh it will take a bit extra time to charge but I could still charge two Lipos at once if I got two of them vs single 8amp passport ultra. I think I still come out charge time ahead if my math is correct
For a theoretical example: Four 2s 7000mAh Lipos w/single Passport Ultra @ 7amps = 1 per Lipo = over 4 hours to charge Four 2s 7000mAh Lipos w/ two AC6 @ 5amps = approx 1.5 per set = approx 3 hours to charge If I factor in doing a 3S 5000mAh Lipo or above i'm looking at at least 1.5 hours per Lipo on each AC6 due to wattage limit. Hmmmmm...... |
So wait, how does the charger known when to stop charging a Lipo after a certain capacity point if it doesn't allow you enter the batteries max mAh capacity? I had to do that with my Triton 2 EQ but I don't see where you enter that on this charger.

Mental telepathy!

it goes by voltage. the charger stops when the cells are at 4.2v each. |
one hyperion charging at 2c (14amps) will charge all 4 2s 7000mah batteries in 2 hours:intello:
could even charge two at a time, but you would be limited to 10 amps at 4s (2 2s in series) |
