the one that i started this post with on page #1 Im not the one that sed i have a huge vehicle i think it was Bryan " I never realized something so big could be so much fun " no thay would not let me into the service as i was only 115lbs at 22 and i WANTED to Badly  but i am a radio technician and have been for over 26 years now. |
Nice little truck for cheap if you just wanted to throw something together to bash and trash. I certainly wouldn't be drving my trucks underwater. Not a bad idea to keep in mind if you wanted a disposable truck to be reckless with. I'm sure you can find some good deals on ebay to throw things together. Even some of the PIF threads could get you a long way there.
In the end, its not the same as a high power/ hi performance rcs, but that's ok. Much like an old fat lady's lips feel the same as a hot young brunette's, just don't open your eyes, look down and ruin the show. ;) At least that's what Harold told me once. I wouldn't know about the old women part, and I don't think he knows about the hot brunettes... anyway, the point is the same.. :) |
I think mine is..............waterproof to the MAXX........
ALL my bearings are Packed with Water Insoluble Lithium Grease plus 3 caps full of Liqued Wrench L2 in the sealed transmission. and i flush the motor with WD40 after EVERY run wet or dry. im not stupid . I run 6 battery packs a day on this thing now for about 3 weeks and No problems . and the brushes are 98% Perfect . and after that today there was not a drop of water in the tranny i do stuff like in the second videos Every time i run it. Plus I maintenance the truck once a week. Water Insoluble Lithium Grease in ALL bearings and other parts The stuff it SWEET!!!! Plus good "normal" maintenance. you can get it at Agway advanced auto this is the stuff here : http://www.warrenoil.com/images/ag7.gif HIGH TEMPERATURE Lithium Complex Grease AUTOMOTIVE, INDUSTRIAL and COMMERCIAL Features (1) Premium quality lithium complex multi-purpose grease. (2) Water insoluble and water washout resistant (3) Superior wheel bearing and chassis performance (4) Full additive package: EP/antiwear, rust and oxidation inhibited (5) Extremely versatile mulit-purpose grease (6) NLGI Service Classification GC-LB (7) Superior lubrication protection in severe duty automotive, trucking, industrial, mining, construction equipment and marine applications. or you can use this : http://www.warrenoil.com/images/mplithiumgrease.gif AUTOGUARD Multi Purpose Lithium Grease This grease is a very economical multi-purpose grease especially suited for normal temperature/speed conditions and other non-critical service applications, as well as those applications requiring frequent regreasing because of a contaminating environment. Water insoluble. Typical Characteristics Code 5251 NLGI Consistency Number 2 Thickener Lithium Stearate Texture Smooth Color, Observed Dark Amber Worked 60 Penetration, D-217 Dropping Point, D-566, F(C) Wheel Bearing Leakage, D-1263,rating Approximate Temperature Range, F(C) PROPERTIES OF OIL: VISCOSITIES: @ 100˚C, cSt 11.8 @ 40˚C,cSt 151 @ 210˚F, SUS 12.2 (67) @ 100˚F, SUS 174 (807) Viscosity Index 50 I have been runing rc's in deep water and Mud for 3 or 4 years and NEVER have had a Bearing go bad or or even beginning to show signs of rust. i run in mud NEVER in sand .... sand is the Number one killer of rc's the sand grinds your bearings up big time. for sand you would want VERRY DRY bearings this way less sand sticks. sand and salt = QUICK DEATH! im in mud and water EVERY day sofar and not even a HINT of rust not even on the old screw heads and my bearings are like new when i remove them for maintenance thay still run smooth . But i do a TOTAL cleanup and relube were needed within 20 minutes after calling it a day. but i dont run my truck on a salt pile. you cant take a " Vergine " truck into water and mud without the proper preparation for were you are going to use it. the proper lube and Grease for the situation and environment is a MUST !!! And for water and mud I DO NOT use inserts and my tires are only bonded in the inside bead. hence i have no problem with the ballance or the tires holding water and slowing me down. |
im far from reckless with my truck I Know what i built it to handle :mdr:
i dont trash it. But i do Bash it !!!! :yipi::mdr::yipi::mdr: |
how old ARE you?
|
may i ask why?
|
Based on when I got into electronics, I'll venture a guess and say 39-44.
|
close Im 45
i started with it when i was about 10 |
you shuld Think BEFORE you post ..on why this was done this way
Its none of your business but i feel this shuld be sed and im not cryen the blues but this should set things straight. So here it is im not working at this time and dont have a mother or father to buy my junk for me. I was not born with a golden spoon in my mouth. I got into rc's to get away from the real world of troubles and trama here at the house...... See im up here in NY cause i needed to get my mother out of a nursing home Here in warsaw NY. http://www.hospital-data.com/hospita...ME-WARSAW.html she is verry sick and not not expected ot live mutch more than another year or so. So i stay home and help her 24/7 and Can not work as she needs full time attention and care i do have Home health aids and nurses here at the house alot and that helps me with some time for myself so i got into rc's as a way to Chill out and calm down from the rigger of the everyday routine. while im here in NY i just work out of the house But Verry little as she dont need to deal with people comeing and going out of the house all day.... so i make Money for what i NEED and Not mutch more. I gave up my Girlfriend we were engaged to be married . I gave up my job in Tucson arizona and shortly after getting up here i gave up my car as i was not usen it. Just doing what i shuld do for my mother as she was there for me ALL my younger life. so without going into Detail thats the Short of why im Here. I DON'T let people know this stuff and i DON'T talk about it as its not proper to talk of these things in a open forum as i have found in life when you do people will say now he is cryen the blues or wanting a pitty party. and thats far from a fact. I ONLY let this out here so you MIGHT more understand why im doing the things the way i am. Now you Know why i dont have a $225 brushless motor and Esc in a $800 rc car. so i Will build or Hodge podge what i need together untill i can do better. Thank you Ralph A Phraner |
Hodge podge, thrown together, custom, whatever you want to call it- I prefer that approach to "bolt-on" any day. I have an engineering mind so designing stuff isn't the problem. Sometimes life needs the money more than your RCs do, and life always takes priority.
I hope your Mom is doing OK, and if you ever have some "extra" cash I hope you can pick up a good BL system and experience the thrill of "too much power". |
Thank you
Verry mutch and thats the first thing im going to do is Brushless when i get a chance. |
Ok-a lot of "sniping" going on here...but,I am getting some good ideas here.I probably should keep the kit supplied 12 turns/blue EVX2 speed controller-for winter "bashing"...and use a brushless system for the rest of the year.
When "550" motors are being dissed,is that just the ones made by Traxxas?(Or,is it the size in general?) Can 540 motors be used? (singly or in pairs ? ) |
Quote:
the size in general a 550 is a 550 a 550 is better than a 540 . as a 550 has a cooling fan and a longer armature that will give you more torque and the fan will help on cooling i have used a 540 in this maxx but it gets Hot FAST! when its offroad and its with out the torque that the 550 offers . a 12t is a high RPM HIGH amperage motor a 19t would be good for speed power and current draw is lower and a 21t is even more power less rpm and uses even less current draw. i just used a Brushed 550 as it will Better handle water mud and other things in the long run...... plus for bashing and mud and water to replace a 550 motor is only$14 vs your brushless @ $60 to $200. |
One good thing about brushed motors- As long as the voltage isn't too high they are already "waterproof". Just need to make sure and clean/dry them out after every run and they'll be fine. Mudproof is a different story, as the sand getting in the wrong place can (and will over time) ruin the commutator/brushes in the motor.
Still, "standard" 550 motors are pretty cheap, so if they last a season then :yipi:. Edit: Run a pair of these on 14 cells and I think you'll be pleased. http://holmeshobbies.com/product.php...&cat=17&page=1 |
so if you run a Brushless motor under water
Then open it it wont be wet inside...................... and in a few runs of Mudy water if that water stays in the motor the dirt that was in the water that made it mud will dry. and as the Motor runs After that the Dryed mud now a solid will be tossed arround in the motor and destroy the feild coil . A brushed motor is easily rinced out with water no disassembly needed to flush it out. |
Question??
no thay would not let me into the service as i was only 115lbs at 22 and i WANTED to Badly
I'm confused. What does weighing 115lbs have to do with getting into the Navy? When I joined in 1977 I was 118lbs and weight not even mentioned during my enlistment. Plus I was a boot camp drill instructor for 5 1/2 years from 90 to 96 and there was no minimum weight requirement. During that time the only weight concerns we worked on was for overweight people, and we busted their a$$ to help them lose that extra weight. In fact I had one recruit who lost over 100lbs in 8 weeks of my cycling him every single chance I got. |

but only 620KV (rpm/volt) is like 4.464 rpm that looks like a 24v motor i would crawl at 7.2v lol i only use 7.2v to 8.4v my motor is rated @ 28,100 RPM (9,400 RPM under load). @ 8.4v and 27amps stall current i need to get away from NiMH Thay are way to heavy over 7 cells. im going to change over to Lipo 30c to 40c at less than half the weight. i tryed a 20c but it dont have the puntch but is better on hills and rock piles with less weight. |
That's definitely a 14-20V motor for general use. I have two in my crawler running 2s LiPo and it is slooooooww but very torquey (sp?). I've almost ripped the tires out of the beadlocks a few times... :oh: Yeah too many Nixx cells gets heavy, I had my Rustler running 14 cells at one point- I think it weight almost 10 pounds, though it still went like hell with the Lehner XL2800. :mdr:

low as 106lbs to a high of 115lbs Max and hight of 5ft 8inch. back then. Nomatter How mutch you would Harp on Me i Would NOT gain weight.. it dont work like that . heck when im upto 118 i feel like ..... ill just say POOP. The start . my mother and father were visiting the Queen Elizabeth or the Queen Marry not shure what one it was But and my Mother was pregnant and she fell and got hurt . Hence i was born Two months premature........ so i have a Under developed nervous system. and back then in 1965 there was not alot of help for that you know kind of like the Stoneage unlike today. so i shake like i have had Way to mutch coffe. Im not retarded or nothing i just have a screwed up nervous system i got a above average IQ score of 111 and I thank God that my body is completely physically fine. as i sed it just looks like i drink to mutch Coffee. thats what i tell people that notice the shakes..... " Oh i just need to cut back on the coffee " I dont drink coffee but it works well. But after 3 return visits to the recruiting office and after reviewing my records from My doctor and after another quick physical thay told me Basicly NO. and now you Know more than MOST know about me. and thats More detail than i feel i need to put in a open forum. But Now you know the full story to this. wow delayed respones....... that was what thay told me at the tucson az Army recruiting office 106Lbs was my constant and 115 was my Max heck even now i only get upto 118 Max . |

I need to watch the torque as it still has the old shafts you know the ones.... not mutch biger arround than a Bic pen.. i need to up grade them first off or thay will just Twist off. thay Flex like Heck now. I wanted to put e-revo ones in it but i need new Swing arms first as the e-revo ones are a little over 1 inch longer. |
Decided to read this thread after looking at your latest vids.
I have to say I alsways enjoyed running my waterprrof scale trucks in water. They were low speed setups, with brushed motors. I often used the old tamiya bushings instead of bearings, and packed everything with waterproof grease. I sealed the wheels and tires, or punched holes in the tread, to let the water out. Prefered sealed tires, but this was with the small 1.9 size. Nifty trick I found, drill an 1/8 inch hole in the back of the motor, so it points downward. This would let the water out pretty quick and helped to get the debris out. I lubed the motor bushings with atf, and would rinse the truck with clear water and use compressed air to clean off the motor, etc. I have a blue xl5 laying around, and a few brushed motors. And a selection of crawler parts. Maybe time to make another "deep water" vehicle!! Won't be quite as cheap as you did, but I have all the parts laying around, so I will not spend any money now!! |
cool let me know what you are worken on
and how it turns out :great: |
just playen in the SlOp .....

well this is the mods i have done to my T-Maxx transmission
it was time for me to do an inspection of my modified T-Maxx transmission . modified T-Maxx centrifugal clutch drum. http://a3.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphot..._2410484_n.jpg <iframe title="YouTube video player" width="640" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/hwjvu4bFDm8" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> Here is a simple video |
I have Another Broken Plastic motor mount
I will try to make my motor mount myself first... This is what i have sofar its the old aluminum chasis deck plate from the T-Maxx and as you can see its all set to cut and drill........ http://a4.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphot...4_504239_n.jpg Well here is the completed Motor mount http://a8.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphot..._6930847_n.jpg http://a4.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphot..._5102425_n.jpg http://a3.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphot..._1515172_n.jpg http://a5.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphot..._3320212_n.jpg All i had on hand to make this motor mount was this thats it. Oh and a cheap drill http://a7.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphot..._4840670_n.jpg |
Well that must have taken you a little time, bout time you upgraded the motor mount to aluminum.
I'm surprised you wasn't eating spur gears on every run. |
lol when i broke my first mount it destroyed a 66tooth spur
but the other 3 that broke i was lucky ... The 72 spur that is on it now has been on it from the day i lost my 66 and it has held up very well. |
