I usually race 2-4 cars depends on how big the race is and what the time schedule is like.
Thats a neat charging station but not really for me. I have a stand that my pair of 610s will sit on and my 606 will sit next to those, and i keep my other 606 in the box because i don't normally need all 4 at once. |
I just remembered i took a picture on my phone a few days ago working on the cabinets, should be finished by next week.
these were the first two sets of drawers. (one is on its back on the benches with all the clamps on it) i'm taking my time and enjoying playing carpenter, don't get to do that as much as id like, so this has been alot of fun. http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-...3_511268_n.jpg |
Looks good Ross. What are you building the cabinets out of? I have always wanted to build cabinets, but never really got to learn and just do not have the time these days. They look good, my construction techniques are a bit "agricultural" but I have a requirement that I can jump on anything I build...
|
im building them out of 3/4" Birch very high grade stuff, had to drive 3 hours round trip to pick it up. well worth it though it easy to work with and doesn't give you trouble like some of the cheaper grades of "cabinet grade" wood
|
Thats gonna be a nice finished product ROOTAR.....You may want to think about the flex of that trailer before you start fastening the cabinets...If you havent already.
|
trailer already had cabinets in it before, not gonna be an issue how ill mount them.
|
Holy crap!
Is that your man cave!? |
Chewing gum.

James I to like building things that will surely out last me in the long run. I like furniture that is heavy duty and looks beefy. I always tell the kids that the stuff that I make will be here even long after they are dead and gone. In our rental property in Vallejo, Ca when I gutted the kitchen for the new renovation I recycled as well. I carefully removed the old cabinets and installed them in the garage and created a nice workshop. All I had to buy was a couple of new 10' countertop from The Home Depot for $50 each, and layed them over some old 3/4" plywood for extra strength. You could park a car on it. The only added cost was installing a 12 outlet power strip, and a few flourecent fixtures for good work lights under the overhead cabinets. No one else knew I was going to do that and it received rave reviews. Now the new tenants have a very organized workshop as part of the deal. |

I've helped and worked with him but i'm building these solo, my trailer, my cabinets, I've done everything on the trailer so far, no since and letting anyone help me now. Although he does inspect what im doing everyday. So far eveything has met his standards. |
Thats cool
Thats cool to have an inside man inspecting your work. With his level of craftsmanship you know he will scrutinize every inch of your work, and if you get the passing knod you know your doing something right. I had a nice shop setup in my home in Orlando, but when I got married and began traveling with my wife for the US Department of State I sold it off and had to let go of everything. So I will have to start over once we settle down(2017). In the meantime I get to build temporary setups at every post, which will help me learn and improve my setups as I go. The portable shop is still the best bet when you travel from track to track racing or even just playing. Yours is turning out great.

painted them today, the 3 uppers and 4 lowers
http://a2.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphot..._3361807_n.jpg the drawers http://a7.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphot..._4443419_n.jpg Im installing them on tuesday, more pics to come then. |
I don't know how I missed this thread. Awesome work man!!! I was a carpenter by trade before I got disabled.
And your race bike, the quad of the month, absolutely sick!! I don't know how you have the time, energy or money to race quads and r/c and do quality work like I see before me. Kudos. off topic: You mentioned the lights in your jetta, any engine work done to it? |
egr delete and a mild tune. it does have koni FSDs and a shine sway. im slowly gathering parts to build the engine, once i get everything ill do it all at once.
|
as promised
http://a1.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphot..._6938500_n.jpg http://a7.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphot..._3558567_n.jpg here is a shot with the parts washer halfway where i wanted it and checking the placement of the overhead cabinets. http://a3.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphot..._5346015_n.jpg here you can see the bevel cut on the backside of all the over head cabinets (what a PITA, to make them fit them fit perfect) http://a1.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphot..._6637542_n.jpg and lastly before i left tonight i whipped up my shelf that holds my parts washer, it will be mounted to the wall and cabinet and have one steel pipe leg on the end corner for support. The opening undeneath is large enough for my compressor when on the road. http://a6.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphot..._5133446_n.jpg |
Envy
Dude you are going to be the envy of the racing world when you setup at the R/C track with that rig. Everyone will dream of owning one of these and having it full of R/C stuff. Very nice work Rootar. The finished product will be magazine worthy I am sure.
|
Man, I need to win the lotto after looking at that trailer.
|
It's going to be amazing. The things someone with knowledge, talent and tools can do. Now think about this, a beer fridge and a 37'' full HD LCD screen on the wall beside the AC, with a DVD player or blue ray. Maybe a satellite dish on the roof. People will pay your race day fee just to show up
|
it will have a radio in it lol tv and such is kinda out of budget. I have my net book in there with me besides, I don't think i would accomplish much with that many distractions.
|
That looks fantastic Ross, very nice work. Like Jerry said, you will be envied.

well more pics from today. I will have it finished this weekend, its not an option or a maybe itll be done or atleast functional minus a couple small items i can do in a week or two. We have a series race next weekend and i need my trailer back at my house so i can get my stuff in it and get 3 of my 4 cars that ill be racing rebuilt and ready during next week. I've got a ton of tires to glue (12 sets as of right now unless i get some more wheels in this coming week) and i gotta get organized.
http://a6.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphot..._6511881_n.jpg http://a4.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphot..._4636415_n.jpg this actually took awhile... front counter top follows the curve of the front of the trailer. http://a5.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphot..._6514693_n.jpg through the side door, (which will be getting a window put in it after the 1st race) http://a3.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphot..._3185654_n.jpg and finally the counter top i went with, ill be gluing it down tomorrow. http://a1.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphot..._3141933_n.jpg |
I think even a factory driver will be jealous!!!
|
my dad always told me if your gonna do something do it right! This is one project i definetly won't be redoing, because i think i got it right the 1st time.
|
Looking good ross, what material did you settle on for the counter?
|
went with the laminate. easy to clean, perfect for my application, easiest to work with my odd counter top. plus i got it as a left over piece from a custom cabinet shop for $80.
I was told it was some of the better laminate i would find, and after cutting on it and such they weren't pulling my leg, its cuts clean and is not brittle. |
Wow...
That's so... :gasp: A window? You sure that's a good idea? I mean, blinds or anything? Because... wouldn't a window in the door make stealing things (not to be TOO negative) a bit...easier? |

I have to agree.
I have to agree about putting a window in this rig. It just creates an easy access where you really do not need one. Without a window you could have a pretty good security setup that will prevent anyone from seeing let alone getting to your toys while it is parked overnight. Unless you plan to have a couple of pit bulls sleeping in the trailer.
Love the way things are turning out Ross. Nice clean work, and looks very efficient as well. I know I am jealous. Good luck meeting your schedule. Seems like you have quite a lot on your plate. Also good luck with your racing this year. Looking forward to seeing the trailer completed. |
wiring it up tomorrow morning and ill finish the front walls final pieces in a couple weeks. but its "done" for now
|
I remember reading what you were using for lighting, fluorescent?
How about LED strips from hobbyking? Cheap, effective, and holydamn bright. |
Was wondering Ross, do you plan to put lights uner the top cabinets on the left side?
|
yep (3) 4 foot dual bulbs under the overheads to finish off the lighting

Your work looks very good, excellent job! |
What are you going to use as solvent in your parts washer? I used Super Clean in mine, with less than stellar results. It says not to use flamable solvent (im assuming that is a HF solvent tank?) but I am thinking it would be ok to use it anyway as long as the pump was always submersed.
|
How are you going to power all of this stuff BTW? I'm assuming you aren't going to keep the engine running in your truck to supply a power inverter? Is there an external extension cord that you'll plug in at the track? Portable generator? The generator would get to be annoying after a while I would think...

One of their new AC batteries?
|
It has a 30 amp panel and i have a 30 amp rv plug i installed under my carport i run the extension cord out of the tool box on the tounge of the trailer to plug it in. At the track i have a 4000w generator that runs about 10-11 hours on a tank it of gas (3 gallons) and it has a 30 amp rv plug and circuit on it.
its done and its in my back yard right now after i get done eating ill get some pics. |
Gotta say, it's an impressive trailer...better than a lot of homes I've seen
