The 8T really doesn't need anything for strength. We bash ours hard, and the only thing that I've seen so far is the front tie rods popping off the ball joint at the front carrier. My Muggy has suffered continual breakage of the front carriers, so I haven't tried to fix the rod popping off - its probably keeping us from breaking them.
There are some nicer aftermarket chassis braces available (kings head, etc). Not sure if they are required - I had to get one to accomodate the electric conversion - but that may have been due to Tekno's layout (it has the Tekno chassis). The diffs and cases are fine from the factory. I've run a 1520 on 6S in mine, and no issues. Buggy body will not fit "right" - but if you like how it fits, then use it.... There are some carbon fiber items to lighten them up - I have a set, but have never installed them yet. Just haven't seen the need so far. My highly upgraded Revo (even with RCm AL cases) has sat on the shelf since I bought my first truggy. My kids will likely have to put it in my Estate Sale someday..... |

So would you say that running my 8T on 6S (have a lot of these from heli) would be okay? I'm honestly just plain paranoid of doing any jumps etc on 6s. Sick of going through diffs etc. Out of curiosity, why did you end up shelving your revo? Do you ever miss it? and how do you find bashing your 8T compared to the revo? Any drawbacks? I'm putting in the electronics from my broken down revo and into my 8T tomorrow...can't wait to try her out for the first time. Better not go through any diffs :) |
I shelved the Revo because I was sick of having to stop at the LHS on the way home to buy shafts, diffs, arms, etc.,
Dont really miss it except for the nostalgia - it was one of the first converted Revo's on here, and I "cut my teeth" on brushless with it. Anyone else remember the days of Fiego's and MGM controllers??? Whats a BEC????? You should be able to run 6S as much as you want on the 8T. Obviously, there are limitations to everything, you are your own warranty station! The 8T handles better. It does not do wheelies (if its correctly set up). Its probably not going to be as fast, or give you the jaw dropping punch that you get from a ERBE or Flux, but you will out run the them with the 8T. It doesn't have the ground clearance for bashing that the Revo can give - but you will find yourself bashing a little differently with it. If you want it to run more like a Revo - change the diff fluid, put some MT's on it, and call it a modern day Muggy. ps. Save up for a slipperential for it. I personally think they are important for saving diff's - I have them in all of my buggy's/truggy's. |
Wow...just wow!! My friends and I went out to a bmx track with a lot of "kicker" jumps and all I can say is wow!! I love the way the 8T handles, much better than my revo. But the most important this is the durability. I was launching this thing off these kicker jumps and it kept coming back for more. I have no spares yet, so i was somewhat tentative at first, but that "please don't break" fear was quickly subsided and on the back shelf. Like my revo, I'm going to see it. I really wish I would have moved on earlier and taken the advice offered here. Thanks so much! I'm so glad I went with the truggy, first time I ever went out and went through all my lipos (5) and didn't have any problems. Geeez, all that money i spent on the erbe....anyhow, I'm glad to be moving on.
Thanks to you all for your support and advice, you saved me a ton more $$$, time and frustration. I had a great day today and I thank you all for your advice! Cheers, -FUNBOSS |
I'm still amazed that I can go out and beat the truck to death then put it away and just plug in my batts the next time without wrenching for hours in between runs! It's almost boring

Were you having lots of problems with your erbe as well? Or am I exaggerating on this? |
Oh, I was constantly having issues with it. Not all were major though but after 11 months even the small things get to you. I don't think I ever had one run without issues. I was one of the few agreeing with you on the Traxxas' forum
I got a 6T and I have finally broken two things; the rear shock tower which slightly cracked from repeated landings up-side-down when doing back flips and a lower front a-arm. Missed a landing and the jump had a curb which the wheel got stuck on while the rest of the truck was in the air so the a-arm and wheel took the hit. Wing and body is starting to fall apart but those break on whatever car you'll get. At least if you drive them like I do  |

I honestly couldn't believe how much more durable these truggy's are, just blew my mind the other day. My erbe would have been sidelined after a half pack on 3s. Something would have popped out, bent, broke or given away. Tired of making excuses to the excessive $$ i spend on upgrades and attempts to re-engineer it to handle mild bashing. I hope others considering this rig read this and take head. Its a great truck, but not able to withstand brushless applications imo. It amazes me how many people come out on forums and say how durable their erbe and how after countless runs nothing has broken. Yet, when you get on forums such as this, there are countless people who have "been there, done that, had the same issues" feeling about the erbe. Its refreshing to know I wasn't the only one. Just venting, but very very happy that you chimed in jfs! I almost got out of this hobby and left it for good, glad i stuck around :) |
