Update:

Long time no see, but now Iīm here!

It has been tons of flux driving, alot of 1:1 car tuning and just too much work to get a chance to update, and my camera is "stolen" so I can only give you crappy phone pics= No action shots or macroshots...

Anyway, this is the case.

The car have been great so far except the gearbox housing breaking due to too much chassi flex, so I bought a tcs crawlers chassis:party:.

But I didnīt feel comfortable with just 5mm....So I sandwitshed the stock chassi and the tcs chassi for 7.5mm on each side, totally 15mm thick chassis! No chassis bending on my truck:whip::

http://cdn04.dayviews.com/66/_u2/_u3...10552912/l.jpg

I also made a new, thicker motor mount:

http://cdn04.dayviews.com/69/_u2/_u3...1310552915.jpg

After I fixed that I got some major air in the sandpit, and the only thing I managed to break was shock shafts...An endless amount of shock shafts!

So, It was back to the workbench, and here is the result:wink::

Revo 5mm pushrods:

http://cdn04.dayviews.com/69/_u2/_u3...1310550703.jpg

I started to remove everything from the shock body, and then I mounted the end cap that holds the orings and drilled up the holes in the cap and the body to fit the new shaft:

http://cdn04.dayviews.com/66/_u2/_u3...550700/lll.jpg

I drilled up the piston:

http://cdn04.dayviews.com/62/_u2/_u3...1310550698.jpg

I mounted all the necessary parts on the shock shaft and then pushed the shaft inside the shockbody:

http://cdn04.dayviews.com/70/_u2/_u3...550705/lll.jpg

And this is how I mounted the piston in a safe way:

metal shim:

http://cdn04.dayviews.com/64/_u2/_u3...550707/lll.jpg

Manne 07.13.2011 06:16 AM

Piston:

http://cdn04.dayviews.com/66/_u2/_u3...1310550709.jpg

Metal shim again:

http://cdn04.dayviews.com/69/_u2/_u3...1310550712.jpg

Locktight:

http://cdn04.dayviews.com/64/_u2/_u3...1310550714.jpg

And the nut:

http://cdn04.dayviews.com/67/_u2/_u3...1310550716.jpg

And this is how it looks assembled, Modified to the left, stock to the right:

http://cdn04.dayviews.com/64/_u2/_u3...10550693/l.jpg

The result is way beyond all expectations, it works flawless, If you put some work in it and doing everything slowly and perfect you will have indestrucible shocks.

I have beating the snot out of these babys for many hours now and I havent bent a single one! Neither do they leak any oil at all.

There is a few important things that you have to get right in order to make this work.

The hole in the lower shock cap and the shock body must be perfect, I drilled them up in a way that made the shafts go slightly unsmooth when I test fitted them in the shock, by doing that you can be sure to not get any leaks.

You have to shim between the shock spring retainer and the shock end, otherwise the piston will blow the upper shock cap off when the shock bottoms out.....And that wonīt be good at all.

The shock will end up slightly longer than stock, So the ride height is limited by the a-arms touching the skidplates, high and good for bashers, bad for racers.

Now go and get yourselfs some awsome home made supershocks!:intello:

Manne 08.15.2011 01:29 PM

Small update:

I finally broke something again:lol: The gearbox housing donīt like nose landings after I made the thicker motorplate:lol:, time to buy a alu housing:yipi:.

http://cdn04.dayviews.com/38/_u2/_u3...3429208/nj.jpg

I have a short clip too, just some regular sunday bashing, nothing fancy:smile:

Fast forward to 25.

brainanator 08.15.2011 01:56 PM

good stuff here! might have to try that pushrod trick someday!

Manne 08.17.2011 06:24 AM

Yeah go ahead! You never have to be worried about broken shocks anymore :).

Ola 09.20.2011 03:04 AM

How are you doing Manne? Still improving the Savage? E-revo also perhaps? :)

Manne 09.22.2011 08:31 AM

Hello Ola! Sorry for the slow answer!

Yes I am, actually I have a new setup on the truck now, I was supposed to post it a few days ago but I just couldnīt find time to do it:neutral:

Yeah, I did put togheter the revo about a month ago...To just give it a shot once again, after four packs of lipos the front diff gave up........

The savvy is still using the diffs it came with:party: shimmed with alot of care ofcourse and very well taken care of but still the same!

How about you? Is the truggy still going strong?:whip:

Ola 09.22.2011 12:03 PM

Sounds great! Do post youre new setup as well :)

The truggy is still running strong.. Too little driving this summer because of work, but i think ive put it through approx 35-40 packs in total now.. 5s 5000mah.. A couple rims and a body has been wrecked, but thats about it :) Rear diff was popping today though :( its reshimmed now, so it still works, but ive orered a new because the old one looks worn out.. Should have serviced and reshimmed it before, but a 24 buck diff i can live with after all those hours :)

Manne 01.20.2012 06:31 AM

Better Late then never!

Ola:
Well It looks like the truggy was the right way to go for you then:yipi: I canīt say anything more than that that car is just plain awsome. Keep on bashing:whip:.

Update:

The new setup.

Using stock radiobox and stock motormount with the revo gearbox
http://cdn04.dayviews.com/100/_u2/_u...27054557/f.jpg

http://cdn04.dayviews.com/92/_u2/_u3...1327054565.jpg

Covered the holes in the front of the motor also
http://cdn04.dayviews.com/91/_u2/_u3...1327054561.jpg

Well, this setup seems to be bulletproof, it has taken some SERIOUS beatings and major air since I did this, I consider the truck done now, all the weak links are gone.

Now itīs time for a rebuild so Itīs ready for the summer.

Will be ordering a new body, new wheeliebar, new front and rear skid and new "flexmounts" for the bumpers, new drivecups, driveshafts, tires and some other stuff.

There has been some videotaping and fotage taken this autumn from the gravel pit that I will post later on... I will try to not have such a big gap between now and the next update as the last time I posted something:lol:

coolhandcountry 01.20.2012 03:13 PM

Interesting build.
Seems the truck does take a pounding.
I used to like my savage kind of wish had kept it.
Why didn't you get a FLM chassis instead of other brand?

Manne 02.02.2012 05:06 AM

Thanks.

Yeah, Itīs a great truck.

The Tcs chassis seemed to be the most rigid chassis for the price, thats pretty much it, why did you wounder? :)

coolhandcountry 02.02.2012 09:14 AM

More curious then anything.

Ascender 03.11.2012 04:08 AM

Wow, haven't been here in a while.

So, questions:
1. One of your original complaints about the Flux was that it was a "fat pig", yet you've actually made it a lot heavier by sticking the stock plates inside the TCS TVPs. As far as I know, NOBODY has ever managed to bend or break a TCS plate yet. Plus, the reason you had problems with the stock plates in the first place was that you removed all of the cross-bracing that makes the Savage line so strong when you took out the radio box and motor plate. Having the stock sandwiched in there is just pointless weight.

Second, you've missed the best proven handling improvements for the Savage, which are simply lowering the truck by means of an internal spacer in the shock, and getting an XL-length chassis. TCS makes a good one, or you can do like I did and order a set of XL-length carbon fiber TVPs from Platinum RC. They weigh less than the stock 2.5mm plates, and they're as strong or stronger than the TCS pieces.

Manne 05.16.2012 01:35 PM

Very long time no see!

Will post some bash pics, and some video clips later on..... I have them just havenīt uploaded them ( I donīt have a youtube account yet...).

Ascender:

This is why it isnīt pointless to use the tcs chassis with the stock chassis: Look from 3.45 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=09FbKPKRBvo

About the crossbraces, I bent the crap out of the truck in places where the braces didnīt do any difference. Like in the right rear section where the motor sits on a stock flux, in the thin section. My friend with a completly stock flux also bent the living crap out of it and he had all the stock braces, bent it in the same places as I did:party:.

Thanks for the tip but I didnīt miss the XL length or the spacers in the shocks by mistake. I like high rideheight since I drive alot in rough gravelpits. And I like it short to easy make backflips and doing wheelies.

The main concerns that makes a stock flux "fat" is the crazy soft super sloppy sarvosaver spring, the thin shock oil combined with the stock mushy tires with non offset wheels.

I know that I have those big fat sloppy tires in most of the pictures, they soak up bad landings soo good so I like them for that, they also help alot to nail those tripple backflips:whip:. But I also use a set of crimefighters when I want it to feel more "racing", jump long and steady without backflips, turn good and drive fast.

Ola please be here somewhere, I want to hear about the Rc8t, still going strong?

Keep on bashing everyone.

Manne 05.18.2012 07:25 AM

Update:

Finally! Movietime!

Pretty chill but amusing driving in the gravelpit:party:

Tell me what you think, this is the first movie i have edited so all critisism is welcomed to make it better next time.

Keep onn bashing:intello:.

_dV 05.19.2012 06:45 PM

Thanks for putting that up, there's some fun stuff in there and good driving. Nicely done for a first effort.

Good to see a practical truck build aimed at bashing.

Manne 05.21.2012 03:23 PM

Thanks alot:party: Weīll see if I get to do a better one sometime soon:whip:

Manne 05.30.2012 06:03 AM

Just ordered some parts, New body ( ford f-150 ) some pro-line mashers that Iīm going to mount on some 23mm white dish wheels. And a whole bunch of stockparts to replace all those worn out parts.

Will post some pics when heīs all togheter again.

Ola 07.06.2012 06:57 PM

Eyh Manne :) Keeping it up are you? Nice work you've done to the truck!

Sorry about the rc8t news, but its been sitting there for the last 5-6 months now... I'm all about rc planes these days.. But i take it out now and then, just to remind it who's the boss lol.. But nothing really brutal hehe. It still runs strong though..

Manne 07.15.2012 12:57 PM

Heey!

Yeah, thanks alot:party:.

Oh, yeah flying is fun! With and without wings:lol:. I have actually been flying alot of heli lately, but nothing too big, just a 4channel coax, but I really enjoy it.

Good thing you give the rc8t a "reminder" from time to time, so it wonīt get old and rusty:whip:, good to hear that it still runs good.

Here is the latest look:

Update:

Found some old pictures of weight comparission between my batterys, the weight of the chassis and such, just thought I should post them if someone were interested:smile:

I changed out all the sloppy plasticballs for some revo metal ones in the steering:
http://cdn07.dayviews.com/101/_u2/_u...57729064/l.jpg

http://cdn07.dayviews.com/104/_u2/_u...1357729069.jpg

And here is the weight of the 15mm chassis, 540grams:
http://cdn07.dayviews.com/101/_u2/_u...1357729072.jpg

My 4000mah 4s nanotechs, 423grams each:
http://cdn07.dayviews.com/103/_u2/_u...1357729074.jpg

The old Rhino packs, 3700mah 4s, 406grams:
http://cdn07.dayviews.com/101/_u2/_u...1357729080.jpg

I have always been afraid to rip out the sockets from the mambamonster, so I made extensions back then so I didnīt have to pull the motorcables directly from the mamba:
http://cdn07.dayviews.com/105/_u2/_u...1357729085.jpg

I donīt use them anymore tho since it gets too messy in my latest build wich you can read about here:

http://traxxas.com/forums/showthread...ayer-pro-build

Happy bashing everyone!

Manne 07.07.2014 04:35 PM

Long time, no see....

I have really really bad news. The flux got stolen. I will build a new one in time.

Have some carnage pics to post in memory:lol:.

I hope you struggle like hell for the one who stole you! Bye bye dear truck:cry:.

Bought a new body for it:
http://cdn07.dayviews.com/113/_u2/_u...04764928/s.jpg

Got a MMM WP V2 for it:

Manne 08.25.2014 05:42 AM

Time for an update!:yipi:

Just ordered a whole new truck! Ordered it in parts mostly from Dollarhobbyz and Tcs crawlers:oops:. It will be a XL build this time without the batteryboxes:party:.

Brb as soon as the packages starts raining in:mdr:

coolhandcountry 08.26.2014 01:18 PM

Are they there yet? :D

Manne 08.27.2014 04:08 AM

No not yet!:cry: I want my parts now!:whip: My fingers are itching after wrenching!

Will update as soon as they are here:yes:

Manne 09.24.2014 06:20 PM

Manne 09.24.2014 06:26 PM

First version of the extended rear shaft, simply cut and welded, didnīt hold up to my abuse:na::
http://cdn07.dayviews.com/113/_u2/_u...1411590191.jpg

This is the second version. Cut, inserted in a handmade steel tube with six 4mm holes in it, welded in the six holes, then finished in a lathe. All done by a very skilled friend of mine called "Karlsson" :mdr:, this version has taken som serious abuse and still holds up! Basher approved:

The aluminum bulkhead mounts:
http://cdn07.dayviews.com/113/_u2/_u...1411590210.jpg

The custom skidplate, also mounted after the first testdrive, was going to not use a skid, but bent the rear centershaft so decided to moke one up:

Had to remove some material from the chassis to get free movement:
http://cdn07.dayviews.com/113/_u2/_u...1411590240.jpg

After the first test session I installed washers on the toelinks to keep them from popping off:

Manne 09.24.2014 06:29 PM

And what can I say? Itīs beyond all expectations, the thing I love the most is that when everything is mounted so tight in the center itīs so much more easy to make the truck lean to left or right in mid air, which makes it possible to throw some awsome underside up whips:lol:.

Iīm sorry that I forgot to take pictures of the making of the esc mounting plate and the servo mounts. And the gearboxmounts and motorplate.

I now have three things left to do on the truck. Build my "indestructable" shocks from 5mm Revo pushrods (see page three), buy a aluminum gearbox housing (see page three), and install my other radio with telemetry for temp and voltage.

The parts for the shocks have arrived, just have had to much fun driving it to do any wrenching:oops::
http://cdn07.dayviews.com/113/_u2/_u...11590235/l.jpg

Thats all for tonight. I have some more stuff to post about driveshafts, wear etc but that will have to wait for now. Keep on bashing and have fun everyone!:mdr:

coolhandcountry 09.30.2014 06:10 PM

Looks good manne!
Looking at this makes me want to build my stuff back to running order.
I used to love my savage.

Manne 03.18.2015 03:23 PM

Installed the Cen racing internals from the genesis/matrix, I did this not because I stripped the gears, but because I kept snapping the 2.5mm pin on each outputshaft. The Cen internals uses 3mm pins. Just drilled up the flux outputs from 2.5mm to 3mm. Strongly recomended!:yipi::

Didnīt really like how the Pantherīs hooked up in the rear so I bought some Proline 3.2 paddles and mounted on some old 40series 23mm Proline rims, had to cut them quite a bit:rofl::

This is how i found the truck after a 150 Feet, (no there isnīt a zero to much) to flat . Seemed like the truck was flying for ever and ever and ever. In the gravelpit, they hade made a pile about 135 feet high with a perfect ramp at the top... I just couldnīt not do it. So on the last charge for the day I jumped it. Managed in some weird amazing way jump it four times before it ended up like that. Landed perfectly on all 4īs except that last time:lol::

If I see this, I just have to bow for you, to get all the almost impossible thing done! ;) :)

Those wheels look great, and with a 23MM hex!
I only have some 40 series 23MM spare wheels now, I need some tires for these kind of beads:

Would the Thunder Tiger wheels with that kind of bead?

What size and bead are those tires?
I am looking for some wheels for 3,8 Mashers, but they only come with a Traxxas bead...
