Heres some close ups of the Boom I made and how it's intended to work and store when not in use.
Enjoy the pics. http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k1...chassis005.jpg http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k1...chassis006.jpg http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k1...chassis007.jpg http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k1...chassis008.jpg http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k1...chassis011.jpg http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k1...chassis012.jpg http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k1...chassis013.jpg http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k1...chassis014.jpg |
Just got done filling the winch spool, It took all 20yards of 100lb Power-Pro I bought, should be plenty ;-)
Also tied up a extra tow rope and and the winches King Kong Hook, Not sure what I'm doing the silver hook yet ? http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k1...towrope005.jpg http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k1...towrope003.jpg |
Sick!

I've seen some of the stuff you've built so it means a lot, thanks ! |
That is some nice work Bondoman.
|
How fast does it go? How much did it cost? Does it wheelie? Can I drive it?:intello:
|
That is very cool. I want to build a crawler now, but something scale. I love the little details, the hooks and the metal work. Are those parts soldered together or are those weld? Shows how little I know. Very nice man can't wait to see it finished.

@Harold; Since it's intention is a recovery truck I'm trying to gear low, I think it'll hit roughly 20mph at WOT but thats not the intention. I just wanted to make sure I have the power for good wheel speed in the loose stuff, Especially with this pig's weight being around 15lbs. I hate to think what I've invested into this build but my best guess would be roughly $2K+ No wheelies No @FG The brass work is soldered, see post #7 Thanks for looking. |
FINE!:diablo: I didn't want to drive it anyway:cry:

LOL @ Harold
More updates, New knobs and gimmick for the TX bling bling baby. http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k1...ssembly008.jpg Wires are ran nice and neat but will be covered by the bed, everything is wired for quick and easy disconnect to make maintinance or repairs a bit easier. http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k1...ssembly004.jpg http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k1...ssembly005.jpg http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k1...ssembly006.jpg |
Made a loop for a permanant to wrope w/hook up front.
http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k1...ssembly003.jpg http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k1...ssembly001.jpg Also made a place for the winch hook to rest between jobs. http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k1...ssembly010.jpg http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k1...ssembly011.jpg LED's Front and rear and in the electronics compartment http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k1...ssembly016.jpg http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k1...ssembly014.jpg http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k1...ssembly012.jpg Was really difficult getting the wires this neat, I hate it looking like this not much more can be done. At least the door hides it between battery changes. The box with switches control the LED's, have a 3rd for new addition whatever it'll be ? http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k1...ssembly009.jpg Servo oprerated door via TX http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w4JkmOMJzfc .................................................. ................................................. |
Sorry guys, there was a small mix up and there was a accidental close of the thread for a few days and I also requested a move to this sub forum because it seemed more fitting.
Any ideas or constructive criticism I'm open minded, feel free to post up. |

I do and will, Scuff and scratches are expected and they build character.
Take Harold for instance, his face is all feked up and Hippy loves him no less despite the years worth of bumps, bruises and worn out orifices  |
Jeff this build is one of the most creative, detailed builds I have seen on these forums since becoming a member. From the creative perspective...I braze a little, weld a lot so I know what it involves to work with metal. The fabrication in this build is terrific.
Now, on to the question everyone wants to know....how many cases of beer to build this. I personally wish I could sit down with a case of beer in a day to work on my rc's...that would be heaven....lol. Seriously, exceptionally well done. You should bring it to the next rc show. |
Thank you Brian, a most appreciated comment my friend.
Lost count of the beers consumed during building ? Beers, Iron Maiden on the Stereo and that work bench is my place of solitude and happiness for sure. During a test and tune Saturday afternoon I broke the pin on one of the outdrives and came to the conclusion the bump steer on the #2 and #3 axles is horrible. So after taking some time away from the project I replaced the pin and started on a new servo mounts for the axles. Heres what I got done this afternoon with minimual beer consumption. This is a very elaborate piece and was difficult getting the last parts soldered without heating it up to much to drop other parts off. Was extremely frustrating but it's done, I look to possibly simplify the second one ? Bottom line the bump steer issue should be solved with these ! http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k1...omounts001.jpg http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k1...omounts002.jpg http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k1...omounts007.jpg http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k1...omounts008.jpg http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k1...omounts005.jpg |

Axle mounted servos? That is cheating, you just need to make your linkages correctly. Shame on you for taking the easy way out. |

A suggestion from me, I (personally) would like to see the electronics door open and close a bit slower. I know the fancy JR transmitter I played with allowed for servo slowing, not sure if the 7S does or if you would need an add-on (probably for landing gear).
Love it all man, keep the posts coming, Can't wait to see it hitting some dirt and towing some stuff! |

Yes the TX does have the ability to slow the flap channel servo, (I didn't know this till I stumbled across it in the manual)I'm waiting till I get a servo reverser to install the second servo for the door then switch everything around because I have something already on that channel. Just figured I'd do it all together at one time. IDK why but it's actually slower than in the video, the recording of it makes it look fast as a bullet, the servo is .26 sec at 6v so it's reasonably slow. @Brian; I grew up with Maiden as well and loved all the hairbands in the 80's to! Between all the Iron Maiden and Bruce Dickerson solo stuff I have 27 albums and theres more I don't have. |
Epic build Jeff!
I don't get on forum much anymore, but always great to see szit like this. Mad props :D |

Thanks for the props bro. |

The content is a plus but it's the people that keep me here. It's been way too slow lately. |
Flaps! Yeah, that's what it was on with that JR radio. Makes sense too on your truck. "Lift the flap!" then it opens awesomely slow. :)

Been a crazy few months H, I'll try to be around more :)
I just came across this one, fits right in with the thread I reckon. Superb vid & vehicles! <iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/m60qVqZLKCQ" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> |
Great video, I also have a scaler/Wraith myself.

Your driver needs sunscreen, spf5000....
|
Just watched the vid, that 1.9 cherokee with the working steering wheel is cool. Watching the action figure's arms move just makes it that much cooler!
|
Moisturising sunscreen! And his eyes are bloodshot to hell! What has he been smoking?

More evidence that the driver is in fact Charlie Sheen. Nice ride Bro :D |
Hehe, most of the scaler guys choose muscle bound wrestlers or GI types to "drive" their trucks, I had to be bit different. I named my driver Bob Zombie and went with the theme a little further with custom made beadlock wheels with "Double Tap" on the rings (quote from Zombieland) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LDJedaxA2eU

I was batteling a bump steer issue with all 3 axles, the #1-#2 were horrible where-as the 3rd wasn't bad at all. I reconfigured the linkages for #1 & #3 and the bump steer is nearly non existant now via bench testing. The 2nd axle I fabricated a entirely new mount due the old one rubbing the shock a little, this mount far exceeds the first design anyway. I'm now going to be putting everything back together for a test later today or during the week when time allows.
A big thanks to James/Lincpimp, his help made figuring out these issues a bit easier. :great: I made spacers to drop the servo down 15mm, made abig difference. http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k1...omounts010.jpg http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k1...omounts012.jpg The new servo mount http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k1...omounts006.jpg http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k1...omounts007.jpg http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k1...omounts009.jpg http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k1...omounts008.jpg Also have a short video of the this servo and mount in actionhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8T9EENrKvSY .................................................. ........................................... |
Ben taking some time to add a few things to chassis and cab and now working on assembly and getting everything wired back up.
Perscription Med's bottle fuel tanks http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k1...dowmesh002.jpg http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k1...dowmesh001.jpg Went for more of a Road Warrior vibe, was worried about the lexan windows getting knocked out so used this plastic garden border mesh.(8"x20' roll $6.00 @ Lowes) http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k1...dowmesh005.jpg http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k1...dowmesh004.jpg |
Bought 20' of the mesh and used up a whole 6"? You'll find more uses for it now that you have it I'm sure, haha.
Lookin good! I like the fuel tanks. |
