Since Spektrum uses 2.4GHz, the antenna can be quite short. As a matter of fact, Spektrum says you can cut the antenna (to a precise value) without appreciable loss. In my Revo, I have the antenna base mounted to one of the stock brake "caliper" holes and the mast doesn't even exceed the top of the stock rollbar. Range is about as far as I can effectively drive it (500-600 ft at a guess).
I'll have to check those out. Should I look at purchasing an entire system, or does that reciever work well with the stocker transmitters.

AFAIK, The only way it will work with non-Spektrum transmitter is if the transmitter has a module plug-in port so you can plug in the Spektrum module.

I love the Spektrum, but there are two things I wish it had: speed sensitive steering (where steering moves less the faster you go) and more model memories. My DX3 only has 3. The newer version has 4, so that's a bit better. The receivers are VERY small so they fit pretty much anywhere. There's even a Pro version which is even smaller. All in all, it's a nice radio with some nice features. I've never had any kind of interference or glitching issues at all.

Some people may suggest getting one of the Nomadio radio systems instead. IIRC, Squee was a proponent of that system so he may offer more advice.
