Very true. Technically, all motors of the same "family" are capable of the same power. Some (high turns) make the power through voltage, while others (low turns) make the power through amperage. The power source (batteries ability to deliver needed voltage/amperage) is usually the deciding factor in actual power output.

lipomax 02.16.2005 02:45 PM

Yeah, technically all motors of the same family can have the same power input... but the more efficient one will have slightly more output. Also, the more efficient one that doesn't produce as much heat can run at that power for a longer period of time though. Important when actually racing.

I want to post a video of my lipo emaxx, anybody know how to post it? My digital camera makes these humongous sized files - any way to compress them so I can upload them? I think you guys will be impressed by the acceleration of my emaxx - I can't even mash the throttle even in second gear because it has too much torque.

Serum 02.16.2005 03:04 PM

Well, when you have got windows XP, you can use movie maker..

Just import the movie there and save it, in the size and quality you like.. ;)

RC-Monster Mike 02.16.2005 04:27 PM

Send netman a pm and have him post it in the video vault on this site.

Why is it that everytime I try to go out these days, it's either snowing, raining, or something breaks???? This time the tx broke!!! BTW, I'm just trying to see how fast my emaxx goes with 8s. Sigh....

I did get my TC4 going today. 4s with a 28/72 gearing with C4012s gave me 55 mph today. Amp draw during hard accel was around 60 amps (approx 700 watts peak). Most of the time it was coasting. Battery, motor, and controller were cool (then again, it's only 30 degrees F here in Chicago).

I had a couple of awesome flips and rolls with the TC4 though - go sideways and it catches air like crazy. It gets harder and harder the faster you go. I'll put in the Twist 4200 next - should get over 60 mph easily with that setup... And the whole thing only weighs 3 pounds!!!

Oh crap, I just hijacked my own thread...

RC-Monster Mike 02.17.2005 08:57 AM

LOL. I've been over 60 mph with the 3s Lipo in my tc3 (although I am running a basic 4200), so it should be a no brainer with a 4s pack. I am curious about those kontronic motors, too. They seem to have a quality construction. From what I understand, the controllers aren't very good, but the motors seem to be. The xl1600 should be a pretty ideal motor for your 8s e-maxx.

RCcarnut 02.17.2005 10:14 AM

I went 59.5 mph yesterday in my bandit. Lehner 5300,8 GP cells, and 30/72 gearing. Man I need some lipos for this thing now:)

Very tough to control for sure with all the sand and salt. I'll break 60 today for sure I think. I have already done 61.9 with a lehner 4200 and 11 cells. I want to break 60 on 8 cells though.

Then try 10 and 12 cells or maybe a 3s lipo weee.

Dafni 02.17.2005 10:35 AM

OMG, you guys have some crazy fast RC's
I like my brushed E-maxx at 14 cells. It's enough for my track. I would estimate my BL-TwinForces speed at around 40 mph. (Nemesis 9L @ 14 cells)
If my BL Revo will get above 30 or 35 i'm more than content!

What approx speed do you guys get with an emaxx on a 9L / 9918 / 14 cells? BTW (man, it's hard to keep on topic:rolleyes: sorry guys)

RC-Monster Mike 02.17.2005 12:04 PM

Speed will obviously depend on gearing. We generally gear for around 35mph, but 50+ mph would be pretty easy with this setup.

Dafni 02.17.2005 12:54 PM

Ja, obviously. But I like to stay on the save side.
So on my Revo (EMaxx tranny) I´ll start with 16/66 and then move on.

Do you guys use temp gauges, or do you go by feeling?

Also, do you use GPS thingies to get the speed??

Promod 02.17.2005 01:28 PM

Been over 70 mph with my one E-maxx, over 40 mph with my clod(That is SCARY) 76 mph with my rustler.
A GPS unit is what I've always used. It is the best way to check speed on an R/C. I also use a "temp gun" to read how hot things are getting.

Thank you,
Promod

Serum 02.17.2005 01:33 PM

What was on the 60mph maxx?

Was it you, with the 36 cell setup?

Dafni 02.17.2005 02:23 PM

temp GUN, yeah. My bad:o i´m an english noob

Promod 02.17.2005 03:11 PM

I've ran over 60 with my E-maxx on 18 cells. I have run 36 cells (Dual BL with 18 cells on each motor) but never GPS checked it. The 70 MPH setup was a Lehner 22 series motor,Schulze 32.80, and 28 cells.

Thank you,
Promod

Megazone23 02.17.2005 03:48 PM

So what do you do with an E-Maxx that does 70 mph? Follow it in the car? ;)

What happens if it passes a police car? Do they drop a brushless police RC car out the door to chase you down and pull you over? :D

HotnCold 02.17.2005 05:53 PM

Police

1 Attachment(s)
If they drop a police rc monster truck that will catch someone doing 70 in their rc monster truck - Then Damnit - Ill take one of dem police Monster Trucks... Woo Hoo

rcjmaxx 02.17.2005 07:57 PM

I keep seeing mention of a GPS for measuring speed, who makes this, how much and where do I get one? Thanks

lipomax 02.17.2005 08:45 PM

Garmin makes the GPS. I use GPS - but you have to maintain that top speed for a good 2 seconds to truly register your speed. I also have a Bushnell radar gun - very accurate but sometimes gives some weird numbers. I'm also using Eagletree - but it doesn't take into account for ballooning of tires so I have to approximate how much they balloon by checking occasionally with the GPS. My emaxx has both GPS and Eagletree on at the same time. I use the temp gun, and I also use the temp gauge built into the eagle tree.

Promod: what tires did you use on the 70 mph emaxx?

BTW, I've gotten my XXX-SG+ going over 60 mph with 6 cells. FDR was still 10:1 and tires were 2.625 inches. It could have gone faster, but I didn't want to put a pinion larger than 15 teeth. Too bad that motor and car is gone now... I wonder if it would be possible to go 70 or 80 on 6 cells.... for that matter, I wonder what the record for 6 cells is.

I think a 1/12 with a 1515 5 turn with 6 cells could probably hit 80 mph. You'd have to drive it on a mirror smooth surface though - something that just isn't available around my house. My TC4 has to be jacked up just so I can drive it in front of my house.

Now I've hijacked this thread again.

rcjmaxx 02.17.2005 09:58 PM

So where can I get this Garmin GPS,Ive asked around LHS and they dont know what Im talking about?

HotnCold 02.17.2005 10:05 PM

gps

You can find the hand held gps units at your local best buy, circuit city, outdoor store - or online - just search handheld gps units - I have the etrex vista handheld - works just fine...

Megazone23 02.18.2005 12:34 AM

You should be able to get one at any outdoor sporting goods store or online. You can also get them through Amazon.com

I have a Garmin eTrex. This one's great because it's fairly small, light, and inexpensive. Amazon has the eTrex for $87.13. [Insert disclaimer about not being associated with Amazon, this is for you information only, no endorsement, blah blah blah]
At Amazon.com

lipomax 02.18.2005 12:42 AM

Get the Garmin Gecko - smaller and easier to strap on to smaller vehicles like TCs and buggies. Works as well as my Etrex (got both).

rcjmaxx 02.18.2005 10:34 AM

Thanks a whole lot for the info guys.
