Well, forms and shapes are a matter of feeling; i would make a drawing and decide from there what radius to pick. (that's what i do when i am designing something from free hand) Or if you are going to have it machined by a router/mill keep the radius of the bit in mind. If you are interested, i can help you out drawing it, but i need more dimensions. It's easier to design a truck from shred than to measure excisting parts. It took me about 7 hours before i had all the dimensions of my savage. But from there it's like a walk thru the park, if everything falls in place and fits perfectly in the assembly, the sun is shining on your walk.. :p |
K, well i am still waiting for some more parts from Mike, like gmaxx skids and extended center cvd's. Then i can get the exact dimensions of the 'upper connecting plates' where the chassis brace connects to top of bulkheads; and the center cvd's to get a good length for center spur shaft...
Just a note, the motor mount/spur mount will reinforce the braces, and add rigidity laterally. I will also be using 4 screws to mount 7XL, the new 540C versions have two screw right close to each other, so i thought i would use both... You are so right, it's all about feeling, I see the 'forces' and 'stresses' in my mind and just imagine them traveling down the material. Math is useful, but limited. Unless anyone has the exact measurements, and angles of the screw centers from the chassis brace screws to the top bulkhead screw centers? by any chance? :032: Otherwise I have to wait for the skids, about end of the week... I know as a fact that you can't really see what it will look like, i will post a better pic of it soon. an actual drawing... |

What you need to do is this; draw the bulkheads of a maxx, from there you can calculate/see all the sizes you need. I do this with solid modeling software, and it's the best way to do so. |

yup, i did draw the bulkheads out... I need the measurements,angles(front skid) of the skids though, because my old ones are bent and broken. :032: CAD is going to have to wait, i get help from the machinist, also my neighbor. :027:
I would rather take the measurements on fresh virgin skids. you dig. Just to get more of an idea, what is the thickness of the aluminum on the upper brace of the Gmaxx chassis. To me it looks like 6mm thick, does anyone know the width (up and down thickness), it looks to me about 8mm? maybe 10mm? My chassis, i was thinking about shrinking the thickness though, with 8mm top, and 4mm triangles underneath, the thing would have a breaking strength of theoretically 10,000 lbs :005: :032: :026: :018: :007: hehe SO I think i can move down to 6mm top and 3mm reinforcing sections... check the pic in doc. |
