Emachineshop is even easier to learn, but not as powerful IMHO. The main problem with it is that your designs are restricted to maching by Emachineshop themselves because the software exports 2D only. Unless someone knows of a workaround? Maybe Mike has a way of converting the format...

Well, I didn't export the file from emachine shop its self because of that reason; I just sent him the whole file that I guess he opened in his emachine shop. I don't know, I'm not a computer wiz, did do something different than exporting directly from the program?...

Mike might have done a redraw in another app from looking at your design. An experienced CAD designer with prior experience of motor/diff mount design I guess could do that fairly quickly.

The Emachineshop tutorials are very good. Some of the skills you learn in it carry across to Alibre too. :)

The thing is that he told me he had no way to verify if the mounting holes to the chassis were correct because he did not have the truck I designed the mount for any more. So, he must have seen the 3D model or something to machine it, not just from memory. Also we really didn't discuss any of the measurements other that the motor screw spacing. But, you could be right, I really don't know. ..

Maybe someone else will chime in on this...

interesting, but i really wanna learn to work with what company's use.
wich is autocad mostly.

Serum 01.25.2007 12:39 PM

I am seeing more and more SW at companies i visit.

yes, emachine exports a DXF file in 2d.. it's a pita to get it right.

and with emachine you can't make constructions of several parts together.

Aragon 01.25.2007 03:46 PM

Yeh. Alibre can do full exports and does assemblies of upto 10 parts. If you buy it you get unlimited parts per assembly. Check out this assembly made in the free version:

Anyone know a good simple program for doing line drawings, maybe with all the measurements showing etc?

For drawing stuff like motor mounts... not a whole car even... and nothing fancy like the super cool 3D drawings in the posts above ^

Just something basic and easy to use.

in 2d.

jollyjumper 02.06.2007 06:38 AM

working on a stretch version today.
i can do what i need now.
draw plates.
for the center diff idea i want to use existing center driveshaft so the chassis needs to be 15mm longer.
