you are not gunna tell any difference between 2.5mm and 3mm plates, only with a scale or micrometer. If 2.5 bends, the 3 will also.

GorillaMaxx360 01.20.2007 10:33 AM

it is just an added assurance i guess that is the reason for the upgrade in thickness. I dont think it is ment to give you a would or difference.

Sylvester 01.20.2007 11:04 AM

Imo i think George might make it more than 3, probably 3.4mm or more.

Bomb-Proof 01.20.2007 01:54 PM

I think its fine at 3mm, just dont crash into everything and it will last forever. I would never expect someone to pay for my own dumb crashes. And when I crash, its usually quite bad....but luckily rare.

BP-Revo 01.20.2007 04:22 PM

Yea...3mm should be plenty. I'm only getting it as a preventative measure to the new X-Braces bending.

I didn't have a "dumb crash" - All my spills were extremely light. Just a few over-jumps there (not really a crash), and few underjumps here - landed on wheels, so it should have been fine. The only time the truck had an incident was just flipping from cornering too fast or something. There was no "slam into the wall at the end of the straight" incidents.

Also, no one has ever bent both X-Braces. I've actually only ever heard of two X-Braces being damaged, each time just one broke. The first was because of an overtightened screw that contorted it. The second was someone ran it with one of the lower screws only 1/2 threaded in, and it got caught on something and bent it like that.

I've never actually heard of someone damaging one from a crash.

Bomb-Proof 01.20.2007 05:28 PM

I have seen a couple bent in a crash, nothing a vise and some bending wouldnt fix though.

Thats why i was thinking it was a bad batch.

Bomb-Proof 01.20.2007 09:01 PM

You should never ever get a "bad batch" of metal. Its nearly impossible to buy metals without certification, and I doubt the do this. So either its a bad batch and you can simply sue the metal manufacture for false certification and easily win.....or you crashed the truck. Doesnt matter if you think it was a bad crash, it was obviously bad enough to bend parts. Parts bend when they are pushed beyond the limits and thats it. If you dont think it should have bent, then the part wasnt properly engineered for your application.

Well here is an image.

GorillaMaxx360 01.20.2007 09:24 PM

man what did you hit to do that.

Bomb-Proof 01.20.2007 10:04 PM

that was a serious hit, no little tumble did that one.

coolhandcountry 01.20.2007 10:13 PM

I was driving around and a tree jumped in front me. I was cruising along nicely.
I think 18 cells on it at time to. So alot of weight helped. As you can see
the straps didn't hold either. They didn't break though.

GorillaMaxx360 01.21.2007 12:22 AM

wow that tree must have jumped out at you pretty fast for you not to be able to dodge it.

coolhandcountry 01.21.2007 09:31 AM

Trees seem faster at times than others. :D
It was one of them last minute jump out in front to. :D

GorillaMaxx360 01.21.2007 02:11 PM

haha man those trees are fast up here they are quite a bit slower on the jumping in front of you part but i bet they will get better at it when i get a faster car(comming soon). hehe

boss 302 01.21.2007 07:40 PM

lol and once you get the dodging trees down good other things pop out more often cars, kids, and brick walls

Sylvester 01.21.2007 07:54 PM

Kids are the worst!

They cost you more than the truck! ;)

GorillaMaxx360 01.21.2007 08:02 PM

kids man if you hit one of those it is not like a tree where the tree wins and you carry your car back to your house to acess the damage, if you hit a kid you damage the kid, get nasty looks from the neighbors, damage your car, feel bad, and many more things i will take hitting a tree anyday over a kid.

Sylvester 01.21.2007 08:07 PM

Plus, possibly having to clean all that blood off your body/suspension! .. EW.

BP-Revo 01.21.2007 09:24 PM

And the millions of dollars the kid's parents win off you in court...ouch...

knotted 01.30.2007 08:29 AM

I e-mailed George about making a basher chassis and he replied "Please check back this March for details on our new G3 chassis". Anyone have any advance details? Any spies in the Gorillamaxx camp?

Dafni 01.30.2007 08:41 AM

The thickness of all plates will be increased (from 2.5mm to 3mm, or something, like that)
There will be a new motor mount design, attached to the gearbox (stock-style)
....

Don't know if it's true, though. It's what "I heard" :)

The "March" part is news to me!

coolhandcountry 01.30.2007 08:55 PM

Improvements sound good to me. I wonder if you will still be able to get the
lighter chassis as well.

Sylvester 01.30.2007 09:43 PM

I wonder how the chassis would be if he kept the measurments the same but made it out of 7075.. it would be heavier but pretty strong!

BP-Revo 01.30.2007 10:22 PM

It'd probably be REALLY strong. I wish he would do that...then I'd never have to worry...ever.
