zero, sorry, I'll send you my files when I get home tonight. I'm still playing w/ the design some, here's where I'm at now.

I don't have time to mess w/ it right now, but do you know if COSMOS will do thermal simulation?

zeropointbug 05.18.2007 04:44 PM

That's alright, you don't need to send them. I think the design I am at now is pretty good, I'm trying to keep in mind CNC work, keeping the actual bit/flute in mind. Keeping it relatively simple

I really, really like your design, but the top cover will add a lot more cost to it... :030:

BTW, what are you using to render your parts? Is it built into your CAD?

zeropointbug 05.18.2007 04:47 PM

What mount is that it is on?

A4DTM 05.18.2007 08:49 PM

haha np, sorry for the late reply. I'm not planning on getting a new case for my quark, as it's already 1/2 blown lol.. I'm just waiting for it to die, then I'll go Teken or CC. I just enjoy modeling, and I figure I can use stuff like this in a portfolio. I've designed alot of stuff that I'll never get made, simply because it'd be way to expensive for me. Here's a perfect example of a project that I really enjoyed designing, but would cost me an arm and both legs to get made: http://www.rc-monster.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1421

I'm using PhotoWorks to render, which is built into SolidWorks. I've got quite a few other renderers, like Maxwell Renderer, with a plugin for SW, so you still render in SW, but it uses the Maxwell engine. as well as Brazil R/S, V-Ray, and Electric Rain, but those, I need to export the part, and import it into 3DSMax, and depending on the renderer, I need to use different versions of 3DSMax.. so I havn't played with them yet. Maxwell works in SW, but my machine's not up to snuff for high quality renders, so it tends to crash SW on me..

The motor mount is from my XR8 project. Here's that thread: http://www.rc-monster.com/forum/showthread.php?t=3489

Cool, I like the chassis design.

Yeah, I guess you can't even get your Quark board out of your case right now! Too bad.

maxxxman: There will be no room for extra caps inside the case.

Maxxman 05.19.2007 04:03 PM

Don't worry about the extra room for any caps.
I just wondered and was also a little confused about the design.
Anyway if i wanted to add some it is still possible.

zeropointbug 05.19.2007 06:02 PM

Well I highly recommend adding more caps, and S&T does as well.

Mike replied back, he recommends simplifying it more... like no rounded edges, make edga chamfer instead. And the bottom where the fins meet the motor mounts had to be changed.

I'll update once refined some more.

Maxxman 05.20.2007 05:19 AM

it doesn't really matter much,

but i may add some as many people around here, including S&T as you mentioned as well as others, say that it is better to add some if you can.

the capaciters in the Quark are 330uf low esr caps aren't they.

Also in some ways having squared corners would be better than rounded as you would have more material, therefore theoretically a larger surface area and machining costs a bit lower.

zeropointbug 05.20.2007 01:58 PM

They are low-esr type yes. I have to go for edge chamfer instead of fillet. Chamfer is the edge taken off, usually at a 45' angle. Something that small, it would still look like a fillet anyways.

Here is the case with Edge Chamfer instead of Fillet. Also, the bottom is modified to make it easier machined. I asked Mike if it were a good idea to chop the bottom off of it and use his heatsink for bottom and mouting, to reduce costs of course.

snellemin 06.07.2007 09:27 PM

How much would this cost? Really nice case designs.

zeropointbug 06.07.2007 09:34 PM

Thanks. :dft009:
I have not got a price back yet for it, from Mike. Although I am not done designing it, and MIGHT make it flat bottom so it can be used with his Monster esc mount. We will see.

That's with the updated heat spreader and clamps. Notice the small slots for the top cover to slide into?
