coolhandcountry 07.08.2005 10:50 PM

I was running a little taller than stock. Running the 40 series dirt hawg. I have some light weight tires I may run. I have the standard diffs with aluminum diff cups robinson gears.

RC-Monster Mike 07.08.2005 10:53 PM

15/70 should still be alright. 14/70 would drop the speed a touch and increase the runtime a touch.

coolhandcountry 07.08.2005 10:54 PM

Thanks Mike. You have made me see alot of things i did wrong. I have to get me some smaller pinions or lose some serious weight.

RC-Monster Mike 07.09.2005 08:54 AM

Yeah, your truck is almost twice as heavy as my race truck!

coolhandcountry 07.09.2005 12:19 PM

The scale I used may not be totally accurate. It should be in the ball park though. I know if i switch tires and wheels i can loose some. The batts are heavy. They add some serious weight to truck. I don't race so I can't see expense of lipos.

RC-Monster Mike 07.09.2005 12:25 PM

Yes, your batteries and wheels/tires are a large contribution to the weight of your truck. As long as you have the power, the weight is OK. Less weight will maximize your runtime, though, as well as minimize the heat generated by your electronics.

coolhandcountry 07.09.2005 12:40 PM

How did you get your truck so light. Are you running alot of plastic or aluminum.

RC-Monster Mike 07.09.2005 12:58 PM

All aluminum! It is a matter of selecting the right parts, including wheels and tires. I have an all aluminum e-maxx weighing just under 9 pounds, as well as an all aluminum e-maxx weighing under 8 pounds RTR! I also use Lipos, which cuts down on battery weight significantly.

coolhandcountry 07.09.2005 01:28 PM

Was those your trucks you weighed on the other thread. 7.75 and 8.6 or something. That is really light. I am not sure what i am going to do. I have to find out if esc is still good and go from there. I have a set of sportmaxx tires on a set of 4o series rims. They reduce my tire weight by half or more. But I like the looks of the dirt hawgs. If I pack two 7 Xl on with two esc and 36 cells. you think I could go up in my gearing. Get may be 70mph or so.

RC-Monster Mike 07.09.2005 01:33 PM

yes, the trucks were mentioned in another thread. If you like your tires, then stick with them, just adjust the setup accordingly. two 7xl setups with 18 cells each would be absolutely INSANE! The truck may reach 70, if you could keep it moving straight long enough! These trucks are a bit tricky when they get over 40-50mph.
Perhaps you need some counseling!? :)
I am glad to know that I am not alone!

coolhandcountry 07.09.2005 01:47 PM

I had the truck geared with 22 pinion 66 spur with the sport traxx tires. It was fast with one motor. I was racing traffic on a 55 mph highway. I was gaining on a few. I wish I had away to check it. I blew one tire apart form to much speed. I love it when that happens though. Counseling is a maybe. But I am having some fun.

RC-Monster Mike 07.09.2005 02:40 PM

Counseling sounds like a definate. Perhaps we can do a group session and split the costs! I have been known to chase cars now and then as well! :)

coolhandcountry 07.09.2005 04:01 PM

The esc come out fine. I just made me a 14 tooth pinion. I going to try it with the 70 tooth spur and see what happens. My 7 xl don't sound right. I had to put it back together after serious endo. Knocked motor apart. Pinion gear off shaft. Broke a couple battery starps. I may need new one mike with heat sink. Let me know if you can get me a 9 xl and the cost.

RC-Monster Mike 07.09.2005 05:47 PM

I will look into the 9xl for you. I may be able to get the wanderer version.

coolhandcountry 07.09.2005 08:37 PM

What is the wanderer version? Is that like the maker of the motor.

MetalMan 07.09.2005 09:14 PM

That is just what BK calls them. They are Feigao motors though (supposedly given better bearings).

coolhandcountry 07.09.2005 09:29 PM

I still have problem. It almost sounds like my 7 xl has a miss in it. It you know what I mean. It is hard to explain. Runs warm to. Any suggestions.

RC-Monster Mike 07.09.2005 10:13 PM

My bet is that you scuffed a winding when the motor came apart in your crash. It could be a few things, really. I would be real careful running it without a brace at this point. Once the can pops, they tend to pop again much easier.

Serum 07.10.2005 04:51 AM

Must have missed this thread for a few posts.. it is growing fast...

Mike, are you chasing cars..? You really need some kind of therapy.. you are quit a sprinter!

Coolhand; how about 20 cells and an 8XL or a 9XL? if you use a 9918 or a 9920 controller, you can run it on 20 cells.. Getting an extra 200 watts, pusing it over the 60 mph!

Your truck sure is heavy!! What did you used? concrete or bricks? ;) how come it's so heavy?

coolhandcountry 07.10.2005 07:15 AM

Not sure why it is so heavy Serum. I wish i knew. I even ran some plastic thinking I was saving. I know my tires are heavy. I do have lighter set I can put on though. I may put them on and reweigh. I don't have a good scale. It gets me in the ball park.

coolhandcountry 07.10.2005 12:12 PM

Hey mike. THe winding you said you think i scuffed. It must have been on them because they are all twisted up in side. I don't think they supposed to look like a rainbow. You think it is junk.

coolhandcountry 07.10.2005 12:19 PM

If you every have anyone mike that knocked the end out of motor. I put a small dab of glue on it. It held up much better. Never come out until I knocked it out again.

RC-Monster Mike 07.10.2005 12:20 PM

Hard to say without seeing it.

coolhandcountry 07.10.2005 12:51 PM

It is not much doubt in my mind mike. They are not consistant. They have a bad bow in the middle. I has cracks in between the windings to. I think it is toast.

RC-Monster Mike 07.10.2005 12:59 PM

It is normal for the coating on the internal windings to seemingly be "cracked". If the coating is worn away or discolored, there is likely a problem, though.

coolhandcountry 07.10.2005 07:22 PM

The winding them selves are all messed up. The look like a snake cause of the curves. It is not the same through the whole motor. They are different form side to side. The timing can't be right cause the winds will engage at different times on different parts of the shaft. If you know what I mean.

Serum 07.11.2005 03:10 AM

Can you shoot a detailed photo?

This is what a bigmaxximum looks like;

coolhandcountry 07.11.2005 01:24 PM

sure can't serum. I have trashed it. It was mussed. Not a doubt in my mind. It looked like you took and twisted the winding in one spot.

Dafni 07.11.2005 04:06 PM

Hey, I completly missed this thread. Was a good read.
I can guess your 7XL on 22/66 was insane...I run mine on much lower gearing and still get insane speed.

Anyhow, here's how my dead 9L looked. Not the windings died, but the magnet split, as some might remember

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v313/duffnee/BL_3.jpg

RC-Monster Mike 07.11.2005 05:12 PM

thanks for the picture, Daf. The grey color on the windings is likely due to the rotor rubbing on them when it split.
Coolhandcountry - The motor has no timing. The controller does the timing on a sensorless system.

coolhandcountry 07.11.2005 06:09 PM

You see How the windings are in daf's motor that is what they look like only worse with out the grey. If the windings are not where they supposed to be. Then the Force on the rotor will be applied at wrong time. Thus throwing the timing out. If some of the winding starts to push the rotor and the rest has not come close. You know me means.

RC-Monster Mike 07.11.2005 06:55 PM

Do the windings move inside the can(can you spin them?)?

coolhandcountry 07.11.2005 06:58 PM

I not going to worry with it mike. I took rotor out. Pitched the rest. It was touch the rotor some. So it was wrong some where. I just buy a new one. Just have to figure out what i going to get this time.

RC-Monster Mike 07.11.2005 07:38 PM

I can get the 6xl, 7xl or 8xl. No 9xl at the moment.

coolhandcountry 07.11.2005 08:27 PM

Is that the fieago or what there mike? And what is the damge.(aka Price)

RC-Monster Mike 07.11.2005 08:35 PM

I have the Feigao 7xls in stock. I can get the wanderer versions of the above listed motors for around $100+/-.

coolhandcountry 07.11.2005 08:55 PM

I let you know something as soon as I know.

RC-Monster Mike 07.11.2005 08:58 PM

alrighty! Whenever you are ready.

coolhandcountry 07.14.2005 09:51 PM

I have a favor to ask. Do you have any specs on the 8 and 9 xl? Also what exactly is a wanderer version? You can email or pm me.

RC-Monster Mike 07.14.2005 09:58 PM

8xl - 83 amps, 2084 rpm/volt
9xl - 74 amps, 1853 rpm/volt

The wanderer version is made for BK Electronics with better bearings.
